Dark Knight Blu-Ray Details?

BluRay.com claims to have discovered new information about The Dark Knight’s two-disc blu-ray release. The first disc will include the movie and Gotham Discovered: The Creation of a Scene featurette. The second disc will include the following documentaries: “Batman Technology: Gadgets and Tools” (in HD), “Batman Unmasked: The Psychology of the Dark Knight” and “The World of Batman Seen Through Real Life Psychotherapy” (in HD), 6 clips from the Gotham Cable Premier’s newscast: “Tonight in Gotham”, plus art galleries on the Joker’s letters, conceptual art, posters, production stills, trailers, and TV spots. No word on if Nolan provided a commentary track (doubtful) or if the IMAX formatted footage will be included as a viewing option on the feature presentation. Please keep in mind, this is all unconfirmed

    cool
  • No commentary? Shame, it would have been pretty interesting to hear his train of thought during filming.

This sounds great if it is true, I just hope they dont rush this out and in turn not give Nolan a chance to provide a director commentary track.
  • NINJARTIST
Sans the HD segments, I hope most of these features end up on the regular DVDs.

    Lame.
A bunch of stupid theme "featurettes" and no additional scenes or outtakes or commentary. This movie has grossed over 500+ million and we don't get Lord of the Rings type bonus material. Thats total crap! I hope the official release is way better.
  • Captain Awesome
    NINJARTIST,

    They will.
  • to my knowledge, the special edition of memento is the only film nolan's done a commentary on. i think he just doesn't like doing them. i doubt the "rush" has anything to do with it.
  • Ben Franklin
In all honesty, as 'rushed' as this might seem to some, it would only take a day out Nolan's schedule to record it. So I think if it's not on there's it probably personal preference, as Sean Dailey said.

    /knight strikes again

however i wish there was commentary. it would be freakin awesome
  • Delta Assault
Honestly, I'd give my right nut for a commentary track. Oh well. =(

It was reported back in July that the Blu-Ray version WILL include the IMAX formatted footage.

"The Blu-ray, in particular, will be able to actually use the shifted aspect ratios as it appears on the IMAX screen because the 16:9 aspect ratio is sufficiently different from the 2:4 that you'll actually see a shift on the Blu-ray."

He continued, "The resolution on the Blu-ray is clear enough that you can actually see difference in grain structure and sharpness. So I think it will be quite spectacular."

If people would actually think about the movie instead of jumping on the nolan is god bandwagon, it really falls apart and isn't this brilliant masterpiece.
  • i'd really like to see alternate takes and LOTS of behind-the-scenes footage of Ledger as the Joker. it was clear they even used the IMAX cameras to film some of Ledger on the set (skateboarding around in full costume, apparently). you've got to include that stuff, as nuts as everyone went for that performance.
  • Oi Vey
Joel, you're so right Joel. NOT!!!!
  • Captain Awesome
    Joel,

You have shown me the error of my ways. I will be asking for my money back after seeing it 5 times in theatre.

    I'm drinking brain-bleach right now!
  • What I want more than anything in the world is an R-Rated Directors Cut.
  • Joel
Well it's your life, make of it whatever you choose. At the end of the day however, we'll still have really crisp slapdash editing, a terribly voiced batman who's hardly a factor in the movie, and the ridiculous rise and fall of two face among many other overlooked problems with the movie. I don't expect very level-headed responses of course, so I'm not surprised by the sarcasm I'm seeing.

"I don’t expect very level-headed responses of course, so I’m not surprised by the sarcasm I’m seeing."

Considering your original post sounds so "matter of fact". And left no real room for most anyone to take it seriously as a starting point of discussion. I wouldn't throw out the level-headed smarmy remarks just yet.

So you didn't like it. I loved it. It's that simple really.

We've had this conversation before and after it's release here on this website. Just go through the related links under the article.

To everyone complaining about no commentary and extras, keep in mind this is what some people said about the Batman Begins DVD as well and it seems like Nolan just doesnt do commentaries cause he feels everything on screen explains itself. Also I dont know if they are things cut out in a 2 and a half hour flick. Like BB I think he put everything in there.

    I NEED a commentary!
How else will I waste my precious time!?
    How I ask you!?

    ;)
  • Captain Awesome
    A Better Class of Criminal,

By watching the movie and the features :P

Unless you happen to have an IMAX projector and screen in your house, this won't make any difference.
  • A Better Class of Criminal
    @ Captain Awesome

    Good point.

Still... a commentary would be great.
  • Goldfoot
    @ Goobity

It will make a difference because, as Nolan said, the film will shift aspect ratios while you are watching it. Those scenes will look clearer than the rest of the movie because they were shot with higher resolution cameras. Sure those scenes won't fill a widescreen TV, but at least they are putting the better quality shots in the film.

    any deleted scenes???
    let's go! rack 'em up!!
  • Bull
Joel - thank you for your insightful commentary that failed to change my opinion of the movie. Now shut the fuck up.
  • TheDARKwizard

I would find it so disappointing if there are no deleted scenes. :( It's been changed so much I want to see the scenes that they were bullied into taking out!
