Mac Users To Watch Instantly on Netflix By Years End

I’ve been complaining about Netflix’s Watch Instantly feature’s lack of Mac compatibility for a while now. Even earlier this week when the company announced they had signed a deal to stream thousands of Starz movies on-demand, I was left angry that I wouldn’t be able to use the service, even though I’m paying for a membership. Good news Apple users, the official netflix blog says:

“We’ve been busy working getting a solution that will allow you to watch instantly on your Mac. So hang in there - we’ll have something for you by the end of the year.”

So just hang in there a couple months longer…

  • OMG It's Russell Crowe
That's great, but I'll be watching them from my 360 by then.

i have bootcamp so technically i should be able to watch already but you'd be amazed at how lazy i am.

Restarting into windows is a huge hassle for me because i leave so many programs open all the time.

this is good news for lazy people.
  • omg this makes me so happy

It's a DRM issue - they haven't had a suitable DRM platform on OS X. The new Mac solution will probably use Silverlight to get around this. I've tried running it through VMware but the video is too choppy.
  • This would definitely want me to go back to Netflix. If only it weren't for UNT's media library, which lets you check out DVDs for free...

  • This is fabulous news. I have sent numerous emails without a response to them about this.
