Sylvain White to Direct The Losers

Sylvain White, the director behind such ::cough:: classics ::cough:: as Stomp the Yard and I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer, is in final negotiations to direct adaptation of DC Comics Vertigo label comic book The Losers.

White is also attached to a big screen version of CastleVania and Frank Miller’s Ronin. How he’s been able to spin his success on Stomp the Yard into a career in developing comic book and video game film properties is beyond me.

In 2007, Peter Berg and James Vanderbilt wrote a script based on the comic book property for Tim Story (Fantastic Four). Joel Silver’s Dark Castle Entertainment is in talks to develop and finance the film adaptation.

The Losers was a war comic feature created in 1970, set during World War II. Later re-imagined set against the events surrounding the war on terror the Vertigo imprint version ran for 32 issues from 2003 to 2006.

Written by Andy Diggle and illustrated by Jock, The Losers tells the story of a former Special Forces team who were betrayed by their handler Max, and left for dead following the conclusion of their operation. The team were forced to regroup and enter on a mission of revenge against Max, who has been using the CIA for his own interests.

Bring back Peter Berg!! After seeing what he could do with the Rundown and the Kingdom, I want to see some insane action, like blowing up an oil refinery/missle silo. And he needs to redeem Hancock.

I read an interview with this guy way back when "...Last Summer" came out, and was actually really impressed with him, and his ideas on movie making. He knew what he was involved with on that movie and basically said "I want to be a director and somebody let me direct this movie." I haven't seen the movie, so I don't actually have a comment on his skill, but somebody thinks he's got talent based on those couple films, and his thoughts on film impressed me enough at the time that I recognize his name still. He's someone I'd like to see get a shot at interesting material like Ronin, before I dismiss a project upon seeing his name attached.

Ten years ago in 1972, a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire... The Losers

Sylvain White came from Propaganda Films, where David Fincher, Zach Synder, Michel Gondry, and Spike Jonze got their start.

However, he's been struggling to find himself a decent career in Hollywood. That's why I'm just curious if he is legit or not..
