X2 and Superman Returns screenwriter Michael Dougherty is developing a werewolf dramedy for the Fox network. According to THR, “Bitches” is described as a “quirky fairy tale” about a quartet of female friends in New York City who just happen to also be werewolves. the project has received a penalty commitment from the network, and Pushing Daisies co-executive producers/writers Gretchen Berg and Aaron Harberts have been brought aboard the project.

My first thoughts are - can a non cable network (ala Fox) really air a television series titled “Bitches”? I understand Showtime airs “Penn and Teller’s Bullshit”, but that’s Showtime. Also, its beginning to seem clear that Hollywood is already looking to follow the vampire trend with werewolves. 2009 will also see Universal’s remake of The Wolfman and the Twilight sequel New Moon.

  • Sounds like another show aimed at the 'Charmed' fans/demographics. Throw in some seemingly strong feminist cast members (you go girls!), add a supernatural element of some kind couple with a sprinkling of repetitive plots and you have a winner that'll have the 12-16yr girls hanging on for dear life. For everybody else? We'll pass thank you...
  • er, I thought "Charmed" was alright... lol
  • Twilight 90210
  • ROFLMAO ... +1 to you, lol
  • ew. It's gonna be so fucking lame.

Why does everything have to take place in New York City? I'm not knocking my homies in the east or nothin', but it's like just adding New York City to your synopsis all of a sudden gives it that "trendy, edgy, urban, modern twist"

I'd love to see a werewolf show like this take place in Topeka, Kansas.
  • I think it should take place in Death Valley, CA... or the Sahara ... a full-coated werewolf complaining a la Seinfeld about the desert heat? Good times.

This just sounds awful. Who would think that people would want to watch this?
  • I read that they become Wherewolves when they have their periods. True. I didnt make it up.
  • Wow, sounds boring...who wants to watch a show on hairy women? yuck!
  • This looks very dumb to me. I'm sorry but I don't see this lasting more than a few episodes. It might have a good writer attached to it but the title and the network both spell doom for this project.
  • J.D.
They probably spend half of each episode waxing and shaving.
  • I guess that would be a lot different. I wouldn't mind seeing a half woman half werewolf all waxed up and shaving places I've didn't know ever needed shaving.
  • To be fair, Dougherty did the (by all accounts) awesome "Trick 'r Treat", so methinks he could possibly make this work. I think the shock value title may kill it before it has a chance though.
  • Oh I don't doubt the guys talent to write something good but like I said, the network and the title cant simply ruin any great show. I do agree with you about the shock value ruining this show before it ever gets a chance.
  • I give it half a series, max. That's even if the pilot flies.
  • BITCHES.

What? I'm just talking about a TV show.

this and HBO's Hung starring Thomas Jane just sound ridiculous
  • Wow. They're really missing the mark with this one. I don't think the "Sex and the City"/"The Women" crowd is going to show up for a werewolf show.

How awesome would it be if they did a straight sit-com that starred werewolves? Like a "That's My Bush" style parody kind of thing?

Well seeing as TrueBlood managed to pull off a decent first season there is certainly potential.
  • It would be cool if someone made a show called Werewolf Barmitzvah starring Tracy Jordan.

I guess you have to watch 30 Rock to get that one.

SPOOKY, SCARY! BOYS BECOMING MEN, MEN BECOMING WOLVES!
  • Well I'm glad someone knows great comedy.
  • I'm interested. Hope it turns out very good.

Why o' why is nobody trying to use the World of Darkness as a place to tell a story? It's such a great and rich sourcematerial so why is nobody interested to bring it to a screen? I love Werewolfs but everytime it's just about feeding on humans ... boring.
  • Love that Howling screen grab!
