Confessions of a Shopaholic Movie Trailer

Disney has released the first trailer for the big screen adaptation of Confessions of a Shopaholic. Isla Fisher stars as Rebecca Bloomwood, “a sweet and charming New York City girl who has a tiny, little problem that is rapidly turning into a big problem: she’s hopelessly addicted to shopping and drowning in a sea of debt.”

“While Rebecca has dreams of working for a top fashion magazine, she can’t quite get her foot in the door—that is, until she snags a job as an advice columnist for a new financial magazine published by the same company. Overnight, her column becomes hugely popular, turning her into an overnight celebrity. But when her compulsive shopping and growing debt issues threaten to destroy her love life and derail her career, she struggles to keep it all from spiraling out of control…and is ultimately forced to reevaluate what’s really important in life. Isla Fisher (“Wedding Crashers”) stars in the film from producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director P.J. Hogan (“My Best Friend’s Wedding”), based on the best-selling series of books by British author Sophie Kinsella.”

When I first heard about this project, a couple friends pitched the book at me as a “Devil Wears Prada”-like tale about shopping. Fisher has shown nothing but promise, and Prada ended up being one of those unexpected guilty pleasures. But I’m not impressed by the trailer for Shopaholic in the least. Probably because it doesn’t seem like anything beyond the typical chick flick. Am I wrong? Tell me what you think in the comments below!

Confessions of a Shopaholic hits theaters on February 13th 2009.

  • I really believe Isla Fisher has the potential to be one of the next big things in the business! I like her on screen ALOT!

My wife read all the Kinsella books, and she thinks that writing is pretty good with a cute fun edge. Isla Fisher (so cute!) is the perfect actor for this role and the trailer seems to indicate that.
Beside, it's a Bruckheimer produced film which means it's gonna all the right ingredients, which includes PJ Hogan. who is a capable director. So, given the fact that I might end up having to see this movie with wifey, I'm hopeful.
  • This is a mad chick flick!...and what's up with jerry bruckheimer cashing in on chick flicks? sounds like a financial smart move in the movie business or box-office bomb.
  • EM
I really enjoyed isla fisher in Defiantly Maybe. She has alot of potential, and defiantly has some screen presence . I have been keepin an eye on this movie, and saw this trailer a few weeks ago, and sadly i'm not impressed.

I do hope it turns into a smart witty flick, and not just a typical chick movie. i guess just wait and see.

She was really good in Wedding Crashers, not to mention sexy, but I'm probably not gonna be in the audience for this one.
  • GregoryV
I'm not going to lie, I'm secretly going to watch this film.
  • ANGRY BROOMSTICK!!!
i'm a female and i f--king hate chick flicks. i'm offended that Hollywood thinks we want to watch this kind of crap. not all of us females are shallow, materialistic and boy-obsessed. Get a grip, Hollywood.
  • Agent J
I laughed at the end of the trailer when she slapped that dude. Funny stuff that was.
  • Mr.Carl.Lee
Man... when does this movie come out? I think I'm secretly in love with Isla Fisher and should probably pull a date for cover.
  • Meli
I think this movie looks grating and shallow though I'm sure there is some type of 'message' at the end that will make everyone feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Isla may be pretty, but I find her annoying on screen.
I'm not into chic flicks, but once in a while one will catch my attention such as The Devil Wears Prada, which I enjoyed a lot.
  • Look, a movie ill never watch
  • dawn
Look, I like a good movie, chick or not. This one looks stupid.
  • Amanda
i happen to find this trailer pretty cute.
i myself have read the book and i am hoping it turns out well.
i watch my fair share of chick flicks and happen to get a good laugh out of most of them. but just because i like them, does not mean that im shallow or boy obsessed and so on...

chill out people and give credit where credit is due.
  • Book Fan
I hate chick flicks. I was surprised when I adored the book series. But you know what? In no way does the trailer look anything like the book. The point of the Shopaholic series was that Becky is NOT a dumb, materialistic girl.. She was a sweet character who wanted to help others..and she did so through shopping. This trailer makes her look stupid and is a disgrace to the books. I hope the actual movie is better.
Oh yeah, and don't compare it to The Devil Wears Prada, both the book and the movie were terrible.
  • Emilie
The series is amazing, I was always compared to the characters- I admit I have a shopping problem, but after seeing these previews- I would not want to be compared in ANY way. She is supposed to be British, somewhat naive but witty and pulls herself out of situations- they show her like some shopping addict moron with bad taste in bright colored shit!
  • Cassie
I absolutely love this series and can't wait to see the film. I hope the script didn't leave the book too much because it was fantastic.
  • Jai
I love this series, but the trailer doesn't depict the books. I'm quite disappointed as I was curious if they were going to make the movie(s) after the books. I will probably rent it when it comes to video just out of curiosity, but will not see it in the theatre.
  • Ruthie
The books are really funny, but the trailer makes me think the movie won't be much like the books at all. The book wasn't "War and Peace" or anything; I don't know why they felt the need to dumb it down.
  • Beth
Personally, I think this movie looks like an insult to chick flicks. It's so stupid. I mean, Isla Fisher's character is physically fighting over a pair of boots when she distracts the women by yelling about a sale somewhere??? REally. that would work? I doubt it. I have no interest in watching this movie. I think IF is a great actress, but I don't think she can rise above the inane silliness of this movie. Also, are we supposed to feel sympathy for her because she buys too much Prada? That's alot to ask for in this economy. People want to escape, not be shown how they've acted as well. I doubt she's any Carrie Bradshaw. I will definately skip this flick.

This looks like it will be sooooo funny! I am 15 and have read all the books. They keep me laughing and I fully intend to see this. I recomond it for you all, too!
