Last week we told you about George Romero’s new zombie movie (working title “Something of the Dead”) which is currently shooting in Canada. We only had a few details: The film is set on an island three weeks after the zombie outbreaks, and that underwater zombies will be featured. The official announcement in Variety gives us a better look at the plot of the film:

“Plot involves inhabitants of an isolated island off the North American coast who find their relatives rising from the dead to eat their kin. The leaders of the island feud over whether or not to kill their reanimated relatives or preserve them in hopes of finding a cure.”

We also have a full cast listing, which confirms that no a list stars are involved: Alan Van Sprang, Kenneth Welsh, Kathleen Munroe, Devon Bostick, Richard Fitzpatrick, Stefano Colacitti and Athena Karkanis. And AICN has a small batch of set photos, one of which can be seen above.

that's awesome that they're filming in Port Dover...I used to have a cottage there..lol

It actually sounds like a Stephen King short story from a while back that was part of an anthology honoring Night of the Living Dead. Romero and King are friends, and it would be really cool if this new movie were an adaptation of sorts.

i went to the movie shoot in port dover, pretty cool stuff. george was onsite directing but i didnt get the chance to see any zombies though. That thing about the S.K short story does sound really freaky though, i would love to see those two legends working together!!!!

That's exactly what I was going to say. I am a little skeptical though. Zombies are a little old hat. At least until Wrath of the Lich King drops and then we will all be swimming in zombies (the Scourge).
  • Um, can we be done with these?

How do you find a cure for death?
  • okay, I get that romero pretty much invented the zombie genre, but really? when is it okay to stop, Diary of the Dead come on.

If I may throw an alternative opinion out there:HELL YES THIS IS AWESOME NEWS I CANT WAIT FOR THIS. I personally hope George makes as many more zombie movies as he pleases, and I hope he continues to make them anyway he would like. I trust that he will deliver a movie that I will enjoy. The shittiest Ramero zombie movie trumps 75% of everything else that comes out anyway. In closing, I would also like to remind everyone that if you don't want to see a new Ramero zombie movie or any movie for that matter, you dont have too.

just think Amity Island (Jaws) covered in Zombies and you'll get what this movie will be like....
  • Funny Stuff: Alan Van Sprang was in Saw 3 while Devon Bostick was in Saw 4.

More Funny Stuff: Alan Van Sprang was also in "Diary" and "Land", as different characters each time.

Have the flying zombies ready for makeup. Like I said before zombies in space is the next stop on the crap-ride that is romero's film making.
