300 Prequel/Sequel to be The Battle of Plataea?

IESB uncovered new details about Zack Snyder’s 300 sequel/prequel. Apparently the film will take place between the Battle of Thermopylae and the Battle of Plataea. You remember, the battle that Dilios (the narrator) is at during the film’s final monologue. So the film is kinda, sorta, a prequel and a sequel, because it takes place in the one year window, and likely concludes with the Battle we saw at the conclusion of the first film.

According to Wikipedia, The Battle of Plataea was the final major battle of the Greco-Persian Wars in southern Greece. It took place in 479 BC between an alliance of the Greek city-states Sparta, Athens, Corinth, Megara and others against the Persians. The Greek to Persian ratio is given as 1:3 (”Good odds for any Greek”) with the Greek force numbering 40,000 against 120,000 Persians.

I’m not quite sure if that is cool or not. Either way, it will likely be a long while before the film even goes into production as Frank Miller must first write/draw the story first. But Snyder insists that he is definitely going to film it, if and when it is completed.

Wow. I can't believe this is actually being considered. Same for the Watchmen sequel. Then again they are f******* Warner Bros.

I'd rather see some pelopenession war stuff. That was a war between sparta and athens.

Actually, the decisive battle after Thermopylae is the Battle of Salamis, a naval fight between the combined Greek fleet led by the Athenians, and the larger Persian fleet (aided by Ionian Greeks).

I suppose 300-style triremes would be cool, but from a Hollywood point of view, it'd move focus from the proven success of the Spartans, so we instead have to talk about Plataea, which is more of a mop up battle against a demoralized, poorly supplied Persian army.

Maybe in the theme of Greeks vs. Persians, we can do Anabasis next.
  • If they had to do another "ancient greek war movie" (and I guess there are some number crunchers who are very adamant that they must given the great business 300 did theatrically and on DVD), i really hoped they would go with Xenophon's march of the 10,000.

We've seen Platea. We don't need to see it again. It's like the I Am Legend thing all over again - we don't need to see all that stuff that happened between the time jump.

Frank Miller wrote a pretty dumb comic book which got turned into a very pretty and very dumb movie and now we need a sequel? All I can say is MORE SHOUTING THIS TIME!!!
  • So does that mean King Leonidas didn't die at the end?
