I’ll be perfectly honest, the only reason I was ever interested in Warner Bros’ big screen adaptation of Jonah Hex, was the involvement of filmmakers Neveldine/Taylor, the insane directing team behind Crank. Variety reports that Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor have decided to leave the project because of “creative differences” with the movie studio over the direction of the comic book adaptation.

So what now? Warner Bros is quickly trying to find a replacement, as potential star Josh Brolin currently has time in his schedule for a Spring 2009 start. If Warner Bros isn’t able to find someone up to the task soon, this sounds like one of those projects that could easily fall into development heck.

Jonah Hex is a former alcoholic and confederate soldier turned supernatural loner and gunslinger. The comic book was introduced in the 1970’s, created by writer John Albano and artist Tony DeZuniga, the character received his signature scar at the hands of Indians who placed a hot tomahawk to his face. His mother was a prostitute and his dad sold him into slavery.

Discuss: Do you still want to see a Jonah Hex movie? And if so, who would you like to see direct?

No, Tarantino making a comic book would be hell. It'll have soooo many retarded obscure comic-book/film references. He would go so far up his arse that he could see out of his mouth.

I guess the director depends on which Jonah Hex they're going for - Zombie Killer Hex or Bounty Hunter Hex. If they go for the former, they'll need someone good with action scenes and suspense. If they go for the latter, it could be a decent character development flick.
  • As long as this and Preacher gets made, I'll be happy.
  • yeah, i'll want to see it.
  • Preacher should come first, but I still really want to see this get made (even though I've never read the comic). Especially with Brolin in the lead. That would be sooo cool.

I could only sit through the first 30 minutes of Crank, so I'm happy those 2 are gone. I love Josh Brolin . . . .
  • He's an interesting character so I'm still on board. Crank was good, but in the "this is ridiculous" way. Hex shouldn't be treated so I think. His stories are a little outlandish, but in the universe, they fit.
  • Is the text spacing on Slashfim different? I feel like it's really big or spacey in height which makes the post seem unnaturally long. Small quibble, but hope you guys can put it back to the way it was.

i would only want to see this if it's batshit crazy... sounds like the producers don't want that.

Directors like Neil Marshall, John Woo, Takeshi Miike or even Quentin Tarantion could make this into a interesting movie where the pop corn value could be high. A cool looking actionmovie/western could be really fun to watch.

I loved the comics and I think that it is time for a desent westernmovie again.
  • This sounds like a job for Cage and those Ghost Rider writers. They could handle it.

Honestly though I would like to see Boyle or Aronofsky step out of bounds and tackle something like this.
  • i like the comedy
