The first trailer for Summit’s sci-fi thriller Push is now online. Footage for the film premiered at Comic Con in July, and was mocked by most everyone in attendance. The concept seemed kinda cool (if not a Heroes/X-Men rip-off) but the low budget effects left many people in laughter (ie “the big scream”).

There are special people in this world that have been born with psychic powers. In 1945, government agencies set up for psychic warfare, trying to turn those people with abilities into soldiers. After the war, governments began to set up divisions with agents trained to hunt them down like animals, test and categorize them. There are a bunch of different types of psychic abilities: A watcher can see the future, A mover is telekinetic, Sniffers who can see the history of an object, Shifts can temporarily change the shape of things, Wipers can wipe your memory, and pushers can put thoughts in other people’s heads. The divisions are trying to develop a drug which would allow normal people to develop psychic abilities, but apparently every test so far has been fatal. Cassie Holmes (Dakota Fanning), a watcher, teams with a young man named Nick Grant (Chris Evans), to take on a clandestine agency in a race against time the will determine the future of civilization.

Lets just start with saying that the plot isn't quite unfamiliar.
I know, it's an understatement.
But then again, I see some nice chances for this to be a nice movie.
I hope they keep the action raw and they will add no more one-liners than are in this trailer.

Whoa, this movie is like my new psychic suspense series (A Perfect Darkness)! I just saw the trailer and freaked. I'd come up with my concept before Heroes and have never watched it. Really, it's up to the creator to put a different spin on the concept. There are no new ideas, really. My series is about the offspring of the people in the gov't program and it's sexy. :) Push looks interesting, though. I'll have to check it out.

Yeah, any movie where the characters have superpowers is a direct copy of Heroes, AMIRITE AMIRITE?

OR MAYBE it's a copy of X-men, or a the Fantastic Four, because I can't stand any sci-fi movie that isn't a shitty TV series.

Too bad Heroes is awful, and at least they have at least one reasonable actor in this.

the thing that i find funny is that there are many here whom would complain, and yet most of you will still pony up your money to see it...

so, what is the point of complaining other than just spinning your wheels? don't like it? don't pay money to watch it... it's as simple as that and that's really the only thing that hollywood really cares about from you, the viewer.

Hmm.... it looks okay, It's really sad that so many sci-fi movies could have been really good but are killed by a bad script or special effects. I'll probably rent the movie once its out of theaters. It woud be really nice for some new ideas to come into the sci-fi/ fantasy world, I guess a lot has been do before though.

I actually like the movie versions better then comics, like X-Men. The first movie was pretty good. Comics went on for ever though. They should make more of those movies, pretty good plot line.

Its going to be a "B" rated movie were no one has to reload a gun, were every gun shot never hits the good guy, were at the end of it all the dialog was just terrible (just like my spelling) and finally you can were the good guys win after an epic fight the death, and has an " she'll be back " line after killing the bad guy.

Anyone crying "ripoff" obviously knows nothing of the history of film, or of pop-culture in general. Borrowed ideas are commonplace, it's how the system works. Check the history of film, even within the past few years, and you'll find plenty of other examples. And these days, of course, remakes are burning up money for no reason at all--90% of remakes are trash. I am embarassed about comic fans getting geeky and picayune, maybe it's all they have to do. Obsessiveness is an embarassment, lots of fan geeks have it, but it's easily overcome, if they'd only try. I don't feel (like that other person) that comic fans lack "artistic sensibilities" or are "stupid"--those are defenseless remarks that aren't based in reality, and the reality is typically the inverse of those assertions. However, they do tend toward certain compulsive behaviors. Regardless, best wishes with the movie.

In some cases, one wonders why $ millions would be spent on a property without establishing it in the pop-culture marketplace in some form prior to production. E.g.,if it were realized as a comic first, or a novel, there would be greater opportunity to expand the potential audience, establish that property as a viable option, and reach a largely pre-sold network of moviegoers. Instead, it's an uphill climb to promote a film based upon source material unfamiliar to filmgoers. And it makes the budget even more of a gamble.

