MacHeads Movie Trailer

Imagine a documentary about the Apple fanatics. Think Trekies meets Mac. Kobi Shely’s MacHeads is that movie. The film takes a look at some of the fascinating characters that make up the Macintosh community. Check out the trailer below.

  • People may disagree with me but i think LSD = Steve Jobs' Success
  • Dr. Acula
I immediately regret buying a Mac.

How are all these bum-ass hippies able to afford Apple products??
  • I will be front and center for this one!!
  • Blackstar
OK, I'm a big Apple and Mac user. Have been for almost 2 decades. Have even been to the MacWorld Expo in NY in 2001.... and even I'M frightened by what I just watched. O.o

Except the woman who does not sleep with Windows users; that's just good taste. :D
  • YoungZe
I gotta work with this ... things and i gotta say they are pretty much useless for people who like to have high compatibility. It's so funny that every Mac user thinks of him to be something better than the usual PC user. It's completely style over substance.

Ask someone why he or she (usually she) buys a Mac instead of a PC. "It has such a nice design, bla bla bla." Eh, Duh. So in the end you know nothing about computers don't you? This is why i think Macs are just for lazy people who want to use computers but don't want to know anything about them.

You spend twice as much money on a Mac and can't do shit with it, no support of third-party programs, no videogames, no nothing. For what? Better Design? You can use design-programs for windows if style is so important to you. It works? If it works why do I at my university always see people fighting with them, scream "It's not working again."? I NEVER had a day where i saw someone not having problems with them.

Don't get me wrong i'm not in love with PC. Hell no, all i'm saying is: There is no reason to sit on the high horse just because you use a cripple-system like Mac.

Anyway this trailer shows a lot and i'm not sure if it's about Mac or big bunch of freaks. Maybe i give it a rental. I expect it to be like King of Kong which was pretty good. However if it's to pro-mac i will not watch it.
  • Well said Dr. Acula and Youngze. My first roommate in the dorm a couple years ago was always having problems with his Mac. This vid pretty much exemplifies them as the hippies of the computer community. I don't consider myself to be much of a computer geek, but I can still understand how much better it is to be able to do what you want with your own computer the way I can with my PC. Especially for how much cheaper it is, by the way, why do people always say they look better? They're plain white and just look plain awful. Although I suppose that's just a personal taste.

    @ YoungZe

I guess your argument would be sound if it were 1999, but frankly it doesn't hold much water in today's computing world. I have been working in IT for a decade, now. I'm certified, know how to build PCs and troubleshoot the buggy software that is written for them. Working in a Windows environment for years got me so irritated and pissed off, I decided to switch to Mac. Honestly, it's such a superior platform. From an IT standpoint, the computers are powerful workhorses. From a now-aspiring visual effects student's view, they're the best computers to work on. The compatibility thing? Works with anything I've ever thrown at it (and with a caring Mac developing community, it actually has better software than most Windows applications I've used). My mom even uses them in her line of work as the real estate industry has adopted the Mac platform in a very loving manner. More and more industries are making the jump and frankly I think you're just pissed off!

Sorry man, but if you wrote that 10 years ago, I would agree with you 10-fold. However, today, your comment doesn't have any credibility.

P.S. They DO have great design, don't they? ;)
  • Chris Mackey
I think its funny that you guys are Mac bashing on a "FILM" site when over 90% of the computers used in the Film Industry are Macs.

I've been a Mac user since birth and rather enjoy the option of being able to use great software on the Mac side and then switch over to the PC side to play games.

Mac Users are hippies and yuppies and nerds and geeks. We're all inclusive and only dismissive to those of you who refuse to see any good side to Apple Inc.

Having worked on both Macs and PCs, for my uses, they're practically interchangeable. The only difference is that my Macs have lasted longer than my PC's. Yet I pay more for Mac products not even for their durability but more for the reasons Youngze points out: both the casings and the OS are prettier to look at and better designed. But you know what? Given two girls of relatively equal personality and brains, I'd rather go with the hotter one even if it means paying more for dates. Because I liked pretty things.
  • MacBill
I have used Macs since they came out. I know more than the average person about both Macs and PCs. I will always buy Macs as long as they continue to be the better Machine/OS on the market. This movie scares me a little - kind of flakey from the previews. I mean Star Trek was a great show, but I'm not a Trekkie.

I equate Mac vs PC to Honda vs. GM. In the case of the cars, both should get you where you are going, both can be comfortable and drivers of both think that they are driving a good if not great car. The GM has more aftermarket parts available, generally cheaper parts and can be serviced almost anywhere in North America. Honda has a few less parts available, those parts can be more expensive, and not every automotive technician is a Honda expert.

GMs are more prone to need repairs, their value depreciates quickly and they tend not to last as long. Hondas are less likely to need anything more than maintenance, hold their value for quite a long time and tend to last longer. I drive a Honda!

PCs have more available parts (Mac's use generally the same types of parts these days BTW), More people are familiar with PCs than Macs, and PCs generally don't last as long as Macs. The pricing when all things are considered (OS, basic programs included, equal hardware etc.) is a wash between the two. Just because Apple doesn't make a $500 computer, does not mean that they're more expensive, it just means they don't want that market. Any serious PC user wouldn't consider a $500 bargain for anything other than e-mail either! As for the programs - most things you need are available, better and in many instances cheaper on a Mac - MS Office anyone? As for games, buy a PS3 or X Box. As for OS - Vista vs. Leopard - need I say any more?

