Arrested Development Movie Set-Up At Fox Searchlight

An Arrested Development movie has always sounded like the wishful thinking of the television series hardcore fans. Over the years cast and crew have indulged, purportrated rumors, and continued the myth of an Arrested Development movie. I think I may have even made a posting proclaiming that an Arrested Development movie isn’t going to happen, no matter how much the cast members say they would like to reunite.

And even after Jeffrey Tambor told Collider last week that the film was a “go”, I remained skeptical. But much like dry land, the Arrested Development movie is not a myth. Creator and executive producers Mitch Hurwitz and Ron Howard closing a deal from the project at Imagine and Fox Searchlight. No more details are known at this time. In the series finale, Maeby tries to sell the television rights to the Bluth family’s story to Ron Howard, who tells her that he instead sees it as a movie. So maybe the Arrested Development movie would pick up from there?

Discuss: What should the Arrested Development movie be about?

  • P.s. Also make a Red Dwarf movie please.
  • This movie would be great if it picked up right where the series ended. They would be good for fans and not seem like a money thing.
  • What should it be about? 3 hours long and 10 laughs a minute!

It's gonna be tough, because TV doesn't always transition well to film, and I'd hate for the movie to be something that you could leave out of your collection instead of a natural and almost necessary part of the series.

    I'll see it anyway.
  • So, what exactly is the difference between shooting another series or a movie-length episode to continue the story, and making a film for cinemas? Besides the obvious lunge for cash - honestly, what is the point?

  • theres a few things you could do

build on maybe and George michaels relationship seeing as how they arent related

show Tobias as a successful actor, with carl weathers of course

see what happened with the mother stealing the cruise ship.

    Gob doing more magic

    buster beign buster

    UGH i need this movie
  • tv troll
please, for the love of god, make this movie!
  • i wonder if Michael cera will appear in it?
  • An Arrested Development movie would almost inherently NOT be a "money thing" because of how poorly it did on TV. Even with a bigger fan base now that it's had time to garner a cult following, I don't think Fox has enough faith in it to be doing it strictly for the money, at least not from the masses - which means that the target audience is, of course, Arrested fans, which in turn SHOULD mean that they'll try to pull them in by pouring in all the elements we loved from the series.

That said, gawwwd DAMMIT, I can't wait for this!
  • You also run into the problem of now that it has a cult following, Fox is wanting to do a movie to capitalize.
  • The first scene should have the whole family being arrested and sent to jail. The rest of the movie should follow their dealing with being locked up and institutionalized together.
  • Conor
YES and of course cera will appaer....
  • The Movie should be about theme trying to make Maeby's movie into a television show. Along the way, Pop-pop should still be included in some kind of fraud due to Lucille's doing.
  • he will.
  • A deal with Fox Searchlight better not entail a limited release or even a platform release. This deserves no less than an open on thousands of screens.
  • The movie should be about Maeby getting pregnant by George-Michael and deciding to give the baby up for adoption.
  • I should probably go out and rent this show, hmmn?
  • I think it's just a mite overrated, but yeah, you probably should.

Oh, right, like the guy in the $3,000 suit cares if Michael Cera's in the movie! Come on!

    My idea for the plot:

Lindsay does end up convincing Michael to marry her, and Maeby and George Michael end up being brother and sister, basically.

While they're trying to deal with that, Michael is forced back into running the company by his father while he tries to get Lucille out of prison.

Meanwhile, newly divorced, Tobias' acting career shoots to new heights with a starring role in Maeby's film about her family.

This causes Lindsay to want Tobias again, and she tries to divorce Michael. George Michael tries to help this along.

    From there? *shrugs*

I'm all for a movie although it should finally give this story an ending...as much as I love the series the shows never really had an ending...which could be an issue with a movie version....It should be a one shot no sequels no matter how good it is, give the fans the massive final episode we all missed out on...
  • Zach
    Dear FOX,

    MAKE THE FUCKING MOVIE ALREADY.

    Sincerely,
Everyone with a sense of humor
  • I've waited since the show ended for substantial news about this, but it'll probably end up doing less business than the "Firefly" movie. Naturally, I don't care how much an "AD" movie will pull in at the box office, but Fox Searchlight and Imagine might care a little.
  • Captain Awesome
    THE FINAL COUNTDOOOOOOWN!!!
  • The movie should be about Ann getting pregnant by George-Michael and deciding to give the baby up for adoption.
  • Rocksteady
This movie should be about the Bluth's quest to actually see a chicken.
  • jojo
    you don't make sense.
  • Huzzah!
  • It works perfectly as a TV show. If you're going to get the cast back and go all the way again, why not SHOOT MORE EPISODES? Why risk making a film - and - what exactly makes that so special?

this film needs to explore what happens to the family when micheal finally leaves them to their idiocy. that was one of the issues with the show; micheal always came to the rescue. we need to see a divided bluth family, then the re-uniting and an end.

Oh, F yes, this would make a great movie! I totally agree with the part about the series being chopped up too much (weekly installments) and it doing better if we could see it all at once (logic to why the DVD sets have done so well). It would, however, require everyone to be on-board, which I fear may not be in the cards. Ideas: Amy Pohler guest spot, GOB accepts Steve Holt and marries Anne (her?), who is younger than Steve, Lindsay and Tobias divorce bc SHE is gay (HA!), but Tobias remains in the family bc, turns out, he's Oscar's son (with Lucille 2), and so is Buster. Lindsay ends up with Kitty just to stick it to her dad, and they adopt George Micheal and Maeby's baby, now she's back in the family. Just some thoughts...

anything that involves dr funke's 100% natural good time family band solution, a new gob and franklin cd, the big yellow joint, and multiple "ive made a huge mistake"'s. Im sold.
also id like to see them actually build some houses, in all the seasons they didnt build any houses, except for the one that fell down and the tiny town that was eventually destroyed by the mole.
    im excited.
  • Some thoughts!
