Last week the first photos of Robert Downey Jr as Sherlock Holmes appeared online. Now Just Jared has new photos from Guy Ritchie’s London set, giving us a first glimpse of Jude Law in costume as Dr. John H Watson, Holmes’ friend / assistant / biographer. Law’s look is pretty much what you would expect. No surprising Charlie Chaplin-like hats this time around. Head on over to Just Jared to see more.

Watson appeared in 52 of the 56 original short stories and all four novels. The film will be based on an upcoming comic book adaptation of the classic tales, and will feature a more active version of the famous detective.

Funny, I'd have pictured jude law as the perfect holmes. I always thought watson was older and less thin...

    @ Peter
is the Crowe as Moriarty true or not? Its not listed on IMDB, so thats why I'm asking.

Also, yes, everybody, we know they dont look like the classic descriptions of the characters. Its not happening so get over it.
  • May: I don't think so. All I'm sure of is that Mark Strong is the villain.

I think it looks very interesting, and you know, I'm glad they're not copying the "look" of the previous films but instead taking it from the books. I think Robert and Jude will make this film very interesting.
  • Andy
    Nice pedofile mustache

Hmmmm....so is Robert Downey Jr. laughing? In pain? Making funny faces? Other than that it's great when film makers decide to go against the usual standard on how characters look.
  • I too usually pictured someone that looked like Harry Potter's muggle uncle when I thought of Watson. But with Jude Law it'll be different and better. Probably a lot more active than the Watson of the books who was really just there for narration anyway.
  • Sari
haha Jude Law's hairline is precious.
  • He looks like Sherlock. WTF?
  • krackajap
I always pictured Watson as older...and fatter...and jolly.

Jude looks fantastic! That moustache does suit him. Robert Downey Jr. as Sherlock Holmes is completely miscast. Holmes was thin, angular and sharp. Downey looks sloppy, lazy and just all wrong. Shame. Jeremy Brett was the definitive Sherlock Holmes. I doubt anyone can do it better than he did. I can't wait to see this movie! it worries me that Guy Ritchie is directing. I hope it won't be collegiate and unneccesarily violent.
  • Harrison and Steve
looks good. ritchie is clearly going for the Rathbone/Bruce feel.

not really jazzed about rachel mcadams.
hope Guy serves it up with the style and speed he had "snatch"

cant wait to see the villain(s).
  • Pete (original)
i still think watson should be portly.
  • Yorel
Does anyone else think that Robert Downey Jr kinda looks like Huge Jackman in this picture?
  • Captain Awesome
Jude Law starring his two-car garage.
  • Amazing timing for the film considering the murder trial of the Sherlock Holmes author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle has just concluded down in Devon. He was accused of murdering his close friend Bertram Fletcher Robinson (BFR) - the guy who is credited with making Holmes the icon it is today. Before Hound of the Baskervilles Holmes was not popular, then it became a worldwide phenomenon. The biography of BFR has just come out which is well worth a read for Holmes fans.

Watson was an intelligent man of action. Read the books. He wasn't old or fat or stupid at all; even Holmes confessed he could never get his limits.
