Angels and Demons Teaser Trailer

Sony has released the first teaser trailer for Ron Howard’s Da Vinci Code follow-up, Angels & Demons. Like any good teaser should, it sucks you, hits you with a twist, and leaves you wanting more. Leave your thoughts in the comments below.

The Da Vinci Code made over $750 million worldwide, despite largely negative reviews (25% on Rotten Tomatoes). It should be noted that the general public and particularly fans of the book seemed to enjoy it more (6.4 rating on imdb).

I’ve always found The Da Vinci Code to be extremely overrated. Angels & Demons is a far better and more interesting read in my opinion. It’s a classic race against time to find a hidden bomb in the Vatican and hunt down a serial killer in Rome. The reason why this story is more interesting to me is the multi-layered debate about which is to be trusted - science or religion. But like The Da Vinci Code, I’m not sure if the action in the story will translate well to the big screen. The San Francisco Chronicle called the book, “A Breathless Real-Time Adventure. Exciting, fast-paced, with an unusually high IQ.” You can read an excerpt from the novel on author Dan Brown’s website.

Angels & Demons is scheduled to hit theaters on May 15th 2009.

Looks awesome. Doesn't show much of the movie though. Lets hope there is more action less talking than Da Vinci
  • Bill
    so... this is happening

I thought Angels & Demons was the better book as well, but i've found that for most people whichever book they read first seems to be the one they've enjoyed the most.

I was disappointed in the Da Vinci Code, i thought the changes from the novel were unneeded and that Hank's character solved all the little clues way too easily, what took pages in the book seem to take 5 secs in the movie.

    Hopefully this movie is better.

I liked Da Vinci Code, it was an interesting B movie but very boring at times. I also didn't like the book which I found extremely boring, and I heard Angels and Demons is a better book. I agree with JOHN is needs a little more action, not full on explosions and blazing guns but at-least some exciting scenes. I think this will be good though.
  • Tom
Will this be a prequel or sequel on davinci code?
    is only tom hanks returning?
  • Arch Stanton
Um...maybe I'm dense, but where's the "twist" you speak of?

I'm seriously asking, I'm not being sarcastic or whatever...
  • j
Man I really think next SUMMER will be awesome! I mean there is STAR TREK, T4 (yuk PG-13 though!), that new Pixtar movie UP, PUBLIC ENEMIES will be amazing I bet, I think WOLVERINE will be cool even though it is at FOX, I think this will be good, and I have high hopes for DRAG ME TO HELL which should be good. I expect TRANSFORMERS 2 to suck and GI JOE.
  • pass...
  • Arch: Twist is all in POV. If you know nothing about the book's storyline, then the twist that the voice over is from an evil illuminati with villainous plans for the catholic church is a twist, is it not?
  • Arch Stanton
a twist it is! And yeah, I know nothing of this storyline...

I'm a fan of the Angel/Demon statue design on the poster, but I wish they would have used the title font (image?) presented on the cover of the book. The extremely cool ambigram on the cover of the book is what initially intrigued me, and led me to pick the book up when I found it on my parents' book shelf.

I suppose it might be a bit hard to read, though?

Hopefully we'll see it on a future poster.

    @j

Even is not summer but Watchmen and Inglourious Basterds too, heh.

TDC was decent but Ewan Mcgregor in the movie is great.
  • Kokushi
In the new movie of course not TDC

I agree that this book was better than the Da Vinci code. The only thing I didn't get was how it was so amazing that the Illuminati had made words that could be read from both sides? I mean, that isn't impossible. It seems like it could be tricky, maybe a little hard at best. But it's not a huge accomplishment.

I agree, this is Brown's best book. I suspect Brown is a really creepy guy. It's virtually impossible to find any info on him and he rarely, if ever, makes public appearances. Where the hell is his next book?
  • I have to comment and mention that I loved Angels and Demons the book, but thought that DaVinci Code book [and movie] was only ok. i was disappointed when they made the DVC movie first.
  • RobN
loved both books but i agree the whole religion vs science debate makes a much more interesting story

Awwh. The Columbia logo, stringy violins, and the sweeping shot of a city made me think of Spider-Man. But then there was no Spider-Man, but only Alec Baldwin's voice. All things considered, I think Spider-Man should make a special guest appearance in this film, it would be one heck of a twist.

The plot synopsis and trailer does look more exciting than the DaVinci Code though.

Oh yeah I forgot Inglorious Bastards comes out next June, that will amazing and WATCHMEN will be amazing but it isn't a summer movie which is a good thing because I dont think it would perform in summer as well as it will in MARCH.
  • Palmer
So no stupid haircut this time?
  • Looks like that poster slashfilm put up claiming to be a fake ended up being legit after all?
  • Bull
God the Da Vinci Code was so boring and terrible. It was literally one of the most unenjoyable movies I have had the misfortune of watching.
  • Bull
    This look better though.
  • Kyle
You wanna know why the Da Vinci Code movie sucked and why this one will suck? Look no further than Akiva Goldsman.

    The guy ruins adaptations. Period.

So many unnecessary changes in Da Vinci code and bombed the hell out of I am Legend so much so that it can hardly be called that.
  • matt
angels & demons was the better book and i think it will be the better movie...i hope
  • mkpmedia
I read the Da Vinci Code first but loved Angels and Demons waaaaay more.
  • jamie
the da vinci code movie was practically unwatchable

angels & demons and da vinci code were absolute garbage books

i do not have high hopes for this movie
  • Elissa
Ack. I haven't read the book and now I'm stuck wondering whether or not I should read it before or after seeing the movie...

I liked TDC (book), but felt it didn't translate well to the screen. And Tom Hanks' hair annoyed me.

But, Ewan McGregor playing a priest? I'll be there opening night!
  • Hernan
All ready said it in the "fake poster" article, I'm afraid of how good the adaptation will be if you have someone make and approve a poster without an ambigram, that shows that those persons never read the book. Hope I'm wrong because I love every dan brown book.
  • Liz
it looks like it could be an AWESOME movie, but i still dont like tom hanks as robert langdon ;( seriously ruined my imagination there. but i would still go to watch the sequel woot! cant wait :)
  • Kelly
It looks so good - really can't wait for it!! Read the book on hol this year loved it!!
  • P
I thought Da Vinci was excellent watch and this looks like its going to be another good film, plus my fav actor is in it, ewan mcgreggor
  • michelle
i like angels and demons much more than da vinci code, can't wait to see this movie.
  • konrad
its not a prequel or a sequel it is its own book
    but i love this book
the only reason why da vinci and angels and demons have tom hanks is probaly becuz they are both written by dan brown and he probaly likes tom hanks
  • konrad
    why dont you try it
plus back then in time people didnt know how to do that they thought it was demonish
  • konrad
its okay not many people can understand the books
  • konrad
i love this fuckin book its my favorite
  • pullarompayasweat
    your a total spastic.
angels and demons is a prequel, he refers to it in da vinci code, tom hanks plays Robert Langdon, the same guy, from both the books, so of course hes back.
  • Shiny
does the angel/demon statue used in the movie really exist in rome? if so does sumone know the name of the statue or how I can find out more about it?
  • Miguel
one of the trailer is St. Michael of the santangelo castel top
  • Amanda
