Martin Scorsese to Direct The Falcon’s Tale?

I totally missed this item in the latest issue of Production Weekly, but Alex from FirstShowing sent me a link to this story on Cinemablend about a project called Falcon’s Tale that Martin Scorsese is supposedly attached to direct. What is this movie? A quick internet search turns up NOTHING. But I decided to dig a little deeper and have come upon more information about the project.

James Keene and author/reporter Hillel Levin sold a one-page description of this story to Playboy and to Paramount / GK Films (the production company behind Edge of Darkness) in a seven-figure film deal in November 2007. The article, titled “The Strange Redemption of James Keene”, appeared in the August 2008 issue of Playboy on page 54. The book is due to be released by St. Martin’s in Fall 2009.  So what is the story about?

“James Keene was serving a 10-year-to-life sentence as a convicted drug dealer when the FBI came to him with an amazing offer. They wanted him to enter a high-security prison for the criminally insane in order to get information from a suspected serial killer awaiting retrial. If he helped them succeed, they would free James from prison. Only one person in the prison would know Jim’s true identity.”

Sounds very compelling. Academy Award-winning screenwriter William Monahan (The Departed) is penning the screenplay adaptation. And as you know, Monahan has ties to Scorsese, and penned The Departed, which makes the story that much more believable. I’m not sure if Scorsese is officially attached, and even if he is, that doesn’t mean that he will direct it (if Scorsese directs 10% of the films he is currently attached to, I’ll be amazed).

Damnit, beat me to it :-P
  • This sounds interesting as long as they don't make Keene into "someone they can't really trust." That happens all the time.

Sounds a little like a better version of Face Off. Instead of "I will become him" it's "I will become his friend" lol and of course you know that something is going to happen to that "only person" at the jail who knows his secret

Nah he's starrign in The Great Gatsby lol

I don't like Martin Scorcese anymore mainly due to his sick love affair with Leonardo Dicaprio. Can he put out a good product without Leo as his leading man? I can't answer that, but would like to see.
  • are you crazy? leo has done some of his best work with scorsese. he's his new deniro
  • what about that "i paint houses red" movie? was looking forward to that.

i know from a very reliable source that Martin scorsese was doing auditions for a new tv drama for a cable tv, so to also make a movie sounds a little bit far fetched
  • Chromey
    No. it doesn't.

Hopefully his will be a good as the first 9/10 of The Departed and they can figure out a more interesting way to end it other than shooting everybody.

As someone in the near nonexistent minority that thought the Departed wasn't that great of a film, I'm going to keep my optimism under wraps. I think Marty works with some great stories, but as of late, putting those stories to film has been kind of hit and miss for me.
  • I hope this plot information isn't true because I really don't think Vinnie Chase is going to be able to pull off a drug dealer/undercover mental patient..

This sounded great until the mention of William Monahan
  • good to hear this.

Would this be the film that Vincent Chase will be starring in?
  • DAMN I was gonna post the same thing... that was one cool cameo! Another feather in the Entourage cap.
  • I dunno about the 'new' DeNiro... but Leo has performed well with Scorcese at the helm.
  • it was deniro himself that introduced the two. told marty, leo would be a great fit now that deniro is too old for most of scorsese's roles.

Haphazardb141 has it correct. How can anyone lavish praise on a movie like "The Departed" when the script was stolen from Asian Cinema? Scorcese was lame for remaking the film and even lamer for saying he had no idea that it was originally from Asian Cinema.

sounds like Sam Fuller's SHOCK CORRIDOR to me. Which is rad

read the August 2008 Playboy article. I grew up with Keene in Kankakee, know the background of the story and his drug bust and what he did to get out of it and thus arriving at this film. This should be a very entertaining movie when it does come out. He is also involved and helping write another movie called "buried". This too is somewhat of a true story involving a local business man who was kidnapped, buried alive and ended up dying in the box he was put in due to lack of air.
