Summit Entertainment Announces TWILIGHT Sequel - NEW MOON

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 22 — Summit Entertainment announced today that the studio is officially moving forward with the production of NEW MOON, the second installment of its filmed franchise TWILIGHT, the action-packed, modern day vampire love story. The movie will be based on the second novel in author Stephenie Meyer’s “Twilight” series titled, “New Moon.” The first movie in the TWILIGHT franchise, the self-titled TWILIGHT, arrived in theaters this weekend to sold-out showings.

Stephenie Meyer stated, “I don’t think any other author has had a more positive experience with the makers of her movie adaptation than I have had with Summit Entertainment. I’m thrilled to have the chance to work with them again on NEW MOON.”

Starring Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, TWILIGHT tells the story of 17-year-old Bella Swan who moves to the small town of Forks, Washington to live with her father, and becomes drawn to Edward Cullen, a pale, mysterious classmate who seems determined to push her away. But neither can deny the attraction that pulls them together … even when Edward confides that he and his family are vampires. Their unorthodox romance puts her in physical danger when Edward’s nemesis comes to town and sets his sights on Bella.

  • I'm looking forward to it though I have way more doubts about New Moon than Twilight. If you thought the vampires were retarded since they sparkle, well the werewolves in New Moon are almost as tall as the vamps. They're going to be beyond cheesy.
  • DO NOT WANT
  • Awesome!
  • Wait till they get to the fourth adaptation. It's gonna be a lot harder to sell the "abstinence" deal after that.
  • Emm
Yup, after making almost their whole budget in one day. This is going to be painful, something defiantly has to change for this movie. It can become a lot worse if the fx doesn't match. I can't imagine how they will butcher werewolfs. I truly hope that they do get to film a portion of this in Italy to film and not build a crappy set somewhere.

It will be interesting to see how much they budget this film though, summit was saying they hope to build good films off a budget between 30-60 mil. I'm sure they'll bump it up for this film, but how much who knows...

I am really happy to see that Twilight's sequel New Moon is in the works. I would like to know how can someone get cast into a Twilight sequel. Please e-mail me :Bonitaangel331@yahoo.com.
    Thanks
    Ramona
  • And here I was celebrating what would have been some of the last articles on slashfilm pertaining to the Twilight phenomenon. There is no god
  • There is a god, he just hates you.
  • Ali
I'm excited, but at the same time worried about the werewolves. Making them as big as they're described in the books is going to mean a lot of CGI, which can always go horribly, horrible wrong.
  • Zinc
    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
  • Mer
Yay! That is awesome! I love the wolves in the novels. Team Jacob all the way! So they best not screw up the effects! Best of luck guys! I'm sure it'll be great! The actors were so much better than I expected in Twilight.
  • mahaley
what-ever!!!!! team switzerland right here. wolves are okay but the vampires are awesome! anyway wolves stink. you are right about how they better not screw up new moon.
  • Didn't see this coming...
  • inzader
I just want the 4th book.
I heard a FUCKING VAMPIRE FETIS EATS A CHICK FROM THE INSIDE OUT!
    THATS NUTS!
  • John
no he doesnt eat her stupid
  • ThatkidRich
really bad casting with the rest of the cast.
  • Reader
They won't have to sell the "abstinence deal" b/c Edward and Bella get married.
  • I'm hoping for better things to come with New Moon. I loved Twilight but I was a little concerned that they rushed some of the areas I thought they should have explored a little more. One of my friends that had not read the book went with me and I immediately was concern that she had no idea what was going on. However, at the end of the movie she loved it . She said it was an amazing movie and I thought that was awesome. I think being such an avid fan put me at a disadvange of just enjoying the movie and not picking it apart. However, after saying that I seen it again and didn't try to analyze it to death and absolutely LOVED IT! I can't wait for New Moon and I really do hope that they get a bigger budget.
  • Fantastic. You know? Just fantastic. I get to come home after a 10 hour shoot day and this is what I get to read. Really. Fantastic.
  • Well shucks. At least as the sequels move along they will get worse and worse until audiences suddenly realize 'hang on, why do we come watch this shit'? That isn't to say they won't keep making money, though.
  • Oh, and if it's been greenlit, that means it will start PRE-production. Then go into production, then be edited and have some horrid CGI completed in pre-production, before being thrown to us in the 4th and final stage, marketing & distribution.

  • Kill it with fire.

I'm so excited to hear about New Moon! How fun for Twilight fans! I understand if you are NOT a fan, but I don't understand, I suppose, the intense NEGATIVITY of the Twilight fan base that seems to radiate from /film users. Its a movie for a specific audience. Why not just NOT be interested in it? Why all the passionate hatred??

Anyway, I saw Twilight this weekend. I was dissappointed in some aspects and happy in others. I was entertained. I was hoping for a bit more... it definitely lost the magic of the books, but I knew that it couldn't be spot on.

There are a few things I hope they think about when making New Moon. One: they need better special effects. They were so bad I had to laugh at them, which sucks being a Twilight fan. There is no reason they shouldn't be given a much bigger budget the second time around and I hope they use it. well.

Two, they need to slow down and stop making the scenes so choppy. Character development was sadly lacking in this movie. I knew who everyone was having read the books, but someone who hadn't read them wouldn't have a clue.
  • Melissa
Fix the music. It didn't fit at all.

Stop doing wierd things with the camera. Stop suddenly swooping around them while they are talking. Its okay to just let the camera rest on the actors!