I read a book called The Saint. The main character is a soldier from the Army that this agency trained to be an assassin. He could curve bullets and used his mind to set up his targets. Very interesting I wonder if this comes from that book

Yes, comic book fans are the group of people who railed against the idea of Wolverine not wearing yellow and blue in the X-Men move, and blew their tops over the Batman "SUV" several months before Batman Begins debuted. Because comic book fans are notoriously stupid and lacking in artistic sensibilities, I'll reserve judgment until I actually see something of significant duration and worthy of greater analysis.

Its really not soo bad, and ya, smallvile is doin a great job wit CW effects, it really is an old story plot, but atleast this movie wont have too many blank spots for us to w8 a week just to get more pissed off at another hole that should've been filled in the previous week.

COME ON PEOPLE!!! Stop being so negative and stop comparing this to Heroes or X-men. Comparing this movie to others is a waste, it seems like a cool movie and I'll definately be seeing it. but just saying its bad because of similarities to other movies or shows is crap. There will always be similarities with these kinds of movies because Superhero have been done so many times theres really nothing new left. (but if someone can find something new that would be great) Just watch the movie and decide by that not by anything else.

Personally I'm really looking forward to seeing this. I don't really care if its a same idea as something else, because a lot of movies are similiar to each other these days. So I'm just concerned with this movie and only this movie, and the cast as well. Like I said i'm going to see this cus it looks pretty badass, and also looking forward to seeing more from Camilla Belle cus she's awesome, and a hottie too.

ok... x-men is classic, but heroes is not exactly the same. The X-men heroes are "mutants" and often don't even resemble humans, while Heroes is a tv drama about PEOPLE with superhuman abilities. (typically one power per character, unlike many x-men). This movie has WAY too much in common with Heroes, mainly the bad futures, telekinetic main characters, and a guy whose eyes turn dead black. Real original.

Okay, these people have stolen our idea. I made something almost exactly like this except instead of people with telekinetic powers mine is with Elementals. Me and my friend started this idea back in 2007. They stole it. Something will happen, I guarantee it. Our idea is just a little based on Jumper or possibly Avatar. But it's still a completely different story!!! I've written 7 Chapters and people that have read it are hooked on it. Constantly asking me for the next Chapter. I may be only 14 and my friend is 16 but we are both smart and know people. We'll come out of hiding, just wait.(Sorry if I went all crazy, just that stuff like this gets me mad. Usually I don't get mad so it takes something big like this to do that).

I wish people could watch a movie just to have fun nowadays instead of ripping it apart. Some of you guys need to do yourselves a favor and just try to watch a movie without judging it from a short trailer. Ya know, enjoy yourselves. Its the whole point.

Hero's isn't a unique as you think. The whole "people with special powers being chased by a quasi-government agency" plot has been around for a very long time. Sometimes the gov'mint is the good guys, sometimes the mutants are the good guys. Just some of the recent incarnations of this plot:
"Prey" circa 1998
"Dark Angel" circa 2000
"Threshold" circa 2005
"The 4400" circa 2004
And it goes way back further than that.

good concept... in fact.. so good of a concept its been done before... about a hundred times before. Born with powers, government tracking/hunting them, good guys win, bad guys lose/die, hot girl ends up with pretty boy. On the good side, i've been impressed with chris evens as an actor but i wish he would get away from the superhero genre. Camilla Belle is my dream girl but she also needs to get away from the good girl/bad past hero's girlfriend thing. As stated before, looks like a good rental. Not sure if worth the theater money though.

It looks like a variation on 'Heroes'. I'm not sure about Chris Evans as lead.. should have gone with someone who looks like they could do the things it looks like Evans will be doing in this moving. He looks more like a chick flick kinda guy.

Either way, i'm sure i'll rent it.
