Troy Duffy Talks Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day

Boondock Saints director Troy Duffy held a live videocast answering fan and website questions yesterday about Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day, which just wrapped production. We were asked to participate, but were too late to the game. Maybe we can get Troy on the /Filmcast Afterdark and get to the bottom of “Overnight”. Thanks to my friends at Geeks of Doom, I have the video embedded below.

  • "did you really just ask that Iheartmovies.com?" hahaha hilarious.

Seriously though, I've never watched Overnight, but from this clip it seems like he has learned from his errors, and that the 10 years of not making films hasn't made him bitter and he's just eager to make more movies.

I like how he strives to keep the fans informed of the process as well.
  • The title is awful. It's like Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle.
  • I hate the title and love it at the same time.
  • Auto-start videos really screw with my Google Reader. That said, thanks for sharing. I've been waiting for this sequel for years and am glad to hear info coming straight from the horse's mouth. But yeah, if there's a way we can not get these vids to start playing automatically, that would be great.
  • P.S. very surprised that this post has not resulted in the usual "boondock saints sucks, Duffy is an asshole" extravaganza that usually happens whenever there is a post on this movie or this director

lol is this guy a fucking moron?
  • who? Troy Duffy? I think he comes off pretty well in this clip. Explain what you mean

one question about what Marvel comics movie Troy Duffy would direct - I definitely think he should have directed Punisher - it would have been fantastic
  • the title hurts my insides.
  • wow that was really quick. and now if we could only get it out in theaters right away.

it seems like this move shouldnt have been made, kind of like the first one should have just been a stand alone movie but i guess ill have to wait and see what this one has to offer.
  • Talked to Troy Duffy on the phone about three or four years ago about this movie. I was a film student at the University of Idaho and my brother was the head baseball coach at Occidental College in Los Angeles. My brother, knowing my fondness for The Boondock Saints, called me on Saint Patty's day of all days from a bar in L.A. and told me he was going to put Troy Duffy on the line. Of course I thought my brother was messing with me so when the guy got on the phone I grilled him about the movie, wanting to see if this really was indeed the director. Well after about twenty seconds I realized it really was him and we talked about the first Boondock movie and that he was getting ready to shoot the second one with "reedus and del rocco". I'm not sure how Del Rocco fits into the second one since he is killed in #1 but I just figured flashbacks or a prequel or something. He then asked me where I was and that I should come to Toronto and be an extra in the film. I was pretty drunk in our conversation and all I can really remember saying about five times was "mr. Duffy I really liked your film a lot." Anyway after seeing that doc made about him after our conversation I don't think he needs to be reassured about how awesome his film is. I can say though talking to Troy randomly from Idaho on St. Patty's day in 2004 he came across as a humble, respectful, down to earth guy as you'd like to meet. It definently was a really cool thing for me to talk to him about his movie. I'm happy for him that he finally got #2 made.

I would love the chance to sit with the man and drink a beer! Just to talk and get to know him and his thoughts and/or views on our world.
I fell in love with the first movie, though I just recently seen it. (Due to incarceration for my beliefs in justice, or the lack of)
When I was only 17 my older brother and I were in a similar situation in real life, we are both 100% Irish as well. So needless to say I and my family as well as many friends all really connect with the "story". I'm beyond excited to know there is another story or "movie" coming out to continue it all. It was left, after all, with the inherent possibility of another at the end of the first. I can't wait too see the next one!

All who are ragging on this man and either Saints movie are probably on crack. I've watched the original about 40 times since this semester of school started because it's great. I believe the second movie will be at least as good as the first. I will be looking forward to seeing equal or greater things in the theater when All Saints Day comes out. In nomine patrie, et fili, et spiritu sancti...then BANG to everyone hating on this movie!

"You'll just have to watch and find out."

    That's a yes.

Duffy doesn't suck, but I have met him, he blows ;)
  • I just saw Overnight and I can only pray the guy has changes some. Talk about ruining a career and burning every bridge possible. I saw BDS back in the day and didnt think too much of it, but Overnight was an eye-opener. This guy was a complete a*Hole. I hope for his sake, he has learned from his experiences.
