Warner Bros has released a new trailer for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Is it just me, or do the trailers for the Potter series seem to get more and more epic with each new film that is released? Even the title cue has an extremely epic take on John William’s original Potter theme. Tell me what you think in the comments below.

Plot Synopsis: Voldemort is tightening his grip on both the Muggle and wizarding worlds and Hogwarts is no longer the safe haven it once was. Harry suspects that dangers may even lie within the castle, but Dumbledore is more intent upon preparing him for the final battle that he knows is fast approaching. Meanwhile, the students are under attack from a very different adversary as teenage hormones rage across the ramparts. Love is in the air, but tragedy lies ahead and Hogwarts may never be the same again.

Watch the trailer in High Definition on HPNA.com. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince hits theaters on July 17th 2009.

Yeah that is a funny mistake, but back to the matter at hand...I feel kind of undecided about this movie after the trailer. It feels really uneven to me. The humor in it doesnt really work, and there is very little excitment of any kind until the last few shots. I was a huge fan of the last film, and have confidence in Yates as a returning director, but the move to july from what was supposed to be next week is very unsettling. Warner can say it wanted a big summer movie for next year, but they already have termintor 4.which makes me think there are some serious issues with this film that they hoped to patch up before july.
  • JP
I have been waiting for an epic version of Hedwig's Theme for years! I cannot wait for this movie!!! I'm really bummed that it's not coming out next friday, but CANNOT wait until July! It's also really obvious that the cinematography on this film will be the best yet! Bruno Debonnell better stay on for Deathly Hallows!
  • Roberto
I too hated the move to Summer. For personal reasons. I generally associate these movies, which occur during a school year, to be Fall/Winter movies, not Summer movies. Feels wrong to watch HP when it is 90 degrees outside.
  • Tonberry2k
Yeah, it looks pretty awesome, yet part of me can't help still being pissed because I know how much of a letdown book/movie seven is.
  • Matt
    Looks AWESOME!
    One issue:
The title appears darker every time. SO whats happening with DH 1 and 2? It will be a rough white outline, then by part 2, total black? :P
  • simonit
Tonberry2k are you kidding? In my opinion it's easily the best book in the series.

What I'm worried about is that the Deathly Hallows movie(s) are gonna drag out on that deadly boring camping trip of doom the three main characters go on.
  • Santana
This is going to be AMAZING. I can't wait to see it:)

    Harry Potter movie formula:

    1. Release trailer that copies Lord of the Rings' style and features scenes set to excellent music with a hint of the familiar john williams theme at the end.

    2. Have actors go on talk shows to express how normal and boring being rich and famous is, to endear them to the audience of course.

    3. Release film which isn't remarkable except for cuaron's, but filled to the brim with expensive special fx to justify its ridiculous box office returns.

    4. Repeat steps 1 through 3 in the next year or two.
  • This only makes the wait until July that more unbearable.
  • Mcgruff
Theyre more epic because the books are getting more epic. love it
  • gryffin
wow...got tingles in my back...so epic...espically the music
  • MrMad2001
The Books get much more epic as they go along, so I assume the movies will too. I fear that like the last two movies, this movie wont live up to how epic the books are. The last movie felt like they tried to add so much into it, that it fell flat for me. POA is the only one that truly worked really well for me. I will be there to watch this one though.
  • yeah the title cue is amazing and dark, but that's the whole point of the story. Harry isn't a kid anymore, he's becoming a man and... yeah you get the point.

    it looks excellent.
  • Blake Brown
is this going to be attached to quantum of solace?
  • Mo-Mo
having read a few spoilers from the advance screening a month ago (i won't post any here), i'm not too excited about the movie. i truly hope that they fix one of the things i read, because its one of my favorite moments from the entire book series. anyway, i loved the book, even if seemed like more of a backstory for "Deathly Hallows". they definitely put Quiditch back in because of the lack of any other type of action (save the last few chapters) throughout the story, and not because we want to see more of Ron.

also, the humor seems out of place in the trailer. sure, it may make a little more sense in the film (it is a children's book after all), but it just seems out of context and awkward in the trailer.
  • Ace and Jocelyn
    so ace
  • Mo-Mo, the book is like what? 700 pages... they can't stuff everything in a 2 hour and a half movie. It just won't work.
  • TheDaftPunk
I didn't think the trailer was that exciting, until the end at least. I agree with Roberto, I liked watching Harry Potter movies in the fall, I was pleasantly surprised when they announced the November release date.
  • zinkywinks
    Simply awesome
  • Nathan
if you think the Half Blood Prince looks bad ass give me a hell yeah!!!
  • Pill
I didn't really care for the book, but this looks great! I didn't bother finishing the Deathly Hallows, the story was plodding along and the books kind of headed downhill after the fourth.

The good thing about the films is that they hack out all the tedious parts and maintain the good ones.
  • mikey
wow that was fo freacking epicly awesome the best tariler i've seen i feeling HAPPY! for real i can't even stop smiling. can't fucking wait...
  • Mr. B
Looks like they're doing a good job at playing the two themes that make her books worth reading. Bitersweet darkness, and well-timed humor. I like that it looks more and more realworld (exterior shots and such) and less like a sound stage.
  • sarah
love the deep music with the title. sounds less mystic that before, more like a battle sound. i think the trailer luks gud cant wait!!!!!
  • Captain Molotov
    EPIC SHIT.

