On Halloween, two gals named Mina Karimi and Kara Suhey will attempt to recreate the legendary hijacked parade from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off down to the ’80s minutiae and extras like geriatric Miss Chicago contestants and bearded bankers. Cameron and his Red Wings jersey are already a lock. Under the Tumblr and moniker, Project Bueller, they are recruiting tens of thousands of participants and would like /Film readers residing in New York or visiting for the spooky holiday to join in.

After a bit of rescheduling, the epic shindig will go down as part of the 35th Village Halloween Parade. For more info, memorize the lyrics to The Beatles’s cover of “Twist and Shout” and then give them a shout at projectbueller at gmail. Their mission statement as emailed to /Film…

This project idea came to us as a tangible extension of our longtime ideal that you should follow your bliss and do what you truly feel like doing.  This means taking an active role in your own enjoyment and cultivating a creative mind, playful spirit, and performing the work you genuinely would like to do.  This is why Ferris’ character is so important to us.  He is the embodiment and inspiration of so many of our ideals.  We see too many people stifling their desires and truly believe that the world is a whole lot of fun when we let loose a bit and dance around in the streets.

See you at the parade!!!

John Hughes could not be reached for comment. An estimated two million spectators are expected this year. Any guys who have worn out their VHS copies of Timecop pretending that a nude Mia Sara was actually a grown-up Sloane Peterson: consider this requisite community service.

Discuss: Going? What’s the best parade in film history?

  • Jaybee U Tler
    how old are these girls, ten? how sad that Ferris Beuller is apparently super important and inspires there "so many" of their ideals.
  • Eric B.
    I am thinking about it

    So whats the origin? The above quote says it's to break loose, to have fun yadayadayadaartschoolcokeheadshit, but on their website it also says the reason for Project Bueller was because one of them bought a white leather jacket resembling Sloan's from the movie.
  • Ghost
    That seems like a weak idea. But whatever. Too bad it couldn't be done in the film's original location in Chicago.
  • how bout the parade from burton's batman?
  • joshmayhood
    I like the parade from Hard Rock Zombies the best.
  • Hunter Stephenson
    @joshmayhood

    What's the origin? Does everything need an "origin" these days?

    "Origin" = For Your Health

    @ Jaybee

    If they were 10, this would be for a really lame documentary, I'm sure.

    @ Nagroc

    Burton's Batman had an awesome parade. Killer balloons, lethal nitrous, free money and Prince. Good choice.

    Mr Darks Parade in Something wicked this way comes.

    i think the less attention they make about Ferris Bueller, the less likely "they" will want to make a sequel... or remake... i really hope this hype doesnt catch on. but wouldnt be the first time they trivialize the culture... wont be the last.

    Don't forget the parade in Animal House!

    (I don't like directing my response to specific people, so just read it and see if I'm responding to your idea or not):

    I think a white leather jacket is just a good enough reason as any for organizing an even like this.
    And I really don't think this is childish. I'm sure if some uber-Lord of the Rings or Godfather fans decided to reenact something from one of the movies you'd call it "impressive" or at the very least "geeky,"
    I think the most important thing about this is that they're doing it, and that they're actually pulling it off.

    I know I'd go if I was in the area.
  • That will be cool to see and possibly be apart of!

    NEW YORK?!

    Big time fail
  • CCO
    Who hates on Ferris Bueller parades? Honestly?
  • seriously. might as well be hating on the movie Rad while you're at it, asses.

    I'm there!!
