Movie Trailer: David Goyer’s The Unborn

MTV has the first trailer for David Goyer’s upcoming supernatural thriller The Unborn. Looks a bit creepy but typical. Goyer may have been involved with crafting the stories for Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, but his directorial work (Blade: Trinity, The Invisible) has yet to impress me. Watch the trailer below and tell me what you think in the comments.

Official Plot Synopsis: “A young woman is pulled into a world of nightmares when a demonic spirit haunts her and threatens everyone she loves. Starring Odette Yustman, Meagan Good, Cam Gigandet and Gary Oldman, The Unborn is a thrilling tale of one woman’s survival as she fights a family curse and struggles to shut a doorway from beyond our world that has been pried open by someone who was never born.”

Watch the trailer in High Definition on MTV. The Unborn hits theaters on January 9th 2009.

    exorcisms? ghost children? monsters in walls? people crawling around like spiders? we've seen all this shit before -- except it made logical sense for those things to be there in the other movies.

  • This looks like another generic horror movie that follows the same generic plots as the rest of the horror movies coming out over the past several years. I'm more excited to see the sultry Odette half naked, but then again, who wouldn't?

    I like that Stringer Bell is in it. I'll pretty much watch him in anything. I thought that the trailer looked pretty good. We'll see if this beats out Mirrors as my favorite Michael Bay produced horror film of the year.
  • Maybe they'll explain this in the movie but, if this thing was unborn at the same time she was born, why is it in the shape of an eight year old while she is twentyish? Perhaps three real years is equal to one "unborn" year.

    Looks scary enough I suppose.

    this trailer reminds me of the Ring and those awful Grudge movies...and I'm sure that was the point...to steal the look of those films so that Goyer can seem edgy...I think the man should stick to writing because he ruined Blade Trinity which may have ended up great with an actual director.....anyone who would hire Triple H in his movie looses all my respect off the bat...I like Platinum Dunes for at least attempting a semi-original horror film, but Goyer was the wrong man for it...btw the ghost kid's fake lenses are really bad, they look like they got them from a Halloween costume shop

    Scary trailer. Every movies borrows - often liberally - from other movies. "Cliches"? What movie can't be branded with that iron? The maxim is "tell the same story but different". It looks like The Unborn just might do that successfully.

    As cliched as it appears, it still looks a lot better then what's being put out there. But then again that's just a trailer.

That maxim you quoted is a piece of shit and is the main reason why nothing original is made by Hollywood anymore -- it's a justification of playing it safe by sticking to formulaic guidelines and the stuff that has worked well in the past, rather than use innovation to generate something new. And even by your criteria, this movie looks like a big shitty lump of ALL the shit that's been done well in the past, mushed together into one indiscernible lump of over-polished pig slop.
