Notorious Teaser Trailer

The teaser trailer for Fox Searchlight’s Biggie Smalls biopic Notorious is exactly what you would expect. A lot of fast cuts to the old school music Biggie. Is there any chance this film might be good? Leave your comments below.

Official Plot Synopsis
: Notorious tells the story of the life of rapper Christopher Wallace a.k.a. The Notorious B.I.G.  The film stars multiple award winner Angela Bassett as Christopher’s mother Voletta Wallace, Derek Luke as Sean Combs, Anthony Mackie as Tupac Shakur and introducing Jamal Woolard as The Notorious B.I.G.  After the overwhelming response to a year long aggressive and active worldwide search, Jamal Woolard, a Brooklyn native, was selected to portray the infamous rapper.  Notorious is directed by George Tillman Jr.

In just a few short years, The Notorious B.I.G. rose from the streets of Brooklyn to become one of the most influential hip hop artists of all time.  B.I.G. was a gifted storyteller; his narratives about violent life on the streets were told with a gritty, objective realism that won him enormous respect and credibility.  His stories were universal and gave a voice to his generation.

Notorious hits theaters on January 16th 2009.

I have to say, that looked fantastic.
  • I think I'll just watch the Hitchcock 'Notorious' again instead.
  • Ryan
I'm a fan of rap and I think this will be a good movie.
  • Daniel
I've been following this one since the casting sessions, the trailer looks good. They've been puttin a lot of work into keeping it authentic.
  • Guest
    that actually looked pretty good.
  • South Texas Terror
The greatest rapper of all time.
  • Agent J
Derek Luke as Puffy? Nice. I'll check this shiznit out fo sho!
  • Antibodies
    2 hours of wheezing?
  • se7en
    I'd see it.

It will be laced with sex, violence, and filthy language. Quite fitting, I guess.
  • It's too soon. Not in a "we haven't gotten over the tragedy" sense, but in an "it's going to feel like a VH1 movie" sense. Ever seen Too Legit: the MC Hammer Story? Like that. Give it ten more years and you might get Jamie Foxx to put on 200lbs. for the role.
  • jj gonzo
Finally the world will know the life story
of the true KING of HIP HOP, you are
still missed among us BIGGIE but
your LEGACY lives on!!! TUPAC SUCKS!!!!
  • If they have 'Gimme the Loot' on the soundtrack I'll be there.
  • @AdamM I'm also worried this could come across like a VH1 "Movies that Rock" type feel.

The trailer shows promise and I'm interested to see how critics and people who aren't into hip-hop react to a hip-hop biopic.

    It's officially on my radar.
  • Captain Awesome
    Well damn...

That teaser was really good. Color me VERY interested in seeing this now. The kid and adult actors look just like him. I also heard the guy sounds just like him too.

    Please be good!
  • Eddie
Definitely looks interesting. I'm waiting to hear the actors talk though...I'm wondering how much they'll sound like the real people. They definitely look right though. The director seems to be doing a pretty good job so far.
  • matthew
I would like to be in a theatre full of black people when this trailer is shown. Not sure about the movie yet.
  • Mark Gonzales
    hit'em up!
  • Superman
    Fuck yeah I'm seeing this.
  • Tykittaa
A movie glorifying a criminal just because he put out some talentless so-called "music"?

    No thanks.
  • Ya Momma
    Your an ass clown faggot
  • Superman
Wow let's just get rid of every gangster movie ever made then pal.
  • Jack M.
I'm going to kick diddy in his nutsack if i ever meet him.
  • sideshowRaheem
No dialog in the trailer + January release date = no studio confidence
  • adamluo
    "Talentless?" That's just ignorant.
  • Ryan
Tykittaa, way to be close minded and ignorant. Just because you can't understand the struggles that someone like that might go through and the way a lot of those tragedies are expressed in hip-hop does not mean you should bash it. Since you clearly can not comprehend others' experiences and viewpoints on life you should quit commenting here.
  • Tykittaa
Please, name ONE contemporary rapper who actually has talent. Gangster rap is little more than a way for criminals to launder drug money, and it shows in the complete and utter lack of artistry in the god-awful noise they produce.

