Slumdog Millionaire Trailer and Release Dates

Finally, Fox Searchlight has premiered the full trailer for Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire. I’ve said this before, this is one of my favorite movies of the year. You’ll leave the theater with a smile on your face and tears in your eyes.

But its a hard sell. The plot synopsis sounds more corny than anything else. A movie set around Who Wants to bBe a Millionaire? But this film is not what you think it is. It’s not about the game shows, it’s about the life of a boy living in the slums of India, and the love of a lifetime. I’ve seen the movie three times now. The last time I went to a press screening in San Francisco, I dragged a friend who normally wouldn’t have gone to this movie, especially based on the short synopsis. He went in blind knowing nothing about what he was about to see (he didn’t even know the title of the movie), and came out thinking it was the best movie of the year, for him, beating out The Dark Knight.

Watch the trailer in High Definition on Yahoo.com. I’ve included the listing of roll out release dates for the first 100 cities after the jump. Find out when you can see it in a theater near you.

anything with "Hoppipola" by Sigur Ros in it's trailer is an automatic win for me :) Looks promising enough though, I'd watch it.
  • Trystan
Even more so than the Dark Knight?
pretty big thing to say. gonna have to see this now.

i was hoping Benjamin Button would be this years best film, but by that trailer, i'm really impressed.
  • Arch Stanton
The Dark Knight was far from the second coming. It was a talky movie about Two Face but sold as a movie about the Joker, I still don't understand what the fuss is about. If you edit out Two Face, you might get a 90 minute classic, but as is I nearly fell asleep.

And "leaving the theater with tears in my eyes" is the worst reason ever to see a movie. If I want to cry, I'll look at my 401(k) statement, it's lost 30 percent this year. Which means I'll be a "slumdog" soon, whatever the hell that is supposed to mean.
  • ANGRY BROOMSTICK
    this movie looks AMAZING
  • Mcgruff
Speaking of Children of Men comparisons, anyone think that Sigur Ros song is the new Requiem For a Dream of movie trailer music
  • j
Sweet! It comes out in my area on Nov.12th!
  • I would of choosen the million dollars than the girl...
nah...but seriously, to each their own.
  • Ricky
Does Fox Searchlight not do free screenings anymore?
  • Trystan
    @ Arch Stanton

    you made me laugh XD

even if you're serious, some funny stuff.

p.s. and i know TDK wasn't the second coming, but still the best film this year has provided so far.
  • Looks good and undeserving of an R rating.
  • Eliza
Yay Chicago! I can't wait. Danny Boyle is my hero.
  • Captain Awesome
Damn, Arch Stanton is too hardcore for this website.

Way too manly. I bet he probably shoots guns in the air while he's on the toilet.
  • kfizz
Yah week 7 baby. After seeing that trailer this movie looks so good. I hope let the right one in comes here to.
  • Steven
I was fortunate enough to see the press screening in Boston two weeks ago. It was absolutely phenomenal. The cast, the shots, everything. And stick around for the credits.
  • evan_au
can anyone else see hoppipola becoming the new "requiem for a dream theme" (as in extremely over used throughout the magical world of trailers
  • Arch Stanton
    @ Trystan,

    I'm completely serious.

    @ Captain Awesome,

um, I'm not sure what you're talking about. I am extremely manly, but that had nothing to do with my comment...is it too "manly" to think that TDK was boring and falsely advertised? is it too "manly" to weep at my stock market losses?
  • noeway1122
looks awesome. i will trust anything that danny boyle touches though.

    peter-

do you have any idea when "let the right one in" is coming to arizona? i know theres a good chance that you dont but i just thought i would ask anyways since i am seriously dying to see it.
  • hipsterdood
i went to a boston screening last night and it was awesome. i expected good but it was much better than i thought it would be so def run to see this one
  • Nawid Ahrary
Vile82, that better not be a spoiler.
  • @ Arch Stanton

    you are priceless.
  • Mitch
Seriously... week 6. I was really hoping that I'd be able to see this in my town sooner, but I must admit, it's better than it not playing at all near me.

Oh, and for whomever questioned if FOX Searchlight did screenings anymore, they ARE doing a handful of Slumdog Millionaire showings. Here's the link, if you're interested.

    http://rsvp.foxsearchlight.com/RSVPSystem/scree...

And if that doesn't work, there is a link to it, off on the right-hand side, on the sites official website.

    HOPPIPOLLA

Didn't exactly sell me, but when it shows up in my multiplex (I'd assume around Christmas given that schedule), I'll be much more pressed to check it out than, say, Bedtime Stories or Benjamin Button.

Also anything with Sigur Ros is automatic win. I want Hoppipolla to be played at my funeral, it's one of the best songs ever written and composed.
  • Bull
Arch Stanton - stop talking about your 401k, no one gives a fuck about that or your opinions of The Dark Knight.
  • Arch Stanton
    @ Bull,

I was just pointing out reasons to cry. Movies aren't depressing enough to make me cry, and I'd never go see a movie for the purpose of crying, and I thought I'd give a frame of reference. Had no idea people were so sensitive on here. Good luck with that. And keep on blowing The Dark Knight, they won't work hard on the next one either, fanboy. I kinda thought "comment now!" meant "give opinions," guess I was wrong.
  • Bull
I though this was a forum for Slumdog Millionaire & not angry, meaningless rants . . . guess I was wrong.
  • authentic.imitation
I was skeptical about this picture until two film buff friends saw it at the Austin Film Festival and called it a masterpiece. Now I can't wait until it hits San Francisco.
  • BadWasabi
    Oh wow
  • Quan
Damn I have to wait until December 5 here in Atlanta.
  • ramon
what's the other song besides the sigur ros?
  • sniperwolf17
me thinks its Paper Plane by MIA
  • Dan
Looks great. I also agree that using Sigur Ros in a movie trailer is a brilliant move. As soon as that hits in the trailer, you feel it. Great idea about using at your funeral too. Anything Danny Boyle does, i'm there.
  • @Peter, I hope you ( and everyone here who's seen it) posted your review here: http://www.slumdogmicroblog.com

@Ricky, there's also a Free Screening schedule at the link above.
  • Kjell
Go see it, it was amazing
  • Patrick
ramon, its the Ting Tings, Great DJ. While MIA has a song in the movie its definitely not that one.
  • Wow, this guy's in a good mood.
