Push Movie Trailer

The first trailer for Summit’s sci-fi thriller Push is now online. Footage for the film premiered at Comic Con in July, and was mocked by most everyone in attendance. The concept seemed kinda cool (if not a Heroes/X-Men rip-off) but the low budget effects left many people in laughter (ie “the big scream”).

There are special people in this world that have been born with psychic powers. In 1945, government agencies set up for psychic warfare, trying to turn those people with abilities into soldiers. After the war, governments began to set up divisions with agents trained to hunt them down like animals, test and categorize them. There are a bunch of different types of psychic abilities: A watcher can see the future, A mover is telekinetic, Sniffers who can see the history of an object, Shifts can temporarily change the shape of things, Wipers can wipe your memory, and pushers can put thoughts in other people’s heads. The divisions are trying to develop a drug which would allow normal people to develop psychic abilities, but apparently every test so far has been fatal. Cassie Holmes (Dakota Fanning), a watcher, teams with a young man named Nick Grant (Chris Evans), to take on a clandestine agency in a race against time the will determine the future of civilization.

Horrible dialogue, CW-level effects, but a semi-cool sci fi plot? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

Watch the trailer in High Definition on Apple. Push hits theaters on February 9th 2009.

that is a pretty cool concept... would work better as a comic and then anime though.
  • nik hernandez
is it me or is this the same plot as heroes
  • Anonymous
No it looks too similar to Jumper. Same thing...a man too carefree with his powers and an agent after him LOL.
  • Jon
This is VERY similar to the book The Firestarters by Stephen King... is it actually based on that book?
  • Daniel
    yawn
  • Christopher Marc
could be a decent DVD rental
  • It looks all right.
  • dave
    @ chris marc

yeah and redbox has free movie mondays.
  • Woody
    This is Heroes
    Damn Copy Cats
  • Eric B.
People with powers. Company tracking them down. Stopping them. People with powers trying to stop bad future

    Seems like Heroes
  • matt
    yawn....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
  • Fred
This has "Jumper" written all over it: good premise, terrible execution.
Also, Scanner rip off, but with more CGI for the MTV generation.
  • reed
How are they not sued for copyright infringement? Then again, how is heroes not sued for it as an X-Men rip off?
  • Geoffrey
You cannot copyright an idea, only specific execution.
  • bobbio
Except maybe this won't have 6 plot holes a minute and a crappy, extremely hokey storyline (like Heroes).
  • reed
And what's wrong with CW effects? Smallville does alright.
  • reed
    Touche, Bobbio. Touche.
  • YoungZe
Looks like a good DVD rental.
  • sonofa
There are too many haters in the world. Not every movie can be a Batman Begins. I welcome any new scifi. Even if it turns out not-so-great it will be time better spent than watching TV.
  • Chris Mackey
The 4400 did it first and a million times better.
  • prophecy_projectz
    This is so generic lol
  • mikle
    snorefest
  • McDandy
ok this looks pretty good...unfortunately heroes already called it...sry
  • Meli
Sure it's not an origingal story, but that's fine, I like stories like this. I think it looks like a decent matinee flick the kid and I can hit on a Sat or Sun.
  • daniel
The effects aren't that bad, I'll give it a wait and see.
  • GOOFRIP
    Nice. . F*ck Heroes. .

    Just kidding. .
  • Diego
    All it needs is Sylar.
  • Michael
Doesn't look so bad... I'll go and see it.
  • Casey
I miss Dakota Fanning, but it looks like I'll miss her even longer because I'm not seeing this...
  • Ratter
As previously mentioned, this does look to be next years 'Jumper'.

A really awesome idea, poor choice in casting (except for Djimon Hounsou (who is obviously following in Samuel L. Jacksons footsteps)) and its even being released around the same time.

Real shame being that the director brought us the awesome 'Lucky Number Slevin'.
  • kora
are you kidding? dakota such a good actress
  • Dakota has become quite a hottie....
  • Jack Donaghy
Did I miss something? Why was this set in Asia?
  • sideshowRaheem
The dialogue was horrendous but I don't see what's wrong with the effects.
  • Reggie
The cinematography looks like it belong to a romantic comedy. This is supposed to be a thriller-action movie. Couldn't they have made it look a little more moody?
  • does anyone know who did the music for the trailer?
  • dyy_blue
the premise looks awesomee the characters too...
i think the whole things looks cool but with a lot o things missing here and there but it does look quite decent!

and they said they wanted to make a trilogy out of it!

and dakota is really cute these days! she has grown a lot!

    i'll go watch this anytime!

seeing that thousands of movies have been made..some movies are bound to have somewhat the same plot. im sure there has been movies made where people have powers.. before x men even came out. just like every other movie with a dinosaur in it will be compared to jurrasic park.i was writting a book about a guy whose also an assassin but doesn't know it.then next thing i know richard greco comes out with 'my own worse enemy'.so u cant realy be mad at em for having a plot like that.truthfuly,i like movies with a supernatural twist so..ima give it a chance.as for the effects, some of them look alright but it doesnt come out till next year so they have time to clean things up.
  • Goobity
Great FX - You can almost still see the wires...!
  • What a shame...this didn't look terrible until I saw that Camellia Bell was in it. She is the absolute worst.
  • Mike D
My guess.... overblown action, whats plot?, more action, cardboard cut out characters, neat effects, then more action. What I wouldn't do for some decent sci-fi. I tire of the rollercoaster.
  • Brian
actually i think it's a pretty terrible, unoriginal, and undeveloped concept
  • Darrell
Heroes has already passed along 40+ episodes of this story and doesn't cost me a theatre ticket... I'll wait for DVD on this one.
  • Aaron
    Lost me at sniffer.

Interesting that big Hollywood movies get labeled with the critique that they have "horrible dialogue." It just underlines for me how vew people (i.e., how few executives) know how to read a script and assess a writer's talents. Because writing good dialogue is pretty easy for a talented screenwriter. Much easier than writing a great story. So if they have the money to hire a decent scribe, the dialogue should never stand out so badly (cf. Max Payne). Fine, a great story and concept can be ever-elusive. But dialogue that doesn't punish the eardrums is something that should be a given on a big movie. They simply needed somebody with an eye and an ear give it all a once over. Unforgiveable.

Wait how is this any worse than Death Race....I think its good popcorn flick when everyone is thinking OSCAR.
  • BFFredo
Save Dakota Fanning, save the world?

At least it's a movie. So it won't drag on for months to give you a lame ending.
  • Bryan
Looks like a better Heroes then the TV show Heroes.

Too bad they didn't have this be in the Jumper universe. Would be cool to continue with Jumper and incorporate more people with powers.
  • vanessa
Oh this movie is going to be really good! lol
  • hector m
    is i good