We've come a LONG way since the days of Public Enemy.
  • BigAuk
Biatch that is the American way ask Big Bush and the ones who signed the declaration that sheet was on Hemp. The art of story telling is never talentless you take away the music tracks and his shit is still entertaining accupella and I prefer Tupac so I ain't riding your just an ass. If its talentless you do better. Then STFU clown
  • Hat
I am so going to see this. BIGGGGIIE!!!!!
  • Captain Awesome
    lol @ Tykittaa

FUCK YAH DIS LOOKZ LIKE THE BEST MOVIE OF ALL TIME
  • Ryan
You're right, most RAPPERS these days don't have talent, all they can do is sell their crappy ringtone music. However, many hip-hop artists as they should be referred to are still around making good music, some of them are the same people who made some of the best hip-hop albums in the 90s.
  • Superman
Exactly. Don't judge an entire genre based on its crappy recent offerings. That's like saying all pop music is bad because of that faggy high school musical shit.
  • hiphop
Make a movie about Cool Herc, Run DMC the pioneers not the beginning of the over saturation and loss of creativity. Can you tell that trailer make me mad? That's Hollywood for you.
  • Captain Awesome
    hiphop,

    They'll get their due.
  • LOL @ Tykittaa being a lame ignorant racist. Have fun voting for McCain, getting drafted, and being a cultural ignoramus!
  • greycolumbus
    @ AdamM

I thought the VH1 biopic for Michael Jackson was better than I expected it to be.
  • greycolumbus
Pop isn't a genre of music.
  • jj gonzo
I WANT EAZY E/NWA the movie!!!!
  • Sean
    @ Tykittaa:

Don't be an ignorant fuckin idiot. thanks

oh, and contemporary with talent: Mos Def, Del, Lupe Fiasco, anyone from Wu, Common, Talib Kweli
  • Prophecy_Projectz
Im a huge Biggie Smalls fan but I gotta say this movie doesnt excite me in the bit. I was a bit worried when I heard reviews of the script said it was mediocre to terrible.
The trailer makes the film look like a made for TV movie and it speaks volumes that there's no dialouge in it whatsovever
I also wasnt excited about Jamal Woodward aka NY Mixtape rapper Gravy getting the role of playing Big neither. That dude is the typical dime-a-dozen NY mixtape attention whore who can be credited for the decline of young East Coast Hip Hop talent since mixtapes peeked. Everything about him from emulating and imitating Biggie and Jay-Z on his mixtape covers and songs (get off BKs nuts) to dissing legends just to get attention (Nas), to getting shot in the butt back in 06 for a publicity stunt reeks of the generic things these crack baby mixtape rappers.
So now the cat lucks up and gets the role of Big and now he's gonna be emulating him to further his career like Ja Rule did with 2pac in the early 2000's.

If anyone wants to see a great movie on that era, I reccomend picking up Tupac Resurrection the documentary movie brilliantly directed Lauren Lazin which was even nominated for best documentary at the Oscars in 2005. I'd also reccomend Nick Bloomfield's Tupac & Biggie documentary investigatng there deaths or documentaries like Rhyme and Reason (1997) or The Show (1995) which perfectly capture that renaissance true school Hip Hop era of the mid 90s and feature plenty of insight of Biggie when he was alive.

Also to chime on people keeping Hip Hop alive today: NaS(the legend, dont sleep on that new Untitled), Jay-Z, Common, The Game ( yeah I said it), The Cool Kids, Termanology, Lupe Fiasco, Saigon (What up Turtle!), Beanie Siegel, Mickey Factz Kidz In the Hall and Kanye West all FTW.

    One.
  • bktothefullest
    It's ALL GOOD BABY BABY!!!!!
  • Gee
This Shit Looks Fire Imma Be At Movie When This Comes Now Let Go Me Bump So Of That "Juicy"
  • Tykittaa
So because I realize that all rap past the 1980's is complete garbage and refusing to glorify a bunch of murdering, raping drug-dealers just because they put out a cd is racist? If anyone is close-minded it's you for suggesting such a thing. Many of my favorite musicians are African-Americans, the big difference is that they're not criminals, and they release actual MUSIC. And that McCain comment was WAY off base, as I'm a fervent Obama supporter.
  • evanz
Doesn't he sound a lot like Israel Kamakawiwo'ole? Scary.
  • Superman
Oh I forgot about Kanye. I don't think he even knows how to shoot a gun. You're promoting a stereotype and I guess seeking attention on here tittykaka for whatever reason. Not all rappers are about booty shaking and guns though shit like soulja boy doesn't help that argument. It's mostly crap, not all. I think compared to superman dat hoe, biggie's motzart so whatever man.
  • Tykittaa
Like trying to decide which turd smells worse, huh Superman?
  • South Texas Terror
Biggie wrote some of the best lyrics ever. Dont confuse him with the club jams and screwed up hooks that they overplay on the radio today. The only thing I remember about tupac ressurection was that guy trying to sell old tupac songs off a cassette. Taquita is just lookin for attention.
  • Sean
I list 5+ great modern rappers and he ignores it.

    How convenient. Idiot
  • GOOFRIP
Ahh, the hostility amongst the internet!

Anyway, this movie will still be interesting to watch, me being a Biggie Fan and all.
