VOTD: Hayden Panettiere For John McCain

Hayden Panettiere For John McCain

The Pitch: Heroes star Hayden Panettiere shows her support for John McCain.

“Hi, I’m Hayden Panettiere, and I’m hot enough that I know I have your attention for at least 30 seconds. There are three things I think all citizens should do: Smoke cigarettes, vote for John McCain, and don’t wear a seat belt. A vote for McCain is a vote against change. He’ll keep tax breaks for the rich, start another war, and we’ll all probably die. He’s just like George Bush, except older and with a worse temper. Let’s vote for McCain and stay the course. Don’t switch horses midstream. Get an older horse that will take 12 years to cross that stream, ‘cause he’s old. John McCain, he’s had affairs with lobbyists, so you’ll get f**ked, and he’ll get f**ked. Everybody wins. Nobody f**ks with McCain.”

    yawn.....

I don't like Palin and im still on the fence with who im gonna vote for this coming election, I really like McCain as a person, but to attack him and be a celebrity is so cliche.
  • Oh Hayden. You and your professional acting skills! I guess I'll vote McCain now, and it's all because of your great persuasion abilities...

...she's good to look at, but really needs to learn to act. I support Obama, but I don't support lame jokes...
  • Jake Nelson
    jesus she's hot

    fuck mccain
  • Windmillninja
Celebrities: Using their fame to talk about shit they know nothing about in front of a lot of people since 1970.

"A vote for McCain is a vote against change. He’ll keep tax breaks for the rich, start another war, and we’ll all probably die."

    hahaha
  • de jota
Dang it. . .I finally found a problem with heroes.
  • Rosario
I will admit I do sometimes get annoyed when celebrities start talking politics *cough*Diddy*cough*, but that was hilarious.

    @Matt Bacon
Kinda lame jokes yeah but I think her acting the way she did just added to the humor of the vid, plus this is something I would expect from her.

But Im kinda bias because I love her on Heroes so yeah,
  • [R3D]
I'll say this, at least she didn't pull a Jane Fonda....
  • Captain Thunder
Damn...She is hot. She convinced me. ^_^
  • Actor8585
I had my mind made up a long time ago so it really didn't have an effect on my stand point.

But I did poop my pants laughing at this.
  • Reggie
    Everyone *should* smoke cigarettes.
  • R_McCall
Who is McCain? Hee hee hee!
  • Hey Peter!

It was great meeting you briefly at the W screening! I'm the intern from Focus Features and www.funnyordie.com. Thanks for posting this video and I look forward to helping you guys as much as I can (and vice versa!).
  • I like that one. I liked the Don't Watch Nicolas Cage movies a lot more but this was still pretty good.
  • TheSighGuy
Commenters: Using their computers to talk about shit they know nothing about in front of a lot of virtual people since 1980.
  • justsomeguy
Wow just her saying "fuck" is kinda hot. lol
  • igroveman
How politically neutral of her. All this kind of stuff just makes the left look even more idiotic... they act like 9/11 never happened and like the war was just for shits and giggles. We had enough reason to take out Saddam Hussein 20 years before 9/11 too. If people can't follow the extremely basic logic that is so readily available that a lot of these guys work together and are part of the same band, whether in name (Al Qaeda) or not, well, perhaps Western society needs to be destroyed anyway.
  • Aaron
She's a celebrity, not a journalist, so she's not under any obligation to be politically neutral. In fact, based on her work to prevent whaling, it shouldn't be a surprise to anyone that she would have strong political opinions.
  • Jens
Seriously people, come on. Like 85% of all who have written a comment doesn't seem to get that the video is a joke, nothing more.
I hate McCains politics, and would probably vote for Obama, but I wouldn't get pissed just because someone made a video like this "against" Obama. Have some sense of humor.
  • cib3k
I don't like Heroes anymore, I actually find Hayden annoying, but I still found the video pretty funny, mainly because it's true. So what if she's a celebrity?

Also, I'm not an american but I can't understand how in the current situation half of the people in the US would still vote republican. After all the recent republican presidents, after all that Bush did - I find it incredibly, I don't know, naive? Stupid? Retarded? And it's a shame that everything that happens in the US has global consequences. Nations should be more independent, in every way.
  • Josh
It seriously bugs the shit out of me when people complain about celebrities talking politics. Everybody talks politics and yet when the famous open there mouths it is decided they have no idea what they're talking about and and should stick to doing whatever it is they do. Guess what, EVERYONE has an opinion and anyone given the option of sharing with a large audience would rightly do so.
  • Thank you, Josh. I was going to post that too. Just because I'm a musician, an actor, a director, a famous-whatever, doesn't mean I"m not a damn citizen with some damn opinions. I imagine it's just opinion-envy. They have a bigger megaphone than the rest of us (and therefore, an occasional obligation to use it), and some people just can't stand it.
  • Dolores
What an immature little girl with no acting skills whatsoever. Your little video convinces no one. In fact, it might persuade people to vote for Senator McCain. I'm voting for McCain/Palin, so I encourage you to keep on making these videos. You sound so uneducated and uninformed.
  • Mr. Comedian
Josh and kelly lynch: You are both so completely wrong in your beliefs that it is staggering.

I'm shocked and disappointed that you would post something so far off-base from Slashfilm's purpose, Peter. We are so inundated with political nonsense in every corner of the media as it is... Why don't you just stick to keeping /film the "alternative movie news and review blog" that it is supposed to be, and if you think sludge like this is funny, stick on your personal blog. Or is this Hunter using Peter's account?

The people who own this blog network and its advertising need to know that you are getting paid to create posts like this one that contribute nothing. And they will.
  • Delgado
    ^For being a comedian you can't take a joke.

