The Dark Knight is Already the Most Downloaded Movie of 2008

It was no surprise that The Dark Knight tops Yahoo’s top 10 downloaded movie trailers of the year:

1. The Dark Knight
2. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
3. Twilight
4. The Incredible Hulk
5. Iron Man
6. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
7. Wanted
8. Hancock
9. Sex and the City
10. Kung Fu Panda

But the shocker came when Apple announced today that they have crowned a new best-selling digital movie download of the year. Get this - it’s a film that hasn’t even been released yet! That’s right, The Dark Knight. Apparently more customers have pre-ordered the movie that the film has already surpassed Disney/Pixar’s WALL-E to become the biggest digital movie of the year. The other three movies rounding out the top five are Dreamworks Animation’s Kung Fu Panda, Paramount’s Iron Man and Disney’s National Treasure: Book of Secrets.

And since we’re talking about Best of the year lists, Mr. Skin has announced the Top 20 Celebrity Nude Scenes of 2008 (yea, I know, a very weak transition but I’m tired):

    I viewed Dark Knight at theater and that was enough for me. I may wan't to catch it a couple years from now but I don't have a serious urge to view it again at the moment. By then it will be more reasonable price as well. I enjoyed Dark Knight, but for all its glory I still enjoyed Batman Begins much more.

  • I'm So glad that true blood is getting recognized for something! Cause I was starting to think I was the only fan of the show. There should be some more Californication folkel on there.... IE: the TV cook .

  • Anyone else find it ironic that TDK was the one movie the studio made the best effort to try and make sure it wasn't pirated as soon as possible, giving it a good 36 hours (?) between the release of the film and the first torrent (which may not sound like much, but is a damn long amount of time), only to have it be the most pirated film of 2008.

    I guess it says something about the quality and popularity of the film, but still, irony at it's best there.
  • Do you watch Sunshine on mute while listening to The Dark Knight soundtrack, because that is the only way that Sunshine can be viewed . Danny Boyle was of his rocker with the entire third act of that film.... But in all seriousness TDK on BLU-RAY!!! I would be happy if I went to best buy and they told me it sold out ... then I would get angry ...

    Do you know if the Batpod Edition was confirmed for both DVD and BR? or was it some sort of BR exclusive? I haven't heard much about that yet.

  • The Dark Knight is going to clean up on DVD and BluRay. Absolutely make a killing. Sorry, Heath.
  • :( Oh Heath. Why did you have to die? But seriously.. the sales from DVD/BluRay are going to be astronomical. I bought a BluRay player a few months ago and have used my Netflix mainly as my source of BluRays. The only movie I've bought on BluRay so far was Sunshine and the next is absolutely going to be The Dark Knight.

    That's the problem with this Mr. Skin list. It's mainly obsessed with celebrity status, i.e. those are not the best nude scenes of the year. If you are famous everything that remotely resembles a nude scene will get an entry. Amy Smart scene in Mirrors lasts for a split-second. Also Anna Faris and Angelina Jolie are both only listed because of their fame. But apparently that's what the people want to see.

    Yeah, but it was only a backshot, like Jolie in Wanted, lol, nothing frontal. That movie was rated PG-13 anyway.

    And then while they are at it, create a market as extensive as the female celebrity nudity community that caters to people who want celebrity male nudity.

    Then bribe the MPAA to allow male nudity in films for than a a blip without giving them an NC-17 rating. Then maybe studio execs will commision more scripts allowing such.

    The list would probably only include Jason Segel for this year.
