New Dollhouse Clip

Entertainment Weekly has a new video clip from the February 13th premiere of Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse. In the clip, we see “the first time we see Echo (Eliza Dushku) wake up after having her memories wiped in the special memory-flushing chair” which “leads into a discussion between lab tech Topher (Fran Kranz) and Echo’s handler Boyd (Harry Lennix) about her last “date,” delving into just what being a doll/active means.” I’m still not excited for this show, as much as I would like to be. What do you guys think?

  • Not much I can gage from a two minute clip, but the concept isn't exactly groundbreaking. That said, as it's Joss, I'll give it a go.
  • Although, this clip isn't exactly exciting, I'm interested to see how this series turns out. I'm a fan of Buffy and Firefly, and I'm willing to give Whedon the benefit of the doubt here. I'll be on the couch for the series premier.

Can't we just have a Dr. Horrible's Sing-A-Long-Blog show rather than this?

I'm going to give Dollhouse a few viewings, but I'm definitely not too impressed with what I've seen so far.
  • I don't think dr. Horrible (and don't get me wrong, I LOVE it) would have done well on the air. Just because what makes it great is that Joss is allowed to do the angst that he does so well, and I don't think the average tv viewer would accept such a big death so soon. But maybe one day he will (hopefully) prove me wrong.
  • If it's Whedon, I'm there.
  • I dislike Eliza Dushku. She just annoys me.
  • never seen anything by whedon before but this looks very intriguing.
  • If there's one thing I've learned about Whedon's work, it's that they all somehow tend to grow on you. It may not seem all that great at first but eventually you fall in love with it..
  • That's his problem. If he misfires out of the block, as one could assume judging from this terrible clip, there isn't going to be "time to grow" when FOX yanks him off again. This premise sounded weak to begin with and this clip didn't dissuade anyone who thought the same also.
  • Why is Whedon wasting his time on this crap? Dushku has never been able to carry a successful project, so why would she be able to now? I personally think she is a mediocre actress at best, and I don't find her the least bit attractive. Whedon can be brilliant, but this project seems to be a roadblock preventing him from creating another Firefly caliber show.
  • Also don't really see a point to this clip. Dushku's biggest strengths have always been action and being a badass, which does does neither of in this clip.

Being a huge Buffy fan, I did not miss the chance to see Dollhouse screening that FOX held at Cannes MIPCOM last October. I'm not sure it was the pilot, for sure it did not look like this, and opening credits were missing.
The episode reminded me of Tru Calling in the mind-washing/time-warping sequences, maybe because Eliza Dushku was on-screen, and the episode story was quite weak. There were very few hints of a season-long or series-long storyline, and metaphors for a multiple-level interpretation, the very strong point of Buffy, were missing.
My overall impression was not good, but I will give the show a chance when it will be broadcast next year.
  • I didn't find the clip too exciting but I am interested in this show. Anything Whedon brings to Television I'll be there to watch.
  • I really don't think this show will do that good. It seems too serious about whatever it is they're trying to get across. Why would they wipe someones mind and make them think they had an excellent weekend that didn't even happen? I don't know, I guess I'm just not into this show that much.