    Har.
  • Mikey M
    She is right!
Dont vote for an old geezer. Vote for change.
  • Mr. Comedian

With your name you should have obviously noted that the video was created by funnyordie.com, an awesome and popular website ran by some of the best comedians out there today. This is movie related in that this video is a continuing series of PSAs hosted by Hayden P that started out as an idea by probably your favorite producer out there today, Judd Apatow (who also directed the first PSA). The continuing series has been developed by Gary Sanchez Productions (Will Farrell and Adam McCay). So even if your view is different then Haydens, in no way should Slashfilm be held accountable for contributing 'nothing' when they are clearly continuing support of some of your and all of Slashfilms favorite actors, producers, and writers.
  • Jack
this isn't hilarious or anything but her dropping a few F bombs was surprising.
  • NO THANKS
I love the repub's in here, tearing her a new one for speaking out against probably the third worse thing to do in this world next to the Depression and Bush.

go on, vote for someone who's only running mate is a hockey mom from Alaska. It'd be lovely to see her as the President once Old Man Winters passes out.
  • Daniel
Everyone needs to lighten up a bit. If you felt strongly about a candidate and were a celebrity, I'm sure you would also try to explain why you're voting for that person. It doesn't mean you have to be influenced by what they say (in fact, you shouldn't - just look up their policies and vote on that.) But seriously, this video is funny whether you agree with Obama or McCain.
  • fanch
Anyway, Diebold will take care of your votes...
  • Stephen Pendergast
Ah class warfare, wealth envy. Play to Obama's strength. The rich have too much money... It's the job of government to take it away, winnow it through a bloated bureaucracy, and hand it out to the poor. Really smart thinking there, folks. Works wonders for those economic powerhouses in old Europe.

And, you do know that Barack is a chain smoker, right?
  • I hate it when Hollywood gets involved with politics. This was dumb. Basically, "Don't vote this guy because he's an old, mean guy."

    Stupid.
  • Captain Awesome
    Stephen Pendergast,

Mr. Obama gave up smoking before he began running for President.
  • Stephen Pendergast
Search for Obama smoking. After lying about quitting, he has since admitted to ABC and NBC that he has fallen off the non-smoking wagon. Campaign workers have recently admitted to his bumming of cigarettes.
  • Tina
I think I'll vote for Obama now that I know he's a smoker. Makes him more real, ya know...almost as real as Palin, but less white-trashy.
  • Brad
Come on, people, this is CLEARLY meant to be humorous. Get a sense of humor.
  • I guess if you're on the fence why not listen to a hot, just barely 19 year old for voting advice.

    Vic
  • Roberto
igroveman wins dumbest post, hands down.

Also, I don't care if either candidate smokes 1000 cigarettes a day. Well, I guess if McCain did it would actually make the idea of his presidency even scarier...if that is possible. And seriously, in case you haven't heard, quitting is real fucking hard.
  • Stephen Pendergast
Sounds as if Ms. Pantierreeiere looks down upon smokers. Kinda throws a wrench in her gears if her savior is a smoker.

And it's not that hard to quit, unless you have a weak mind.

And it's typical of libs to dismiss arguments against their position as "dumb." Libs have their heads figuratively in the sand concerning how much safer the US is now that Saddam's head is literally in the sand.

I have a new nomination for dumbest post.
  • NC-17forkids
My friend Jeremy just tattooed her back at his shop Broken Art in Silverlake. She is so fucking hot in person, and I got to see some side boob.
  • Roberto
And the dumbest of the dumb use terms like, "libs."
  • Cheese and crackers, I mean I know it's a humor site and all, but jeez that just seems a bit vindictive. I just got glimpses of Whoopi and ol' Barbara Streisand there, yikes. I already have my political beliefs and such, but all this made me want to do is not watch Heroes now, and I was actually considering starting to watch it. Yeah she's cute but she just comes off as a pretty immature jerk, maybe that's what she was going for.
  • Chase
Now I wish that guy would of made her disappear in a vortex...
  • Mag
Really people consider her Hot?? she like 4'9
  • Piper
I saw this on E News last night. I am an Independent/Libertarian and this literally turned my stomach. I was honestly floored at the lack of grace Ms. Pantierre showed here. I am not sure when it became socially acceptable for people to talk this way about other human beings. It's one thing to disagree with someone's political viewpoints and state facts and a totally separate thing to personnally attack someone (especially using such profanity). Also, if it is false that McCain had an affair (a nd I thought that rumor had already been dispelled completely), her one comment is slander. All I can say is that it really disappointed me to see this and I have lost a lot of respect for Ms. Pantierre. It seriously makes me never want to see another one of her movies ever again.
  • danny bell
    ahahahahahahahaa!

    that is truly hilarious!

    well done girlie!!

    ;-D
  • adam
Another uneducated celebrity trying hard to sound educated. Her acting is bad enough---keep it too yourself!!!

A vote for Hussien Obama is a vote for death!!!
  • Jack
Hayden.....if you want to go further in life....I would suggest you don't put this in your portfolio. Please!!!.....Are you so arrogant to think that people listen to what you have to say? You're young and obviously very ignorant and/or brainwashed to politics.
  • Joseph G
Hi, I’m Hayden Panettiere, and I’m hot enough that I know I have your attention for at least 30 seconds. There are three things I think all citizens should do: Smoke cigarettes, move in with someone twice your age, and don’t wear a seat belt. Dating and living with someone twice your age is a very smart thing to do, especially when you just turn 18. When you're a hot, young actress, no guy would ever want to take advantage of you. He's dating you because you are an intelligent girl, with so much talent to offer this world. He would never take advantage of the fact that you're a naive girl that who thinks she has intelligent world views. Milo is old, real old. And when we're together, you know he'll get f**ked, but in the end when he's done using me, I'll just be f**ked. Everybody wins. Right?
