Flashback: John Lasseter on Charlie Rose

The other day when I posted Charlie Rose’s interview with the cast and crew of Milk, I commented on how much I loved long form interviews. /Film reader Falcon D sent over a few clips of animation director turned Walt Disney Animation Studios Chief creative officer John Lasseter on the show over the years. Anyone who is a fan of Animation, Disney, or more specifically Pixar will probably be interested in checking these out. First up is an October 1996 discussion with a much younger looking Lasseter joined by a much healthier looking Steve Jobs.

After the jump is a June 2006 interview with Lasseter, who is interviewed by guest host Peter Travers.

  • Lasseter was a genius than and a genius now.

I found Steve Job's diction choice funny and very revealing into his mindset when he described the video-like storyboards Lassetter was talking about as the "beta test" of the film! You could see that computer oriented quality come through : )

To me, John Lasseter's three reasons for working at Pixar were also had a lot of resonance. It's easy to start understanding the quality behind the films when you know that's the working environment they have been striving for.
  • Great interviews! Lasseter is a huge inspiration to me and its very cool to see how he's remained grounded and passionate even after all of his success. I love the fact that he keeps driving the point home that Pixar are all about story in the first video.

Also, I don't know anything about this TV show, but Charlie Rose kind of seems....well...like a dick in that first video. Is that what he's always like?
  • anyone who keeps saying CARS sucks should watch lasseter's enthusiasm for that movie. plus, peter travers is such a better host than charlie rose. sorry, chuck!
