Green Lantern Likely Next For Warner Bros

So with a sequel to The Dark Knight taking a backseat until Christopher Nolan can come up with the inspiration, what can we expect from Warner Bros next?

Will Superman return? Warner Bros President Alan Horn tells Collider that while they are “very anxious to bring Superman back” it will probably happen in “the next couple of years.” Not a confident answer if you ask me.

So what then?

“I think Green Lantern is probably the best guess but I can’t promise it at this moment,” Horn said, adding that it’s “On the runway. Hasn’t taken off yet, but we’re close.”

Meanwhile, The Sydney Morning Herald reports that the filmmakers have already started scouting locations and interviewing key crew members in Sydney Australia’s NSW Fox Studios. Apparently the studio is in a bidding war with Victoria, British Columbia for the project, and a decision has yet to be made by Warner Bros. But it certainly is sounding like the greenlight is quickly approaching. Greg Berlanti is still attached to direct.

  • Can't wait for this. This is only movie I can think of that isn't even in production yet but that I'm really excited about.
  • Sounds like they are trying to keep the hype up for this.
  • Batman works because it can be dark and gloomy. Spiderman works because he's a spider, man! And that just rocks!! Superman, well - he can fly!! And the cape and the whole underwear on the outside colour scheme works. Green Lantern? What the f*ck? I don't see too many young lads begging to go see this nerd in tights at the cinema... might be a project more for the fanboys, and they alone won't turn in enough profit.
  • I've never really liked the Green Lantern...
  • read everything Geoff Johns writes its great comics
  • Dr. Doc
they should definately cast Jake Gylenhall as Hal Jordan

    this is gonna be awseome
  • latinoreview said the first draft of this was pretty good and thats saying something. lets hope its sticks like that
  • filmkid
im hoping this movie will be good we need DC/ Warner Bros to step up with there comicbook characters its not all about batman and superman

we need a green lantern, green arrow, wonder woman, the flash, set your game up WB all i think the JLA should not be done for along while
  • TheMarquis
Good news. DC needs to step up their output-- i'm sick of marvel dominating the scene (TDK aside)
  • /filmluvshaljrdn
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! this is the superhero flick i'm most excited about. this could be so so amazing. Latino Review ain't the only one's who have reviewed the script, IESB and batmanonfilm both said it's awesome.
  • /filmluvstights
in regards to the next Superman, from what i've read from interviews like the head Legendary studios guy, they're taking their time. i mean seriously peter, you really think they won't make another Superman film. i think they said not till 2012.
  • Do it.
  • That would be cool. I really would love to see a crossover in a DC movie. According to Nolan, that won't happen in one of his films. He said that if superheros existed in his universe, Bruce Wayne would have no reason to become Batman, he would hope Superman would save the day all the time, which he does anyway.
  • Wonder whos gonna play the green one...
  • they were talking to Ryan Gosling to play Hal Jordan and if that is the case that would be a great casting choice IMO
  • god im so pumped for this. Green Lantern could make such an epic movie.
  • The script has Hal Jordon in it. It's very good. *looks at avatar.*
  • Not Me
    >But it certainly is sounding like the greenlight is quickly approaching

    Greenlight. Heh. Unintentional pun.
  • I hope they bring back his weakness to the color yellow a la Superfriends.

A Green Lantern (Hal Jordon) movie has the potential to easily best any Super-Hero movie made to date. Yes, that's right. I said it and I do also mean Dark Knight as well.

Reasoning: Think about a Superhero with a Power Ring that is only limited by his Will Power and Imagination. Sound good so far? Also think about a hero who has a built in sheild provided by said power ring, can travel the cosmos and is an intergalactic piece keeper! Yep, Batman doesnt sound so interesting now does he?

The special effects alone would make any fan boy drool, I have been awaiting a Green Lantern movie since I was a kid.
  • Is Jordan not Jordon.

The reasons you numbered are not a really good base to claim that this is going to be a great film. The reason movies are good or bad is because of the story not the special effects. The special effects are made to aid the story, not the other way around. And this is coming from a 3D artist, I get paid to do special effects, still I admit and realized that they are not what make a good movie. Superman Return and Spiderman 3 had great CG special effects, still that did not make them good movies. People want to see movies that they can relate to. At least most moviegoers.

