Stephen Colbert Teams Up With Spider-Man

As you might have heard, Stephen Colbert is running for president of the United States within the Marvel Comics Universe. You may have seen the political advertising in the background of some of your favorite comic books. Well now Marvel has a first look at Colbert’s 8-page crossover story in Amazing Spider-man #573. As much as I love Colbert, I hope to God that this storyline doesn’t get adapted into Spider-Man 4.

I don't know about that. It'd probably still be better than spiderman 3
  • aj
I don't know about that. I'm sure it would still be better than spiderman 3.
  • Actually, that might be better than Spider-Man 3.
  • Casey
I'll be at a comic book store the day it comes out, for sure.
  • The Spiderman comics suck because of things like this and people wonder why others have trouble regarding them as serious literature...
  • nick
and proud Americans we should all be...
  • FilmFreak
Is Marvel just looking for attention?

    @ Daniel
Serious literature? I don't think anyone ever considered Spiderman serious literature. Not that there aren't any literary acheivements in comics, because there are.
  • "I hope to God that this storyline doesn’t get adapted into Spider-Man 4."

    Couldn't be any worse than Spider-Man 3.

"Is Marvel just looking for attention?"

No. They're also looking to sell comics.

"The Spiderman comics suck because of things like this...."

Yes, it's just awful that an 8-page backup story in a comic book could be silly. Make that argument about the 'Clone Saga' and 'One More Day' and you may have a point.
  • @gah

Exactly my point, every time comics make a step forward there a little giggle books like this that come out and ruin it.
  • Wall•E Plays Pong
    I'd support that ticket.

Colbert show's a lotta love to Marvel. If you watch the show this is old news.
At least it's not McCain or Obama. Colbert is a funny guy. One of the few whose told the President to F-Himself face to face and pretty much got away with it.
  • kpong
    Colbert is also... A SKRULL!

The eight page of issue 5 of the crossover comic Secret Invasion has Mr America (along with a few others, notibly McCain, Obama and Steve Jobs among many others) as a Skrull posing as a sleeper cell among us humans.

    @Daniel:
Thats just dumb. Not all comics are watchmen or batman. Same thing could be said of novels, not all novels are LOTR.. some are goosebumps, not all movies are Godfather II.. some are Napoleon Dynamite. Its kinda retarded saying spiderman comics suck when its easily one of the most recognized comics in the world.

Get off the high-horse you twat.
  • A Better Class of Criminal
    God I love Colbert.
And yes, it would be better than Spiderman 3. Most things are better than Spiderman 3.

Still, I think it would be cooler if they put him in Iron Man 2...

    Colbert/Stark '08!
  • Daniel
    @ Panda

I'm not saying all Spiderman comics suck, I'm saying this Spiderman comic book sucks (and others like it). Also, even if all comic books aren't a "Watchmen" as you proclaim, then they shouldn't all strive to be that good? That sounds like a good sense of logic. I'm merely commenting on the fact that it's stuff like this that makes people hesitant to recognize comics as serious literature. I don't believe I've grouped myself with them quite yet.
