Will Tom Cruise Return as Les Grossman?

One of my favorite parts of Tropic Thunder was Tom Cruise as Hollywood Mogul Les Grossman. Cruise even earned a Golden Globe nomination for his comedic performance - who woulda thought? I would love to see a Tropic Thunder spin-off that takes place in the Hollywood world which would bring us more of Grossman’s antics. Cruise doesn’t say never, telling E! that “there could be more to do with that guy” before revealing that he has started to develop some short films starring the character with Thunder director/star Ben Stiller.

“I’ve talked about doing different videos with the character,” Cruise said. “I’ve started working with Ben [Stiller] on it, and we’ve kind of talked about different things to do. We were gonna do some in our free time, but we haven’t found the free time…yet.”

I don’t know about you, but I would love to see more than just a series of online viral music videos.

I wanna see Cruise in a Tarantino movie! (2)

He could do for him what he's done to John Travolta's career in Pulp Fiction: Ressurect it.
  • This might help out his career,
  • This is awesome news. Someone get the man a diet coke.
  • FreedomisPopular
I think it might be funny, like a Jay and Silent Bob recurrence in Stiller films... but more then likely they'll overuse him to the point of nausea.
    Still, he was freaking hillarious.
  • The Grossman character was great but it isn't a main character. It can't be anything other than a bit character in a movie. If we saw another Tropic Thunder-esque movie (same concept just no Ben Stiller or Jack Black acting), I would definitely welcome both Cruise and McConaughey (this was the first time I ever liked him too) back reprising their characters. Or even viral videos featuring one or both of those. The Topic Thunder "Let's Make a Viral Video" viral video is classic.

What's up, Tuggernuts? Ha ha, McConaughey was great!

Im sorry i've heard these TT posts before but jesus did the movie suck, few funny things in the opening but an hour into it i was just hopeing for it to end as soon as possable. I've spent alot of time on /film keeping my love for silver screen news up to date. Its a great website and i believe homeboys got a great taste in the picture world. But hott damn this movie blew. Cheap laughs more then the last half of it and if thats what im looking for im gonna sit at home and put on afv not go out and drop nine bucks for fucks sake.

and how the hell does Tom Cruise get a Golden Globe nomination for this crap?!?!
people should be throwing me nominations if its that simple, jesus.
  • I made some "No More Frequent Flyer Bitch Miles For My Boy!" t-shirts a while back, if anyone's interested :D

whats funny guys im watch Tropic Thunder right now as we speak Robert Downey Jr. and Tom Cruise made that film they should have a spin-off of Les Grossman and Kirk Lazarus lmao

my working title for the spin-off lol

    - Chronicles of Les Grossman
    - Tropic Thunder: The Kirk Lazarus Story
  • Brian Rodden
Robert Downey, Jr. was so much better...never go full retard...
  • danno
"I wanna see Cruise in a Tarantino movie"

I also want to see T.C in a Q.T film.
  • Jerry
I thought he was the funniest in the movie!!!!!! Especially the dancing.
  • John
Yell enough profanities and you are funny? Damn I should try that sometime....
  • I want you to take a step back... and literally FUCK YOUR OWN FACE.
  • I want you to take a step back... and literally F**K YOUR OWN FACE.
  • Good one, Adam!
  • I WILL F**K YOU UP!
  • Benjamin Wright
You are all FAR to easily impressed. This was very clearly TRYING to play against type rather than successfully accomplishing it. The dance scenes were painful, and coupled with the lackluster ending Tropic Thunder went from being what could have been a great film to a mediocre one.
  • JWS
talk about a buzz kill bro
  • Why do you guys bother censoring yourselves like that. I laugh when I see people take time to type out the asterisk for "F**K." I mean, for starters, it doesn't get you out of the morally questionable act of swearing. You're still swearing; we know what those hidden letters are. And secondly, it's retarded. We're all grown ups and should be afraid of digital representations of fucking letters on the shitty internet.
  • phillipemoy'es
i went ahead and dropped the f bomb no astericks needed. so go fuck yourself pal.
  • Cruises scenes were some of the best in that film, hilarious lines.. I would LOVE more.. Playa...
  • Am I the only one who didn't think Cruise was that funny? It was nice to see him do something different for sure, but for me it felt a little bit desperate... I wouldn't put his performance in the same league as Downey Jnr in Tropic Thunder, and he is up against Heath Ledger in the same category for the Globes?
  • I hear you. Although I though Cruise was funny, he was certainly not on par with Downey and not even close to Leger. It was a nice change of pace for him, and I enjoyed seeing him make a fool out of himself skewering Hollywood execs. Has Cruise come back from the dead? Not yet.
  • Thrillhouse77
I thought he was funny, but the scenes were edited poorly. There was too much down time in between the stuff that Grossman said. It seemed like there was a lot of awkward pausing to me...I don't know, maybe I need to see it again. I kind of wish his scenes were even more relentless.
  • Andy
I could not agree with you more.