Do that in the sequel and I'll be happy. The next one has a lot to do with a slowly building friendship between Jacob and Bella... they didn't do a lot of relationship building in the first movie. They NEED to fix that making the second one! I will cross my fingers they get it right!
  • They should make a Twilight vs Lost Boys movie.
  • Kiara
New director! New screenwriter! Or at least get better special effects and let friendships and relationships develop.
  • How about new source material?
  • i love the books loved the movie and pretty sure will love the sequels. but i do have a concern. how will they keep rpattz from looking older. kstew is supposed to but how will they keep rpattz from looking older. they already started the 2nd the movie but still what about the next installments they cant quit at the second book. that would suck dinosaurs!
  • why i would so not watch that!
  • they said they might increase it by 130 million i heard i am not sure if it is true though because i have heard a lot of different stuff like someone told me midnight sun came out the day the movie did i am pretty sure thats not true though so well see. even though people say that the movie sux i still loved it like i loved the books

to those who hate the movie and books:
hop off the movies jock ! zome! you need to chill. you certaintly made me want to watch the movie even more...haha
  • freak much?
  • i think they are making the wolves like they are in the movie blood and chocolate if you have seen that werewolf movie. they just phase in mid-air and swirl in less than a second there wolves. i think they should do that. like make them big dogs. TAYLOR LAUTNER would look pretty hot as a wolf just cause hes hot!
  • It's good to hear a non-Twilighter understood what was going on. I felt like so much was just assumed you would already know... but maybe that's not true... we're just thinking of the book material we DO know and how it wasn't in there... I'm planning on seeing it again next weekend. I'm looking forward to watching it just for the movie now that I know what to expect and not compare it to the books so much
  • oh he won't age THAT much in the next few years... and they can do wonders with makeup and lighting... I mean they make people look older and younger all the time in movies....
  • I'm sorry Ramona, I don't think anyone on this site has anything to do with casting
  • I think they should hire Joss Whedon to do New Moon! Seriously. He made Serenity off of a small budget and that was a good movie! Plus he is no stranger to making good relationships on screen... Buffy and Angel? Buffy/Spike? Captain Mal and Inora (sp?), etc etc. I think Joss would do a MUCH better job than Catherine did!
  • EenieMeenieMoe
    haha :-)

Why don't you just stop reading the Twilight articles??? Easy enough to do...
  • I agree. Twilight could have been made better but it was still fun. I enjoyed it. I think New Moon could use a new director but that isn't going to happen (darn it). Hopefully a bigger budget will mean better special effects... and hopefully the bad reviews will help Catherine think about the mistakes she made on Twilight and hopefully fix them the next time around (PLEASE no more wierd/distracting camera angles in the middle of scenes!!)

That being said I loved Twilight and am excited to see New Moon (possibly my favorite in the series as well!)
  • huh? This comment makes no sense. Were you responding to someone or did you forget to finish your thought/sentence?
  • Sarah
Whedon wouldn't work with this kind of crap though.
  • Oh I don't know... if you read New Moon and then watch some old Buffy episodes I can see definite similarities...
  • TWILIGHT FAN 4 EVR
AS IF, THEY ARE NOTHING ALIKE. YOUR JUST DISSING THEM 'CAUSE YOU WANT TO.
  • Gwen
On the other hand...Whedon has a habit of not giving his characters happy endings. Therefore, he SHOULD do it because it wouldn't end all happy and fluffy and crap.
  • inzader
    Ya damn Right.
  • Twilight turned out average, but entertaining, so I'm happy to see New Moon has been greenlit. There is a lot of room for improvement - like no more wire work, please!!!! I think that if Melissa (the screenwriter) develops New Moon she should not have Stephanie (the author) so involved and use her skill to adapt the book better for the screen. I had problems with the screenplay shoving almost too much of the book's dialogue into the movie and it simply didn't translate believably. Also, too many close ups, damn, half the film was only Bella and Edward's face, which made me realize what bugs me about Kristen Stewart. The girl is a pretty good actress, but she has got to stop shaking her head all the time, it's like a nervous tick and it's distracting. She's so fidgety I wish she would just relax because sometimes she looks distracted as she waits to deliver her next line. I think that perhaps the better direction for Edward is to have him switch been looking arrogant and brooding which would change up the near constant morose staring.
  • Meli, you know what bugged my the most... Taylor Lautner's teeth. They are just too white, it is not normal. I also think he just needs to stop smiling so damn much, its annoying.Kristen just bugs me period. I thought Rob did very well though.
  • We all knew this was coming.
  • LOL! I have to agree Taylor has those unnaturally white teeth I dislike the look too. He has a sweet smile and if they chose to keep him for New Moon his smile will definitely fit the book description. I thought there was a good moment of tension/dislike between Edward and Jacob at the prom, which was a nice foreshadowing. I like how we saw Victoria at the prom; however, it was a little out of place because Edward would have smelled her presence. I can overlook him not hearing her thoughts because he was concentrated on his time with Bella. Of course, this is the movie not the book, so it is a small detail I can overlook.
  • This is true, but there is just something about him that bugs the crap out of me. There was good tension there. At least they got that much going lol. Yes, the Victoria thing bothered me too. I mean it was good foreshadowing, but your right. Edward would have known she was there one way or another. I was thinking about that this morning actually. It didn't dawn on me when I was watching it.

I thought the kissing scene was pretty good. There was like an 8 year old kid that that started yelling "oh yeah, that's what I'm talking about" when he pushed her back on the bed. I was like WTF? Kids these days....
