Watch 4 Minutes of the Opening of Bolt

Disney has released a new clip from the new computer animated movie Bolt. The almost 4 minute clip is from the film’s opening sequence.

In the movie, Bolt is a dog who is the star of an action television series which is part Lassie, part Mission: Impossible, but with the high octane direction of someone like Michael Bay. But Bolt doesn’t know he’s a television star, and instead thinks he is a dog infused with super abilities (the plot of the tv show). To get a real performance out of the dog, they stage the stunts and sequences with hidden cameras so that Bolt believes they’re real. This chase sequence shows you what Bolt’s television show is like. I’ve seen this clip four times at various different press events (this sometimes happens), but I can assure you that it’s 100 times cooler when experienced in Disney Digital 3D.

Watch the clip in High Definition on Apple.com. Bolt hits theaters on November 21st 2008.

Wow, man--it totally owns Matrix 2
  • CB
Damn-- that's actually pretty good, considering I wasn't expecting much after the retooling of Chris Sanders' version. Count me in for a ticket.
  • SushiNinja
Good action sequences, but my guess is, that's all you get for that. But Miley Cyrus' voice acting is appalling. She should keep to her "music."
  • GLuse
Wow that was actually pretty decent coming from Disney. I know the rest is not going to be that action packed but I'm gonna waste the $10 to see the rest.
  • Harry Lime
Very meh. But maybe this movie can convince more people of the vast potential of computer-animated action pictures.
  • Bill
miley's attrocious voice is a drawback, but i'll see this for the hamster.
  • Peter
Oh ma god, this closet is kinda nice. I'm not coming outta the closet.
  • NO THANKS
Dude(s) John Lassetter worked on this. I'm game.
  • In Chris Sander's version, I believe the dog was going to be a spy...that sounds lame and TOO cartoony.

KILLING?!?!?!?! IN A DISNEY MOVIE?!?!?!?! WHA WHA WHAT?!?!?!
  • LP
I didn't expect something this good. I hope the movie will exceed this though and Disney will have produced an 3D animated movie on par with Pixar's efforts.
  • Perry
Wow. Disney's Bolt actually looks kinda badass. And I believe that that is the first time I have, and last time I will, use the words "Disney" and "Badass" in the same sentence. Although I heard some things about Race to Witch Mountain...
  • Rockme
people hired by Disney to comment on this :p
  • cellchild
    kewl!
  • David
I was amazed at how it held me on the edge of my seat all the way through!!
And that doesn't happen a lot to me!
Really intense!!! I can't wait for the movie.
  • Joe
Eh. I like the animation on Bolt, and the idea's pretty interesting, but the human animation reminds me of the terrible Regal candy adverts they show before movies sandwiched in the ads (I worked there all summer, the ad's embedded in my mind.)

Too Pixar-lite. I'd only go if it was 3-D and I had a significant other with me.
  • Joe
And the last couple of comments above me (especially David) couldn't be more obvious plants if they tried. GG Disney, Pixar's efforts are still better than yours.

I loved it! I also work for Disney.

Seriously, this looks like crap. Why did they get Miley Cyrus to voice a FEMALE character? She sounds like a dude.
  • Raerth
Looks shiny and pretty, but would not expect much actual enjoyment. Guess I'm not the target market.
  • Sean
i hate disney right now. they arent anything they used to be 15 years ago. their biggest mistake was letting the weinstein brothers go for no particular reason. pixar unfortunately is stuck with them. last year i was at ILM and pixar stopped by and showed the animators and r&d personal a video of pixar's history. if u watch the video carefully and read what jobbs and the founders say carefully, they really hate disney.
  • Wow. That was hot.
  • Jim Krisvoy
I have seen the trailer in 3D, and it looked great! Not sure of how Disney is going to release this, but there is also a Disney produced animated short in 3D that is also worth the price of admission, so hope its' included with this release.
  • Adam
Ok, I know I'm probably digging too much into this, but given Disney's infamous past, does anyone else think that those helicopters look like giant dicks from the front? Besides that, this could be Disney's best non-Pixar since Emporer's New Groove.
  • zefster
Movie looks great! Can't wait for the 3D. I wonder if this will be a stand alone film or be the first of a trilogy.
  • Josh
Color me impressed. I'm not saying this is the best thing in the world, believe me (I have all confidence that this won't surpass Wall*E in my book), but it gave me a glimmer of hope that this may not be a steaming pile. I actually really wish I could see it in 3-D to get the full perspective of it.

Now on Miley Cyrus, I'm gonna wait to put a final judgement call on her VO for Penny. From what it sounds like in the stories I've read in the past, the character is one way in this show they produce and a completely different person otherwise. This may just be what's in the show (it's possible). I'll wait until I hear both sides of the character's voice before I make my call on her.

And can I just say, bravo to the sound designers? I LOVED the way this spot felt.

    Ok, I'm done now.
