The Plot For Captain America?

The full plot synopsis for Marvel’s The First Avenger: Captain America has been included in the latest issue of Production Weekly:

“Born during the Great Depression, Steve Rogers grew up a frail youth in a poor family. Horrified by the newsreel footage of the Nazis in Europe, Rogers was inspired to enlist in the army. However, because of his frailty and sickness, he was rejected. Overhearing the boy’s earnest plea, General Chester Phillips offered Rogers the opportunity to take part in a special experiment… Operation: Rebirth. After weeks of tests, Rogers was at last administered the ‘Super-Soldier Serum’ and bombarded by ‘vita-rays.’ Steve Rogers emerged from the treatment with a body as perfect as a body can be and still be human. Rogers was then put through an intensive physical and tactical training program. Three months later, he was given his first assignment as Captain America. Armed with his indestructible shield and and battle savvy, Captain America has continued his war against evil both as a sentinel of liberty and leader of the Avengers.”

No big surprises. We already found out that the film would be set during World War II back in May. No director has been officially announced, but I’m sure they’re working on it. The First Avenger: Captain America will hit theaters on May 6th 2011, just two months before Marvel’s big screen superhero team-up The Avengers is set to hit theaters.

  • OMG It's Russell Crowe
So this doesn't take place in present day then right? I'm unfamiliar with the Capt America story, does he age normally? Im just wondering how this is going to fit in with the other marvel franchises.
  • nick

From what I can remember he ages normally. However in both the normal and "Ultimate" marvel universes (these movies seem more based on the "Ultimate" universe) Captain America falls into the North Atlantic in an attempt to stop the last remnants of the Nazis from launching some form of weapon and is frozen until revived in modern times.

The plot synopsis got me really excited for some reason. I just imagined Captain America bulldozing elegantly through a battlefield full of blood thirsty Nazi's. I'll keep any eye on this project.
  • JiveTurkey
    Steroid Superhero,lolz.
  • I love Captain America and of all the Marvel films coming out this one makes me the most nervous just because I would've give a crap if a THOR movie wasn't that good.
  • OMG It's Russell Crowe
    @pjhorrex

    Thanks for the info

HOw is this going to fit in with the whole avengers story line, I mean, with Iron Man already having a somewhat appearance of CA (Stark working on his Shield), how is the continuity going to be addressed? I just really hope I get some "Saving Private Ryan" type war scenes with captain america just destrrrrrroying some fools
  • markig
haha i love how that guy said "he'll keep an eye on it"- as if you have a choice, buddy, along with any marvel movie...

sounds right. i assume they'll freeze him as they do in his story, that way he'll be ready for the avengers movie. now, thor... how they fit him in is anybodys guess- any thor fans know about how that would/could work?
  • Krycek7o2
    @Robert
Never read the comics, eh? Well, he is going to get frozen at the end of the movie most likely.
  • Captain Awesome
Well the only way to fight an Aryan soldier is with an Aryan soldier!

That plot line is amazingly hokey. They could have come up with something a lot more imaginative and engaging.
  • Anyone here watch the deleted scenes on the Iron Man dvd.
It looks like Marvel shoots a ton of stuff, and then goes through and formats it best they can.

I'm confident there gonna pull off a kick ass Captain America film !
  • Johnny Boy
Marvel should rerelease Iron Man 1 & 2, and The Incredible Hulk and Thor that summer.

-the current comic 'wolverine: origins', deals with the cheesiness of cap's costume very well. the filmmakers would do right by looking into it.

-the continuity could be addressed pretty easy, cap freezes at the end of his film, & is found at the beginning of avengers. (then again, if they haven't met yet, why was stark building his shield already?)

-those marvel direct to video cartoons (ironman/avengers/dr strange/etc) share theme/tone of ironman & hulk live action films. they brought the avengers together fairly well in those, something similar could work in the film. yes they're kid freindly, but lets face it, so is fav's ironman, so was the hulk, and so too will be the avengers. i hoped cap & thor would be more like private ryan & LOTR, but that is just wishful thinking,

-avengers will be a massive success. i know it will not be more adult geared towards us - ala TDK & watchmen - but it will still be very fun to see the collected group of heroes, especially if the stars stay to their respective characters.

    hmmm....

I really wish they'd change the title to Captain America: The First Avenger

Glad they're keeping it in WW2. Can't believe the Avengers movie comes out 2 months later... that's just too much.
  • Agent J
I bet he loses his shield during the War and Stark re-builds it. Hmm...Interesting.
  • kevin
who do you guys think so play Capt America? i think the guy from madmen would be great
  • Agent J
I say Matt frakkin Damon will play Cap. *hi-fives anyone* Don't leave me hangin'
  • pjhorrex
    @kevin

Wow, the guy from Madmen is actually a great call for Cap. He certainly has the commanding voice I'm sure everyone that ever read a comic expects Steve Rodgers to have.
  • Anti-Septic
This guy you speak of from Madmen, is his name Jon Hamm (aka Don Draper) from the show? He doesnt look anything like Steve Rogers to me. He has no appeal as Cap in my eyes. Just as long as people quit mentioning Damon, Pitt, and Dicaprio I'll be happy. Dicaprio as Cap would be beyond ludicrous, its that girly voice. Damon and Pitt are way to short to play Cap, we are talking about a physical presence here. I would like to see Damon as Bucky! He could then lead into "The Winter Soldier" as seen in the current ongoing Captain America series. The Winter Soldier kicks major ass! It has ramifications for offshoot movie written all over it.