Every time I see a new Harry Potter trailer I remember how much I love these books and these movies.
  • Stacey
I can not wait for July to get here so I can get another fix of one of the best movie series of our time. I will only be sad to have the saga end. J.K. please write another part of this wonderful escape to magick!
  • Adam B.
like someone above said, the book wasn't necessarily my favorite.
probably my least favorite out of them all.
but this trailer makes it look pretty BA.
time to forget about this movie for another 8 months. :[

    @Pill:

do yourself a favor and finish DH.
especially the last few chapters, which I think -should- turn out great on the big screen.
  • Rory
    I loved that book
    Best one in the series
I reckon this and the next one will have to fight for a PG13 (or whatever it is in America) if you read the plot the deaths can be awful.
  • capitan885
I'm a little weary about this movie,Summer 09 release, still unsure about that. The trailer makes it look good. I was really let down by the last one. It was boring I thought. Half Blood Prince was good. It didn't go on and on like Order did. I'll probably go see it though just because I've seen them all. Really my favorite movie has been Prisoner of Azakaban. Fall Harry Potter movies are much better anyway
  • 790
Let's not forget the "Bite the Hand that feeds us, boycott of Potter opening weekend 2009"

Resistance starts here with this new trailer ,!!!
Resist opening weekend, bite back !!!
  • Chelsea
I still think the first two were the only ones that cared about sticking to the books the right way.
But I've accepted the ones after that enough to own them. And watch them repeatedly.
And I'm usually not that big of a "OMG THIS DIDN'T MATCH THE BOOK" kind of person.
I just think after the first two, they cut book content and just added fluff.
Hopefully there will be less fluff this time.
I'm feeling a little more hopeful about the humor in this one. Inappropriate for the trailer, but it looks like it will be good for the entire movie.
  • Meli
Warner Brothers is truly evil! A week before the original movie opening they give us a brand new trailer! Which is awesome!

Thanks Warners for re-opening the wound by showing me what I have to wait till July to finally see!

It's hard not to admire that kind of evil....
  • thomas040
Why does the narrator say: "This year..."
as far as I have noticed July is not gonna come back within this year?
  • Jake Nelson
This looks spectacular, the HP movies only get better and better, more epic and epic. Sucks it's not coming out next week...:(
  • Panda
    awesome.
  • Kip
I coulda had this on friday...but now we get twilight...gag...
  • JP
Why is the LOST smoke monster attacking London?
  • Melissa
Whoever does the trailers for the Harry Potter movies is incredible. This looks AMAZING! Can't wait
  • Dylan
    @ Mo-Mo

The film also recieved excellent reviews pal.
  • Hooray, a few shots of the walking dead!
  • shedd
    @ Rory

I agree. I actually hope they don't get PG-13 because I don't know how, for example, they can pull off the Sectumsempra curse properly without receiving an R rating. At this point, in all honesty, the story is not meant for children. Everything following GOF has dark, adult themes that read very intense at times. And while The Dark Knight proved you can pull off dark, creepy and intense with PG-13, knowing the books, I don't see how it can be successfully done while still allowing for some of the curses and deaths that happen. I guess we will see though.
  • nick
well i gotta say i am happy with the trailer but it is not as FANTASTIC as i thought it would be. it doesnt feel like a FULL trailer it feels more like another teaser. I like the Order of the Phoenix theatrical trailer the best. The music on this one didnt get me pumped untill the very end title sequence. THAT WAS AMAZING!!! but idk it didnt feel like a complete trailer. i like trailer music to be in ur face with bass and music and shit like the order of the phoenix. i hope they come out with another trailer. cuz i want to see a full circle trailer rather than this. but i did like the shots of bellatrix. and why did they show the snape making the killing curse spell on the trailer!!! its spoiled. real potter fans know its the killing curse. but i like the trailer but could have been better....o and wats with the bridge thing? they kept that in but they cant keep in dumbledores funeral!!! it makes me mad.
  • Chris
    Epiiiiiiic.
  • Chelsea
    @ JP

Haha I didn't even think of that until you said it! I assume those are the Death Eaters, but good connection!
  • Alec
    Amazing...

My favorite shots *possible spoilers if you haven't read the books*

were not very long shots in the trailer at all. They were glimpses of Ginny and Harry about to kiss, which looked perfect, and Harry trying to fight off Inferi while Dumbledore was helpless on the ground.

This book was my favorite out of the series. I am going in with even lower expectations than last time so I can really enjoy it.
  • Mo-Mo
    @ Dylan

i never said it didn't get good reviews. i'm sure Yates is doing a great job with this one, as he did with "OotP". i merely pointed out that one very key part of the book (read: the final scene) had been changed (read: deleted), and it didn't look like that was going to be fixed. and i'm not your "pal", buddy.

    @ Angry Broomstick

i don't think any of us want to see an hour and a half HP flick. that would just suck. point out where i stated that i wanted to see that and i will gladly eat my words. again, i was just commenting on the final scene, which happens to be one of the most tragic/sad/amazing things i've ever read.
  • Ryan foley
This is the best trailer for a Harry Potter film I have ever seen. I hated the last film, but I have great hopes for this one. It looks epic. It looks creepy. It looks magical. And it looks fucking trippy. For the first time since Alfanso Cuaron helmed the Prisoner of Azkiban, I am exited for a Harry Potter film. Ryan_N_Foley@q.com
  • marz
kind of a kick in the nuts for them to be coming out with a new trailer as if the date hadn't changed.that's like saying oohhhh look how cool it's really going to be..o thats right.sorry but you'l have to wait a half a year to see it! thats why i hate seeing trailers to movies that get me pumped but i have to wait till next summer to see.but this is different because most of those movies are still in development where as this one is finished.
  • Dylan
    @ Mo-Mo

Yeah, I've read all the reviews, I already know what happens. And I'm not your "buddy".
