Friday The 13th Teaser Trailer

The teaser trailer for the Friday the 13th Remake/reboot is attached to SAW V. But you don’t have to sit through a SAW marathon tonight (like me) to be able to see it. The trailer is now online for your viewing pleasure.

Aside from the few seconds of Jason running at a woman with a machete, I really wasn’t impressed with the footage that premiered at the SCREAM 2008 Awards (if you haven’t seen that footage, click here). I think the problem is that I’m hoping for a film that calls back to the horror movies of my past, and not a reinvention of the horror films of my past. That said, this teaser trailer does an incredible job of getting me excited. But who knows, it could just be a great edit. Director Marcus Nispel was the man who did the 2003 Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake, which I actually enjoyed. If anything, this guy knows how to make a film look good. He especially knows how to play with light, which is evident in this trailer. Please share your thoughts in the comments below.

Check out the trailer in High Definition on MySpace. The movie hits theaters on Friday, February 13th 2009.

I know it is splitting hairs, but this seems to be more of a remake of Friday the 13th part 2, given the fact that Jason is actually in it.

I'll pass. I like the original just fine.
  • Ben
I hate to say it, but this actually looks good. You were right, it has some great lighting. I like the grainy voiceover, too. I'm gonna have to see it.
  • The film looks great. Visually anyway. I tend to be hesitant around remakes but I thought the Halloween one worked really well, and there is something to be said for exposing these films to a new generation. The originals hold up just fine but a lot of kid's I know are too pigheaded to even watch a movie that was made 25 years ago. Hopefully this will open them up to it a little.

Re-imaginings are good if they are done correctly. Rob Zombie to me, showed how to do it. I sure hope this is as good and watch-worthy as Zombie's Holloween. All in all it looks great.

    @ Joe

I see what you're saying but then 20 years from now, they'll be another remake of Friday the 13th, and so forth. Everythin gets old; doesn't mean that it's not good. But I do have to say that this teaser was good...don't like the 'hair' on Jason's head though..

I'm going to pay to see it.

I was very hesitant about Chainsaw when I saw the trailer and the fact that some early 20's pop actors were in it and Michael Bay was producing. I imagined an Abercrombie Chainsaw Massacre with quick cuts and a hard house/rock killer. After seeing it at the theater and listening to Nispel's commentary, I fully realized his intentions to modernize the film but staying very true to the source and feel of the original. I have very little doubt that he will be able to deliver the same with Friday.

That being said, I'm wary once again, of two things. 1.) Kane Hodder was passed up again for the role he helped to solidify. 2.) Jason is obviously the antagonist in this rendition and NOT his mother. I can understand the choice was mainstream as it would be hard to reimagine a series without its icon, but it would have been nice to go allll the way back to the original.

I had my doubts, but it looks pretty good.
the only thing that's lame is a February release date.
it would be ideal to release this in/around October.
  • moviegoer
Looks alright for a remake. I'll go see it.
  • @ Adam

It's amazing how few horror movies are released in October. Luckily a lot of DVDs are put on sale around this time, but it would be great to get away from the Trick R Treaters and catch some good horror flicks!
  • BloodyLis
Yeah, it'll be nice if I can watch this on Halloween..Fortunately, I got Saw V ( http://saw5.com/ ) and House by Ted Dekker ( http://housethemovie.net ) lined up with my schedule. I'll probably be watching again some classics in my collections..

Although is shows little (hence a teaser), it does look good.
    I'll see it . . . on DVD.

    WHY???????
    Jason is running, what??????
Jasdon has his hokey mask, this does not happen until part 3, SPOILERS* in the first his mum is athe killer and in he is only in it for about 3 seconds, and in part 2 he has a sheet with 1 eye cut out of it as a mask, it isnt 'til he steals the mask off that fat kid in part 3, oh well we shall wait and see, at least i still have the original...........and at least he isnt uber Jason

"Director Marcus Nispel was the man who did the 2003 Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake, which I actually enjoyed."

You're the first person I've heard admit that. The only good thing about it was Biel running around in a tight tank top.