Others that have been mentioned for the Cap role are Mark Valley, he looks most like Cap but he is 44 years old now. I have seen Paul Walker mentioned as Cap, and he also has that all American look and build. Walker has done some good movies and also some really bad ones, so there is really mixed feelings about him. I like the idea myself. There are a myriad of other actors I have seen mentioned, but none that interest me so much.

    I guess the search continues
  • Dangerous Dave
God I hope they don't turn this movie into some social commentary about how sucky America is. Make Captain America right!
  • Ron
    EDWARD ZWICK for Captain America!
  • cokido
Iron Man is not building/working on Captain America's shield, that was just an easter egg for comic fans, even John F. (the director) confirmed this.

Thor will probably take place in Asgard with a Lord of the Rings feel and then at the end he'll get the charge of taking care of earth (where he takes on the persona of Donald Blake).

I hope Bucky is in the Cap movie, he's to vital in Cap's story, especially now that he has taken up the mantle of Captain America. He was an amazing villain as Winter Soldier. This would make for a nice emotional/dramatic enemy for a Cap sequel.
  • Chimaera
I'm wondering if it's too far-fetched to think that they (the government) already know Cap's location but have only kept him frozen in observation all these years and they are having Stark update/modify his shield in preparation for his release...
  • cokido
I don't think it's too far fetched, it would actually be pretty cool. However, I would assume S.H.E.I.L.D would be behind it but they don't make that kind of contact with Stark until the end of the movie.
  • I wish that they would somehow tie the Captain America story in with the whole Nazi paranormal stuff. Like Wolfenstein, or Hellboy. I think that would make for a great movie.
  • Deck Mackenzie
I'm all for Paul Walker as Cap. Mark Valley ("Keen Eddie", right?) was my 1st choice but he'd be too old by the time this started filming. Make it all washed out like "Private Ryan" but Cap's costume pops. Can you imagine a pitched D-Day battle with Cap leading the charge? Nazis pumping machine gun bullets into the shield? Cap throwing it at the bad guys???? I'm getting aroused just thinking about it (no homo). 100% Kirby style. Frankie Muniz would have been a hell of a Bucky Barnes circa "Agent Cody Banks" but he's probably too old now too.
  • Brandon
There is no reason to debate how Stark obtained Captain's sheild because the director of Iron Man said he just placed it there as a gag or an "easter egg", just to see if anyone noticed it. That will have nothing to do with the Captain America movie nor The Avengers Movie.
  • DarkBat57
Hopefully they will have a proven Director that will make these new Superhero movies worthy of watching! Please no cheesy Director like what's his name, that made the latter Batman movies with Kilmer and Clooney!(Joel Schumacher)
Superhero movies are made in this day and age for adults as well as for kids!
A good story line is always essential to make it work.Sure special effects and great costumes help but when you get down to the real thing that makes a movie work,it is to have a great story to keep the people interested! When you combine fantasy with some reality,it helps with the continuity of the flick.Too many movies depend on special effects and these days, people don't get awe stricken so easily anymore!
  • ????? ????? ????????, ?????, ? ?? ??? ??????????? ? ?????? ??????? ???? ?? ??????:)
  • Joey Marione
You guys are real losers speculating on issues you know nothing about. There was no shield in Iron Man so I'm not sure why you mention it. If the shield is indestructable in WWII, Stark wouldn't need to re-build in modern day you morons.
  • Jimmy P Niss
I always remember Captain America as really ripped with bulges galore. I hope they cast an actor who doesn't need to wear some phony codpiece to enhance his junk. Maybe they could cast an adult movie star?
  • Thomas Renshaw
McConaughey VS Unknown for CAPTAIN AMERICA Roll
There is something to be said about David vs Goliath especially in Hollywood.

When asked a year ago about CAPTAIN AMERICA, McCounaughey said had no idea he was Marvels choice. Now the Ghosts of Girlfriends Past wants to think more about it. But with that said of the every day movie and comic book fans. More than 26% want an unknown for the roll of Captain America.

Director Joe Johnston is looking at Aussie/American Action Actor, Stuntman, and former Pro Athlete TJ Austin. You can see him on IMDB along with McCounaughey. With having been in a hand full of television and movies this past year, Austin has made appearances in YES MAN, GI JOE Rise of Cobra (this summer), Warrior (this fall), 2012 (this summer), along with a recurring role on Young & the Restless.