They were completely cringe-inducing to me. The first bits of it were funny, but it ran on like a 'Family Guy' joke that's run out of steam but they keep pushing it. And I will never get why an old guy dancing around to a rap song is funny.

It seems like it's because it was Tom Cruise doing something you don't see him do, it tickled people.

I cracked up when Matthew McConaughey said to Ben Stiller about his career... 'It's like pistol-whipping a blind kid'
  • greycolumbus
I don't think desperate is the right word since A LOT of people did not realize the character was Tom Cruise and also because of the secrecy surrounding his role. I get what you're saying though.
  • I wanna see Cruise in a Tarantino movie!
  • greycolumbus
I just hope it doesn't get played out.
  • Yeah that's wonderful. Seriously the guy got more then enough screentime, and some would argue too much. I wouldn't want to see more at least not anymore time on the screen then he got on this film. It's a funny character but an entire film on him? Fuck that.
  • bret
His character was basically Ari Gold in 2016, But it was hilarious. Bring on Les Grossman short films!
  • jason B
anything other than some viral videos with this character, has - "absolutely terrible/sell out/milked to death/not funny anymore" - very plainly written all over it.

i'm always shocked that people don't see how obviously bad things can (and do) get, when something that was cool for a moment, attempts to extend its 15 minutes. funny commercials are notorious for making this mistake.

in fact, by the time cruise started the very played out "uncool white guy dances to hip hop music" bit, it was time to call curtains on les anyway.
  • Alongside Downey Jr, Cruise was the only thing worth watching in TT.

But do I want more Grossman? No.. Not really, the character has played its part. To continue with him and create his own story arcs will only destroy the magic, and cannot possible be as funny.
He is suitable for the fifteen minutes of fame he was given.
  • edog
Worst idea of the day. The joke was funny the first time in the movie. Then they rub your face in it. Ben Stiller doesn't understand that sometimes, less is more.
  • "Take a big step back and literally FUCK YOUR OWN FACE."

    Gets me every time.
  • joseph
    1. the movie sucked
    2. the grossman character was not a bit funny
  • I second the Ari Gold comment. The idea of online virals with Cruise is a great idea. Tropic Thunder was definitely lackluster, but the funny parts (mostly Downey and Cruise...oh, and the scene with the kid stabbing Stiller on the bridge) were really funny. I say an Ari Gold vs. Les Grossman Profanity-Off would rule.
  • there should be no sequel. Tropic Thunder was a great movie and it should be left alone as it is.
  • Ida
I thought Tom Cruise ruined the movie. Everyone else was excellent in their roles, but adding Tom to the mix was "retarded" Never go "full retard" remember? He is just not funny, plain and simple. None of his annoying scenes made me laugh. His career is over, why can't he just face it and move on with his millions of dollars.
  • I want you to take a step back and literally FUCK YOUR OWN FACE!!! And If you don't shut up, I WILL RAIN DOWN ON YOU IN A GODLY FUCKING FIRESTORM!YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE TO GO TO THE FUCKING UNITED NATIONS TO GET A FUCKING BINDING RESOLUTION TO STOP ME FROM FUCKING DESTROYING YOU. I AM TALKING SCORCHED EARTH MOTHER FUCKER!!! I WILL MASSACRE YOU!!! I WILL FUCCKKK YOOUU UUPPPP!!!
