McG Updates Terminator Salvation: Post Production Time

McG has posted a new blog on the Terminator Salvation website. Here are the major take-aways:

  • Principal Photography has wrapped
  • Christian Bale and Sam Worthington have been sown early cuts and “they seem pleased with where the film is headed.”
  • “Our focus is on story and character, but it’s fun diving into the world of visual effects.”
  • “We want the patina of the machines to be dirty and heavy and perfectly realistic - that’s why we built so much practically with Stan Winston.”
  • On producing revolutionary effects like Terminator 2: “There’s one sequence in particular where we’re trying to achieve something that’s never been done before. I don’t want to talk about it because we haven’t been successful yet…”
  • Terminator 2 editor Conrad Buff is cutting the film: “It feels great to have his confidence in the movie. I take his opinion very seriously, he provides a daily litmus test for what is worthy of a Terminator film.”
  • About the story: “This is a story of two destinies colliding. Connor is part of a resistance comprised of the ethnicities that make up the globe. This film is so much more that just Los Angeles. It reflects the global crisis of man, all of man versus machine.”

I just hope the new trailer is cut better than the teaser...still looks and sounds better than T3
  • Jawmuncher
So long as it's better than 3
  • the TV show is better than T3... i have a good feeling about this one.
  • whatever
I remember when T3 was in production, back when I was young, it looked fantastic, a worthy successor. But what we got, well, it was shit. That's why I'm not expecting too much here.

I'm excited. T2 is in my top 5 movies of all time, and the fact that key people from it are working on this is a good sign.
  • Jamie
"they seem pleased with where the film is headed."

Um... they seemed... pleased? Hope they weren't just being polite.
  • Mike
I'm going to give the film a chance before having a fit like some fanboys are...

i use to be a staunch hater of this film, but it really seems like McG is doing all he can to give us a faithful and properly made terminator film. no BS, the guy has my ticket money.
  • My guess is that "effect that's never been done before" is the CG Arnold... which WAS done, successfully, in T3
  • Movie Reviewer Guy
Still think McG is a hack until proven otherwise.
  • i jus happened to catch T2 last nite on local cable channel... even after almost 17 years, the movie still has the appeal... but i dunno how are they gonna pull off with arnie not reprising the movie.

    NO ARNIE=NO TERMINATOR

    From Wordnet:

    "The adjective has one meaning:

    Meaning #1: sprinkled with seed
    Synonym: seeded"

Christian Bale and Sam Worthington have been SOWN early cuts and “they seem pleased with where the film is headed.”

    WTFBBQ?!?!?!
  • Mudassir Chapra
    Wow! Epic Fail on me!

I was referring to your use of the word sown. What the hell did you mean???

This is going to be a very different film than T2, no doubt. The nice thing about the earlier films is that they were set in present day, and only gave a small look at the future. Now that the future is going to be on full display, it's going to lose some of its appeal, I think.

Either way, hopefully they don't make it into some "racial diversity, liberalism is wonderful" sentiment movie. They've got to be careful with the whole "humanity is beautiful" stuff.

The tone will be the most difficult thing to get right.

I hate that people are hating on this guy for doing Charlie's Angels. But you know what, ill give the guy a chance. WHen i see the film, THEN I'LL RANK ON HIM!!!

    But i have faith.
  • Wonder what's is the "new-never-before" thing their talking about?
  • Kokushi
McG dont have a credibility because he directed 2 charlies angels movies, until i see t4 he always be a bad director.

Thats like saying i will respect the director of scooby 1 ,2 and bhc because he will direct the magneto movie for example, until he direct something he always be a hack.

"Wonder what’s is the “new-never-before” thing their talking about?"

It's a new technology that makes sequels suck less.

enthicities from around the globe, so its going to be a like tv commerical with one white guy one black guy one hispanic guy and one asian guy. and as always they leave out the indian dude.

yo mudassir chapra, do you know what a typo is? its obvious they meant to spell SHOWN. this must be your first time on /film cuz they do that all the time.
  • marz
i'll admit, charlie's angels was kinda sappy but some of his visual shots were nice.

Its weird, I'm actually excited to see a movie by McG, The teaser was awesome, and it looks good. At least he is being respectful to the brand and the characters, let's hope the studio doesn't intervene and reedit the movie to make it more family friendly. I really hope the movie is rated R and not PG 13 as the reports say.

"Wonder what’s is the “new-never-before” thing their talking about?"

Burying an epic franchise in less than 30 minutes. I heard there's a button for it on Avid systems now.

“This is a story of two destinies colliding. Connor is part of a resistance comprised of the ethnicities that make up the globe. This film is so much more that just Los Angeles. It reflects the global crisis of man, all of man versus machine.”

this better not mean that there are 2 leaders of Earth's resistance... Conner needs to be THE leader like all of the previous films and the TV show have been feeding us damnit

is it just me or does skynet need to re-evaluate their methods for ending mankind? You would think they would have some bio/chem programs in the works- why waste 1000s+ rounds of perfectly good munitions shooting one person, when you can just kill them off with a microbe?

I'm wondering when "the suck" will hit Terminator fans. Barring any definitive midichlorian moment, I'll put my money on 4 to 7 days after viewing. Most blogs will resemble Indy4 discussion, with the primary argument (against suck) being, "it is fun for what it is."

Whatever. I hope it is good, but I've got a lot of doubts.
