ComingSoon has confirmed that the first (non Comic Con exclusive) movie trailer for Wolverine will be attached to The Day The Earth Stood Still on December 12th. And apparently Fox isn’t going to put the trailer online until some later point, forcing comic book geeks to see their potentially bad sci-fi remake (I say potentially, because I have yet to be impressed with the footage released thus far, and the move of announcing the attachment of a Wolverine trailer smells of desperation).

And we all know that the trailer will be bootlegged and leaked onto YouTube. It always happens. And its a shame because hundreds of thousands, if not millions are subjected to these subpar quality bootleg trailers, and its all the studios fault. If I were Fox/Paramount/Insert Studio here, I would release new movie trailers online on Saturday morning. Give the theaters 24 hours of exclusivity, forcing hardcore fans to make the journey, yet preventing hordes of Internet readers from being exposed to an inferior trailer presentation. After all, this is an advertisement we’re talking about. Wouldn’t you want your potential audience to see it in it’s best possible presentation?

well, not to promote or anything, but you can find a bootleg of the trailer here (http://www.pwhitrow.com/blog/entries/2008/07/29/x...and I think it looks ok so far.
  • Well then. I guess this just pushed me over the edge of whether or not I would see another Keannu "I Only Have One Facial Expression" Reeves movie.
  • I was planning to see The Day The Earth Stood Still" anyway so this makes it that much better.
  • I might just have to go see The Day The Earth Stood Still now. Wolverine is one of my favourite X-Men (behind Night Crawler) and I really hope they don't screw this one up like X-Men 3.
  • the day the earth stood still looks like it would be awesome, but im not sure about this wolverine movie.. i guess the trailer will give us a better idea. i do have one question though, am I a mutant because my claws come out when i am taking a major shit?
  • I agree with Peter, I can understand exclusive content during events like Comic-Con..although when it comes to actual promotional material the sooner they release the better...you'd expect studios to add big trailers to big movies, it doesn't make sense that they would add Wolverine to TDTESS....the film looks horrible and Fox should be ashamed for the amount of poor films they've released in the last couple of years...

Ghost Rider, Fantasic Four, Daredevil, Elektra, Max Payne, Babylon A.D., Meet Dave, The Happening, Jumper, AVP Requiem and Hitman...it's just a laundry list of cheaply rushed projects to make money.....they seem to put more effort in a good trailer than a good feature..the studio looses the audience's respect when they make inferior films...then question why nobody sees them after opening weekend and why the DVD sales are awful...their constant melding with directors is also a cause for concern...you never know we could be looking at a different movie from the footage from Comic-Con
  • Absolutely agree. Studios need to take extra special care of their trailers and get them out there as much as possible - its their strongest selling point to the masses. Why they tend to wait and hold on till its just about too late I'll never know.
  • [A]
Pay to see Keanu.. that's a crime!
  • if it is same trailer they showed at Comic Con then its a badass trailer
  • All this time and still no better picture than this one?
  • "Wouldn’t you want your potential audience to see it in it’s best possible presentation?"

I never understood the point of studios holding off on putting an official trailer online. If you have a trailer, why not release it?
  • Anyone else find that pic hilarious? it looks like Jackman is taking a dump hahah
  • Oi Vey
so in the lower half of the pic, he's on the toilet???
  • I was going to see TDTESS anyway, so this is just a bonus. Although I agree the procrastinatory tactic sounds a little off.
  • one of my friends who is an industry journalist saw TDESS and he was very-very impressed. and i trust him
  • Yippy!! I will defiantly be watching "The Day the Earth Stood Still" on Decemeber 12th. I'm really excited to see the new "Dragonball" and "Wolverine" trailers. WOW!! Two big trailers in one movie. I totally agree with my homie Peter Sciretta!! They should defiantly put the trailers on the internet on Saturday instead of waiting Monday.
  • I think ESS looks like ass.
    Wolverine loos bad-ass.
  • "And its a shame because hundreds of thousands, if not millions are subjected to these subpar quality bootleg trailers, and its all the studios fault."

    Patience is a virtue!
Actually, I think there should be a short period of exclusivity. I know I would not have gone to see Quantum of Solace if the Star Trek trailer weren't attached - even after I saw it, it took the entire weekend to see it again! Too long!
  • Hugh Jackman is so dreamy. Combine this with his awesome acting abilities (The Prestige, Fountain) and that equals a mancrush on Hugh.
  • "...about a man who wants nothing more than to live his dream of dance. But evil mutants keep getting in the way of his dream, forcing him into a world of violence and loneliness. Can Wolverine overcome the odds and make it as the first ever mutant Chippendale?"

    I love Latino Review sometimes.
  • Burt Nelson
Because watching a crappy you tube version of the trailer will somehow hurt business for Wolverine? Please.
  • i do enjoy
do you want to make people lough then upload your own comic video photoes and music in www.uploaded.tv and be famous

"Wouldn’t you want your potential audience to see it in it’s best possible presentation?"
Well...of course I'd like to, BUT:
I'm from germany and here I'm pretty sure it won't come out on 12th Dec.
I'm not sure, when "The Day The Earth Stood Still" will be released here (most times about 1-2 months later) AND I'm pretty sure the trailer won't be attached to that movie. Here we get the "coming soon" Trailers fitting to the cinema you're sitting in.

Soo...I watch the Trailers on the official sites, but when they're to slow...youtube is a solution for that. And until the cinemas show the trailer...
  • Emm
yeah, i'll wait for the trailer to make it on to good o'l youtube. A shame, but I have the sinkin feeling that wolverine won't will match up to any of the recent comic book movies (ironman/dark knight), so I'm not too bummed.

I'm also not interested in the remake of TDESS, all i hope for is that isn't butchered horribly. Maybe on dvd or depending on the reviews, I do enjoy Jennifer Connelly as an actress though.
  • I think The Day The Earth Stood Still will be an average film. But if its not your thing you can always just go to watch the Wolverine trailer and then leave lol.
  • I have actually done this before, which is kind of funny.
