  • I was surprised by Rorchach's voice. I didn't picture any gravel in his voice from the comic. And I totally see Dr. Manhattan having a "God" voice.
  • whats up Adam Devindra Dave. I am a long time follower of your work and just wanted to say that here, in the first comment. Keep it up. And Thank You.

I definitely agree with Adam that The Dark Knight's score sounded a lot like There Will Be Blood. Well, at least for the Joker's theme "Why So Serious?". That violin, for one, that raises and raises in intensity when the Joker confronts someone with a knife reminds me a lot of the music when Daniel Plainview crawls out of the earth during the beginning of TWBB.

I highly encourage Devindra to read Watchmen before the film comes out as well. Do it!!! As much as I want to go off on a rant about my irritation with the new Watchmen trailer, I've already done that, so I'll hold my tongue except for these few brief observations. The Rorschach voice by Alan Moore when he read the excerpt was gravelly, but also was much more monotone and disturbed sounding. Something I think missing from Rorschach on screen. However, considering the psychology scene in the comic (at the prison with Dr. Malcom), it will be interesting to see how Jackie Earle Haley gives his lines because the voice changes without the mask in the comic. No gravel there as indicated by the word bubbles, but still monotone. Also, Dr. Manhattan losing humanity was the point. There shouldn't be an attempt to bridge him with Jon Ostermann because by the end of the comic he practically becomes a god. He appreciates humanity on a new level, but he his in every other way a new creature, beyond humanity. A theory I've heard is that Doc is speaking with his human voice to make a point in that scene with Laurie until he goes back to his "blue speech", a god like tone of voice.

Adam and Matty from Filmspotting are my original dogs! Although the /Filmcast is, of course, required listening as well.
  • Hm I've already read Watchmen, did I mention at some point that I haven't? Totally agree with your points as well ;)
  • they didn't emphasize how stupidly beautiful olga was in that movie

Huh. Sorry man. I just thought what seemed like an unfamiliarity you had with the names of the characters was indicative of having not read the book. I think it was when you pronounced Rorschach with that French flair and called Nite Owl "the Owl", I guess I just assumed you might be unfamiliar with it. My bad though, and apologies. Admittedly, I still don't know how to pronounce "Ozymandias". : )
  • It's just been a while since I've read it, that and I'm naturally bad at names ;)
  • I wonder if Jen will make Dave cry again.
  • Monopoly as a movie has a potential to be a very interesting movie. Make a movie about a group of people playing Monopoly and during the game they start to fight and all their hidden secrets are slowly coming out of the closet. The movie ends in a outrageous bloodbath where the looser kills them all and runs around in the apartment with the car shouting "I WILL WIN!".

Now that would be a good start to a series of boardgames movies in the spirit of Saw.
Monopoly the Movie, Star Wars Monopoly, The Simpsons Monopoly and so on. Cool
