Netflix Watch Instantly is now available for Mac users like myself. Last night I watched the first 10 episodes of 30 Rock while I did some last minute web work before my trip to London. I know the service doesn’t have a lot of movies, or even a lot of good movies, but I definitely see the potential. About 50 of the films on my 360 film-filled queue are available instantly. You have to Opt-In to the Mac Beta program, download and install Microsoft Silverlight. So if you’re on a Mac and have a Netflix subscription, go check it out!

  • ive been waiting for this for so long. awesomeness..

YES!!! I've been waiting a very long time for this as well. Thanks, Peter, for letting us know about this.

I think I might downgrade my Netflix subscription to 2-a-month now...

    @ peter

i've noticed lately that you love a lot of the same tv shows that i do, so i have to HIGHLY recomend 'Friday Night Lights' to you. it's absolutely phenomenal television. i started watching during season 2, off the recomendation of a friend, and i gotta say i am as emotionally invested with these characters as i am with the gang from LOST, smallville, and Dexter. no joke, i think you will really enjoy it, and it's definately worth 'queing' up on netflix.

this new directTV thing they have going on with season 3 is a little disappointing, but there are always ways to see it before it returns to NBC in 09'... besides, at least it hasn't been cancelled. if you do watch it, let me know, i'd be really curious to hear what you think.

i disagree that there are not that many good movies on instant netflix.
i could highly recommend at least 150 of them. and many more to check out.
to have that much stuff for instant viewing is ballin as hell. of course they wont have everything, but ive been amazed at how much good stuff there is.

Yep, you have to have an Intel based Mac. So if you've actually had a Mac for awhile you are still fucked. Thanks for nothing Netflix.
  • Fak!
wow fuck that shit, intel based mac required.... bah off to ninja sister's laptop...

    The documentary selection is awesome
  • AWESOME.
  • Jamie
I also scratch my head when people bash the selection on Netflix instant view. As compared to... what exactly? IDGI what the reference point is. The new release section at Blockbuster? The crap on the movie channels? All the DVDs in the world? What?

I don't understand the rush to judge a service that comes absolutely free with your Netflix subscription.

For my taste, there are hundreds of movies on instant view that are must see movies.
  • Domino
@Jamie, Agreed. Plus its beta and they (Netflix) have to wait for the the studios AND the OS manufacturers to figure out a way handle DRM and licensing issues on multiple platforms, just like Apple/itunes did. Its a huge step and a commitment in the right direction that streaming will be a viable option in the long run.
