McG Reveals Terminator: Salvation Secrets

Will Arnold Schwarzenegger appear in Terminator: Salvation? When the California Governor was spotted on the set of the sci-fi sequels, rumors began to circulate that Arnold would be providing a capture of his face to implant on a younger actor’s body.  Total Film was able to ask McG at a recent UK press event, and here is what the director said:

“We’re trying to synthesise a human character with a CGI character and that may or may not have something to do with the T800,” McG said with a smile. “At the moment it’s not good enough. And we’re running out of time.”

A little cryptic, but it seems like it might fit the previous theory/rumor. And speaking of rumors, McG claims that the rumored ending to the film where John Connor is replaced with a cyborg is completely false.

“That is not the ending. John Connor is not the machine. We did discuss that idea, but that is not the ending, I can say that right now.”

Christian Bale does speak the famous catch phrase “I’ll Be Back”, but in some sort of context that is 180 degrees reversed from the original film.  McG also confirmed that Bale is signed up for two sequels, which McG claims are already “arced out.”

“‘Terminator Salvation – The Videogame’ allows players to battle for survival against Skynet enemies utilizing an incredibly fluid and realistic control set,” said Cos Lazouras, President of Halcyon Games. “The player will be led through a visceral story with extremely polished production values to create a fully interactive Terminator experience.”

“Building on the incredibly strong franchise, ‘Terminator Salvation – The Videogame’ will be a cinematic gaming experience that complements the upcoming film,” said John Quinn, Executive Vice President, Worldwide Operations, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. “Working with Halcyon and Equity Games, we will expand on the Terminator universe on next generation consoles with action packed gameplay and detailed environments.”

A huge sigh of relief.....that cyborg ending was dumb.

I still can't get pass that stupid title. Salvation, it's just too sissy, too feminine. That's like Die Hard with a Pony... oh well, give me robots punching through humans' stomachs for 2 hours and I'm happy.
  • i dont like the idea of them already having two sequels planned. i can see this being decent at best. i really dont care enough to see a new trilogy. i cant even think of a halfway decent trilogy in the past 15 years. and obviously it wont be anything too amazing with mcg directing.

  • I don't care if Jonathan Nolan had a hand in the script, after reading about Halcyon in Script Magazine these guys sound less and less like they know what they are doing. And not to be a dick the Terminator series is nothing without the thematic element of Time travel. Like the end game in chess, it's just boring.
The fact they even thought for a moment that Connor could be a machine shows they are only going to obscenely violate the franchise. I am impressed. They nuked the fridge before I even had a chance to see the movie.

Even if this new Terminator movie is as mediocre as it looks, it will still be a step up from the last movie.
  • I wonder exactly how many Terminator films there will be. I don't think franchises should really go beyond the third movie, that's when it starts to suck.
  • Wouldn't it be cool if right at the end, when humanity perseveres and wins the war against the machines.............................ALIENS INVADED!

There WILL be a time travel element. Bale's "I'll be back" statement in "context that is 180 degrees reversed" probably means that he'll be saying this on his way back to the past. Of course, it will probably be his future dad saying it.

I predict that these new films will have more of a horror/zombie feel to them. Mark my words!
  • Really? What tipped you off? Was it the trailer, the stills, or the conceptual art that we've all seen?
  • I really liked the idea of John being the machine. Throughout the movies, they have built him up to be a god and this would really turn it on its head. The whole idea of them having to take orders from a machine (even if it is still Connor) is interesting if done right. Now i'm even more intrigued by what they come up with now. Plus I wanna see if these game will be a cash grab or not. I'm guessing yes.
  • I'm not surprised by them planning 2 sequels. It seems like every new movie is planned out for a trilogy.
  • Rob
T800? I am still kinda pissed about them introducing a T800 this early in the series. Introducing the T800 this early in the series screws up the timeline.
  • I'm betting that the T800 will be a prototype at the end of the movie leading into the next two sequels.
  • I think a trilogy of the Future War will be just fine.
  • Delta Assault
Yes, clearly a Terminator movie cannot have any tampering of the timeline.
  • This will be no where near AvP. Christian Bale brings to must to the table for that to happen.
  • The Title works if you view Connor as Christ-like
  • I really don't see what the problem would be with making John into a machine would be, besides the fact that it's all over the internet now and wouldn't be much of a twist. With how much "becoming more than a man. become a symbol" stuff that's being crammed down our throats lately i can see how it could become a possible outcome.
  • I for one think this movie is going to be awesome
  • It's because, of aaaalll the stuff we were happy to suspend belief for, THAT fridge moment was just too fucking far. And those born in the 90s are probably the ones who looked past it. Its the sincere fans from earlier decades who likely cringed most at that horrible indy moment.
  • Oi Vey
    wait..how is salvation 'feminine'? I don't get what you're saying...at all.
  • yes
  • Nuked the fridge?

To divert for a second...............how is Indy surviving an atomic bomb in a fridge any more goofy or improbable then say, him jumping out of a crashing plane in a life raft and landing on the side of a building? Or driving in a tunnel in a car next to a WW2 fighter plane with no wings skidding by next to him?

n00b's. I bet you were born in the 90's.

Oh yeah, what are we talking about here? Terminator. Looks okay. As long as it doesn't go down like AvP, franchise should be ok.
  • Probably because one of those scenarios was loaded with craptacular CGI in a series of films that was more well known for its practical effects?

There's a reason why people complain about the fridge and not about the others: because it sticks out like a fucking sore thumb.
  • I was mainly thinking his name really. In AvP there were no famous actors in it at all. At least with Terminator, they've got Bale's recent success to bank on. He would never chose a project like AvP.
  • Will they ever be able to top T-1000? I think not. The effects were fresh back then, they better have a really good script.
  • J.D.
    : cybernetic organism.
  • Lets go McG I believe in you...maybe this can be as good as T2...MAYBE...
  • “That is not the ending. John Connor is not the machine. We did discuss that idea, but that is not the ending, I can say that right now.”

    Thank. God.
Such a completely ridiculous and pointless "twist". The whole focus was to build John Connor up, only to slap you in the face and say he's metal? No. Here's to hoping this goes off without a hitch!
  • Solid
It's like how we usually think of nice things with women and badass things with men. Terminator happy sunshine would sound feminine and so does this. There ya go. To Aqualeo, it still sounds girly. please change it to Terminator Burn in Hell or something like that.
  • Lance_HBomb
So everything that's male-geared has to sound badass?

Studies are wrong- society still has not changed that much for the last 50 years.
  • Lance_HBomb
Maybe we should watch the movie before we all go whine like little girls, alright?
  • Lance_HBomb
Both. The voice and the acting is just Oscar worthy.
  • And what would be at that table exactly? His retarded Batman voice, or his wooden acting?
  • And then those aliens fall in love, but then there's some kind of misunderstanding that leads one of the aliens to believe that the other alien doesn't actually like him as much as he thought, but then they overcome the misunderstanding and come to realize how much they actually to mean to each other at the end.

And then they spot an asteroid heading towards the earth.
  • oh, you must be a real hardman.
  • awesome movie..