That being said, I want to clarify that I'm not saying that the GL movie is going to be better or worse than TDK, but that is a really hard movie to beat. You'll will have to have a great director and a great cast to be able to pull that off. I've read that the script is really good, but I don't really know. I really hope it is, Hal deserves it!
  • Now it's a matter of Hal Jordan or John Stuart?
  • Clint Barton
I heard that it is indeed Hal Jordan. Which is who it should be.
  • Kriss Kross
actually it's gonna be john stewart and common(the rapper)would probaly portray him
  • I actually heard it was Hal Too.
  • baconbits
from what i've read about the script, It is Hal. i don't think John shows up. but there's Guy Gardner and Clark Kent cameos in it. like the ring passes them over looking for Hal. I think that'd be sweet to see Routh sitting as his desk as a green light flies by the window.
  • Clint Barton
This is one film I'm looking forward to in the next few years...
  • In brightest day, in blackest night,
no evil shall escape my sight!
Let those who worship evil's might,
beware my power.. Green Lantern's light!

I can only imagine how awesome that would be to hear on the big screen, assuming of course it isn't ruined by having it on every single trailer.
  • ceej
Think they'll change it to "darkest" night?
  • jason B
i liked that rumor of ryan gossling as hal jordan. i really liked it. gossling throwing his hat into the comic film ring would continue the trend of taking a serious approach to our beloved tight wearing heroes.

i haven't been a fan of this series until this past 08' summer, the writing in the comics was some of the best out there. but anyways, you put gossling in it & i'm there.
  • I'm glad someone else liked the rumour that Gossling might be Hal Jordan. I remember a lot of ppl bitching back when it was announced lol.

Also, if you like what happening in Green Lantern, I suggest you check out some of the other books that were written by Geoff Johns like Action Comics or Final Crisis: Rogues Revenge. :)
  • Simon
    Gosling has already passed apparently.
  • That sucks. I thought he'd be really good.

My next favorite choice was Nathan Fillion. I think he'd be pretty good as Hal Jordan.
  • cheese
i don't want Fillion. he's a bit old and not too marketable. i really dug Gosling. i hope they can get him.
  • This is pretty good news. I was wondering what they planned on doing with some of their other talent.

I was hoping the Green Arrow Supermax script by David Goyer would have gotten the green light. It sounded really good.
  • Oh yeah, it's also nice to hear that the President of Warner Bros. has cleared all the dumb rumors about The Dark Knight sequel.
  • The Victoria mentioned in the article isn't actually British Columbia, but another state in Australia to which Melbourne is the capital. While NSW have their Superman Returns and Wolverine, we in Victoria have our Ghost Rider and Charlott's Web...
So here's hoping we actually get a good film like Green Lantern made here, and not NSW!
  • Byegood
It will turn out like this.

The whole problem with DC Comics is they have never been willing to truly support any other comic characters other than there big three being Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. Each of these characters have had tv series, movies and overall devotion from DC. Had Hal Jordon received the same commitment from DC that they have given Supes, and the Bat I wouldn't even need to bring this up. The Hal Jordon storyline is easily one of the most compelling in the entire comic book world, we just havent had him shoved down our throats for the last 40 years or more.

This will be a refreshing change having a Super Hero movie which is not the big three I spoke of, this is also another reason why I think it could eclipse all others films. To be honest, who really wants to see another Superman Lex Luthor movie? That is exactly where Bryan Singer messed up, what a dufus he was!

I could go on and on but will end it here.
  • Berlin Calling
I'm not too hopeful. DC obviously can't make a decent super-hero movie without Batman in it. And is GL compelling enough for a big-budget flick? And Ryan Gosling? Really? I thought Hal Jordan was a heroic top gun test pilot, not a New York hipster douchebag-looking guy. I got more excited for that fake Flash teaser a while back.
  • If the script is as good as the comics then this movie is going to be awesome. We haven't had a good sci-fi superhero movie yet.
  • WAAAAAY too many superhero movies. CHANGE IT THE HELL UP!
