Why Does The New Street Fighter Movie Look Like Smallville?

/Film reader Christopher M sent over five new production photos from Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li starring Kristin Kreuk. It could just be the many hours I’ve wasted on Smallville talking, but does this film look like a bad WB/CW television show or what?

  • When I first saw them I was kind of hoping they were just production stills... if that's not the case then I have even less reason to see this movie (I wasn't really excited to see it in the first place and Kristen Kreuk may be hot, but she's also damn annoying and one of the many reasons I stopped watching Smallville).

    I'll wait for a trailer to attempt to get my hopes up, but until then, I've no plans to see this movie and if ever I do I'll have low expectations.

  • I couldn't bring myself to watch this, even if Kristin Kreuk is in it. Like Demetri Martin's graph, "at a certain point, I don't care how attractive you are, I don't want to hear about your cat." In this case, your crappy movie based on a video game.

  • I've opposed this movie since it was announce, and even more when Kreuk was hired. She is pretty, but she seriously needs some acting classes. Another instalment to destroy any possibility of actually making a descent SF movie.

    She brings nothing to the table in terms of depth of performance and likeability. I was estatic when she left the show and now she's doing shitty kung fu flicks?

    Thank god I have the god given ability to avoid pap like this.

    I have to disagree, I think Kruek was put in the unfortunate position of having to work with a character that the writers did nothing to develop with. She's given good preformances and at least tries with certain episodes when the writers make things intresting. She was great in th comeback episode and I think she put a good effort in the movie Partition despite a poor melodramatic script, I like that she committed to the muslim role.
    A movie like this wont do, but I think you give her a chance and we have seen so called terrible actors have great performance with the right roles. Even in the likes of Marlon Wayans have proven that.

    Like I said she has had good preformances here and there, I wouldnt use Smallville as a barometer for anyone's ability with the poor writing and character development.

    to me it looks abit better then the new Dragonball movie thats coming but remember this is FOX they dont know how to make good Games into movie right but lets see the trailer when it comes out but its strange there is not alot of promotion on this film cause Dragonball movie has a better promotion then this movie we keep on getting HQ pics of Goku and the rest of the cast plus a leaked trailer but no leaked trailer for this movie at all.

    and i thought cause this movie coming out February 27, 2009 there would be a trailer by now.

    Yeah those pics look awful, the movie will be awful, but I don't care, Kristin Kreuk is incredibly beautiful and I'll go see it.
  • I don't care how bad this movie is.. the more exposure Kristin Kreuk gets, the better. She is a fffffffoooooooooooooxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.

  • I thought the Van Damme one was so bad it was good, or at least passable to watch and rip to shreds for a laugh. This one looks just awful, but maybe like stuff out of the 80s, we'll look back and laugh.

    Well of course it is. To be fair though this isnt some major big studio adaptation. Hence why we havent seen a trailer despite it coming out in less than 2 months time. It's merely a tie in for the relaunch of the new Street Fighter game coming out at the same time.
    I love Kristin Kreuk but she was miscast in this (or given the hilarity of it maybe not), so I may download this or get it as a rental.
  • It's gonna be like D.O.A., but with, ya know... One attractive girl instead of five. And it's ya know... Fucking with a property that people actually care about.

    Chun-Li might be the comicon cosplay girl that I most wanna sleep with, but she's probably the last Street Fighter character I'd like to see a movie focus on. I mean, really... You could put out Dhalsim's Incendiary Pilates Routine and I'd be more interested, plotwise.

  • Yeah, that's all well and good, but I avoid her movies based on the fact that everytime I see her, I am informed of her skills in Smallville and her inability to take a character that started out annoying and continued to denegrate into a soap opera, stomach churning idiot who should have been killed off years ago and do anything creative or interesting with.

    A great line was used in a film once that describes her well for me 'Just because you are a character, doesn't mean you have character'

  • Well, in one paragraph you call me an idiot, ignorant and a jerk...wow, you've got a bee in your bonnet dude and sorry that disagreeing with another persons point of view made you react so vehemently.

    I agree, Smallville aint shakespeare, but blaming the scripts for every flaw in her performances.

    I watched Kruek give one good performance so far - Snow White. She did have a little more to do, and hopefully if the part demands it, she might be able to show that she has range.

    Next time though mate, keep it in your pants...I'm not trying to make anyone feel bad, so why did you?

    I agree with prophecy_projectz. Kreuck was very talented. It was the scripts that were shit. You would have to be an idiot not to recognize that. I could tell Kreuk always gave her best, even when the scenes were poorly written or lacked heart. This was a person who cared about her work. Too bad it was for pleasing loud mouth, ignorant, jerks.

    Where is her blue costume??? Why are they all wearing black leather (can't decipher sides)??? You can't fight in black leather!!! This isn't the Matrix!!!! Kristin Kreuk does NOT resemble Chun-Li in any way, shape, or form. Look at her thighs!!!! That bitch can't kick anyone and expect it to actually hurt!!!! I don't know why they would cast her except that maybe they didn't have enough money to pay someone good or maybe they couldn't find an actress that was available or even wanted to do the movie... they ruined Vega.... I'm not even gonna get started on that.... (metal mask!!! lol wtf!?!?) All real Street Fighter fans will NOT go and see this movie... this movie will make NO money at all.... especially when we can ALL download it for free when it comes out just like we ALL do every time for all these shitty video game movies...