Horrible remake. With a capital "whore".

    Few things
Jason Running. He always did in the first few Friday films, up until about part 6, Well maybe not full out run, but he definitely was a very fast mover. The walking thing was copied from Michael Myers in the later half of the series.
"Rob Zombie Halloween set the bar for horror remakes"
WHAT?! Not only did that completely piss all over the original film, it was poorly made with many mistakes, crappy camera work, and by the end of it I was falling asleep. If Friday turns out anything like that, ill slash my wrists.

Also, the film is a combination of the first three Friday films, meshing together the "best" elements.
Though I wasnt a fan of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake, this looks pretty good, for a Jason movie. After all, at their core, the Friday films arent very good to begin with, as much as I love them. But I think this has potential to be a very good edition to the series and thank god they got rid of all of Jasons zombie elements, he might actually have a chance to be kind of scary again.

    Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

is it just me but that bit where jason runs after that bird at the end of the trailer, really like the bit scene in hatchet where he runs after the old lady?

so far this reminds me of hatchet, or is it, hatchet reminded me of friday the 13th?
  • NO THANKS
That shot of Jason running is sick.
  • danny bell
    wwwwooooooooooooooowwwwwww........

    coolio

(and i'd like to point out that this is not a remake, but a re-boot)

(so the stupidly slow, hulking immortal jason will not be in it.....)

    ;-D
  • Happy Birthday Jason!...cut the cake not the campers.
  • Aeghast
I think it looks good. Hope the movie's good too
  • jake
ok first i would like to say that i was disappointed with the trailer from the Scream awards. it was just a cutdown version of the comic-con trailer

second is the fact that this trailer makes the film look kick-ass. maybe a little TOO kick-ass. have you ever seen a movie where the trailer for the film is five times better than the film itself (cough*Narnia*cough)

however, i loved the Texas Chainsaw Massacre and i think that if they put as much heart into F-13th as they did TCM, i will be pretty happy.
  • Frank
More trash that young kids will pay to see....unfortunately.
  • Captain Awesome
It's really fucking lame to name the guy as the, "Director of Texas Chainsaw Massacre" when he only did the remake...

    Tobe Hooper, is that you?
  • B-Ray'n
    good teaser, innit? :)
  • prop
pfft... they should remake Jason X. Now that was awesome /sarcasm...

more than anything it was the soundtrack/theme that gave me a feeling of nostalgia
  • Jack
i like the "produced by Michael Bay" credit, like anything he has produced turned to gold in any way.
  • greycolumbus
You know, Peter is right. This could an awesome chance for a reboot in terms of the slasher series as a whole. But with footage of 3 teenagers already available, I'm not too confident. I'd rather not have the teen angle played up yet again so the series can spiral into various locales until Jason returns to the ghetto. I'm guessing this movie will be nothing but gore and sex. So I wonder, why do we need this reboot if it's not bringing anything new to the table?
  • Goobity
@ Danny: (and i’d like to point out that this is not a remake, but a re-boot)"

It's the same damn thing. If you make a movie AGAIN, and don't change anything but the 'actors' and some of the other credits... *sigh*

    If it ain't broke, don't bother. s
  • tyler
i hate how jason runs. he never ran before right?
  • WEAK !!!! but will go to see for sure
  • The Second
    I call bullshit.

This looks weak. The VO of Jason's mother is terrible, nowhere near as convincing as the original film. They're purposely laying it on extra thick and that it isn't necessary for a movie like this. They're treating Jason like a phenom before you even know him. If this is a reboot, it should be true to the first. Unaware and simple.

Secondly, and more importantly...what the fuck is the old doll laying in the grass? I literally almost turned it off after that. Since when do fucking teenagers play with dolls at summer camp?

    Bullshit.
  • charles
There are a lot of stupid fucking comments on this trend. I can see a lot of you haven't even seen the original Friday the 13th movies.
  • ben
okay, halloween remaked suked really really bad its was bad. the texas remake was good. this friday remake might have potential but lets be honest its not going to be good. I will still see it but i won't pay for it.
  • Chirssy
