I Love You Phillip Morris Movie Trailer

TrailersLand has posted an extended French promotional trailer for the upcoming Jim Carrey / Ewan McGregor comedy I Love You Phillip Morris. It was just announced that the film will premiere at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival. As far as I know, the movie doesn’t yet have a U.S. distributor. The movie is adapted from Steve McVicker’s 2003 novel, and based on a true story. Carrey plays Russell, a criminal who falls in love with his cell mate, Phillip Morris (McGregor). After Morris’ release from prison, Russell attempts a variety of bizarre prison escapes in hopes of reuniting with the love of his life. The movie was apparently pitched as “Catch Me if You Can meets Brokeback Mountain“. The screenplay was written by the team who did Bad Santa. Watch the trailer embedded below thanks to TrailerAddict. • Could go either way, no pun intended.
  • there is nothing wrong with the 'i used to be good now im gay' idea. the reason is because even though its wrong to color it in such black and, it is the way society sees it. if you want your movie to appeal to the masses, you have to speak their language.
  • my girlfriend wants to see this, and im a fan of heroin addicted obi wan mcgregor, so i think i will give it a chance. if course i will have to stand up the whole time to assert my sexuality by proving that im not getting a boner to anyone who might be there.
  • Kyle
Wow, that looks really good, i hope they can pull it off!

It's not what I was expecting which is a good thing..I thought it was going to be another Chuck & Larry....but it's way better....nice to see Jim finally start to make decent movies again
  • That looks pretty good, although the trailer seems to be teetering on the edge of giving too much away.
With films like "The Yes Man" (or whatever its called) looking a little dull, it's good to see Jim Carrey in something creative again.
  • Mr Truman
    Um.. what?
  • I liked bad santa and its crude humor, and this is looking pretty good. And I like the team up of carrey and mcgregor. Hope it turns out good.
  • Do the French make a habit of giving away the entire plot of a movie in their trailers? :-D
  • That was weird. Is it a comedy, a drama, a dramady, something else? Hopefully we get a more clear cut trailer over here because if the point of this went over my head it'll likely go over most people's. Most of all this did nothing to make me care or be interested in it. The humor seems like it'll be good but that was 15 sec out of 3 1/2 minutes.

    The good ... Ewan M.
    The blah ... Jim C.
The bad ... Are you kidding me? Firstly, there is enough misunderstanding about gay in this world and to have the premise of the story be "I used to be good. I go to church. ... and then I had an accident and I am gay?!?" I understand part of the joke here but most people will take it literally and that is bad.

Dude I could not follow the first half of that trailer at all. And yet I still feel like I've seen the entire movie, so I can skip it.

And why was it so damn dark?
  • I can see the direction the film is going in, but that was a very badly done trailer, too long for starters and it wasn't easy to follow. I hope they release a much better edited one.
  • Eric R.
    Yea......now that I've seen the trailer....now I'm worried.
  • im actually want to see this, i really love catch me if you can( not brokeback mountain) so im excited for a jim carrey comeback.
  • Movie looks good, trailer sucks
  • Looks cute. But I feel like I just watched half the movie. Why oh why is Ewan's hair so horrid!?
  • it's hilarious!
  • It appears from the way to long and giving away to much info trailer that Jim Carrey doesn't have to many 'I'm overacting' moments so I'm glad to see that. Jim Carrey is a fantastic actor when he isn't forced to act like a complete assclown. The setup seems great and it looks well put together so I'm sure it'll make bank.

I love the fact that this film about gays is premiering in bassackwards mormon Utah btw.

Jesus Christ, either the french can't cut a trailer

or this film is lost in translation
  • kfizz
Im sorry to say this but the first half of the trailer is great but the part when he goes to jail just seem like one bad gay joke or something. But it gets better with him try to get out of jail to see him. It could be that the jail part of trailer was taken out of context.
  • Stephanie
In the book, Stephen is still a Christian. He states his faith is very important to him, he just doesn't agree with his church's view on homosexuality. He doesn't give up his religion. In fact, he finds a church that's very accepting of gays. Hopefully that's in the film too.
  • This might have to wait for Netflix.
  • Stephanie
Square, trust me, you ain't seen nothin yet!
  • Stephanie
Horrid, are you kidding? It looks hot. Ewan looks adorable, as always. What are you smoking?
  • WTF was that all about? Seriously, I don't know what to make of that. The first half looked like a standard Jim Carrey movie, with his usual antics and stuff. Then it's a bizarre dramedy that doesn't seem to go anywhere.
  • D..
The Carrey-McGregor match-up feels strange to me. I'd prefer to see some other actor as Philip Morris, but that's just me.
  • evanz
It's more like The Birdcage meets Prison Break. Snooze alert.
  • Guest
It was rather long - is this normal for French trailers? Does the film have a distributor there?

Nevertheless, its audacious strangeness is more than welcome.
  • NOOOO! It says "invalid video ID"! I need to see this trailer!
  • Brian
Another queer movie? Ugh *throws to trash bin*
  • joe lask
dude i dont know what any of u guys are talking about yes man was f#$%in halirous
  • Gregory from Jamaica
It's novel, at least to me, the Jim Carey and gay association. I can't find enough negative and curse words for this abomination referred to as a movie. To make it more appealing/palatable the writer(s) have laced this defecation with humour. No more Jim Carey for me.