I'd just like to mention two points: good design makes use of simplicity of form, while great design simplifies form (creating easier understanding/usability) without simplifying function. Apple's products contain examples of both great design and just good design. It's true that sometimes functionality becomes limited (look up Wozniak's thoughts on the iPhone), but generally the functionality is enhanced by Apple's design. Microsoft is slowly beginning to realize this - design matters.

The second point I'd like to make is in response to YoungZe's remarks about limited uses. Final Cut Pro is a Mac-only application that is rapidly gaining grown in the world of professional post production (Zodiac, Coen Brothers, etc.). Shake is industry standard. In fact, Microsoft's latest add campaign (I'm a PC) was created with Adobe software running on Macs.

Personally, I don't really care what kind of computer someone uses - I'd just like to point out there is more to Apple than pretty cases and hippy users. I thought the 5000 attendees of WWDC were decidedly non-hippy and definitely not lazy users who don't know how their computers work.

    @ YoungZe

I think that the people you were watching were actually working on Vista. That system is completely broken since Windows was just trying to copy OSX and failed miserably. I'll admit, there are some insufferable Mac users out there, but there are also insufferable PC users who complain about Macs being overpriced when they just paid extra for graphics cards and everything else. People who buy Macs aren't buying them to play games. I've had my Mac for two years and have never had a significant problem with it. When I visit home and use my mom's PC? Completely different story. Macs aren't flawless, but mine has definitely been worth what I paid for it. And why don't you go watch Pixar animators use Macs. They don't seem to have any problems with Macs.
  • sophie
eh, I've had my mac for almost three years and it hasn't crashed once. my dad has one too and his is the same. whereas my sister, who has a PC, constantly has to restart hers. so I don't know why people think they're always crashing!
  • I have a pc at home and I work on a mac. All I have to say is I run windows/Linux/OSX on the same computer at the same time with no lag = gg!
  • YoungZe
Fine blilbo, but you ain't listening. Final Cut Pro is from Apple. It's not a third-party program.
  • hernan
OMG a mac Vs pc discution in /film? This is the most overrated (and created by mac and it's fan boys) discution in internet, mac users buy overpriced computers for the design an to stand out/show off when everyone knows you can do the same and more with a pc for half the price, pc people, now that you know how apple/mac fanboys look like and think with this trailer stop waisting time dicussing with them and just feel sorry for them.
  • Arch Stanton
It should be subtitled "People With Too Much Money Who Love Overpriced Products." God, I paid $600 for a new laptop far better than a mac. Not one crash or bug in a year. My friend's Mac just went to the "Genius Bar" at the mac store for the fifth time this year.
  • Brendan
I don't think I can handle such a concentrated dose of douchebaggery. Who wants to go see a 2 hour Apple advertisement?
  • Anomaly
The OS war is idiotic dribble and you're just wasting your time raging against the machine by posting about it. Both operating systems have their uses, stop spewing vitriol over the fact that more than one OS exists.

Also, this is a film site and macs are used a lot in the film industry, so spewing hatred at macs is certainly an odd thing to do here.
  • Captain Awesome
I am defined by the operating system I use!

    And @ thxplodr comment.

    haha, perfect.
  • YoungZe
    @downtownoul:

No, we only work with Macs at the university.

    @Mikey:

Sure i'm pissed off, i got to work with these things. It's like using a wheelchair, while having the ability to walk. People who do that are lazy. You said it yourself: "Working in a Windows environment for years got me so irritated and pissed off, I decided to switch to Mac." Guess you're the one who's really pissed off.

I expect more from a computer and Mac does not deliver it. Good for you if you are happy with less, but i'm not.
  • Sean
mac's are horrible. infact the company may go bankrupt soon if they arent careful with their new laptop release.
  • Mag
These people disgust me and make my skin crawl....Who cares what computer you use to reach information and to complete work!
  • Pentarix
Those people are nuts, but if they didn't pick the crazies, how interesting would the movie be?

I bought a MacBook Pro, I need it for school as I'm in a film program and do a lot of editing. It's a good computer, found it easy to use and hasn't given me any problems. I don't worship at the Apple temple or belong to any freak mac club, I also have a desktop PC (which I haven't turned on in awhile mind you) that I built myself.

When you boil it down, it's just a tool. You need it to do a task and hopefully it gets the job done. I used PC's all of my life until I bought a Mac last year so PC has a place in my heart. In the end, the argument about which one is better is stupid and it doesn't really matter. It's just a bunch of crap slapped together that will be obsolete before you know it, and you'll be paying out the ass all over again.

But the argument that Mac has compatibility issues and can't play games? That's just dumb and you'd really have to know nothing about Macs to make that statement.
  • jerry seinfeld
the mac is the barack obama of computers.

    there, i said it.

oh, and i own a mac. cuz it makes me feel good without really doing anything, less guilty, and slightly superior to those who don't.

    JS
  • Hahahahaha, well put Jerry.
  • Shaun
    @YoungZe

Have you been living under a rock? On the Moon?

Dude, your a shining example of someone who has no clue, and I thank you for being that guy.
