Slumdog Millionaire on November 19th

Fox Searchlight has decided to move the release of Danny Boyle’s film festival sensation Slumdog Millionaire up to Wednesday, November 19th. The film was originally set to bow on Friday, November 28th, a few days after Gus Van Sant’s Milk and The Road. Slumdog will now open a couple days before The Soloist and The Time Traveler’s Wife. This move could have also been made to give Slumdog more breathing room from Searchlight’s December platform release of Darren Aronofsky’s The Wrestler.

The Book is absolutely amazing and I'm a big Danny Boyle fan so i'm looking forward to this. However, it does look like the movie is a fair departure from the book, or at least the introduced love story and enhancing of Salim as the other orphan "brother" (not related but befriended at the orphanage) is not necessarily a negative.

The structure of the book allows for quite a bit of interpolation and extension without ruining the heart of the story. Unless he adds a random crazed serial killing monster at the end of the 3rd act, i expect it to be quite true to the book.

And with the huge buzz it's garnered so far, i'm there opening weekend.

I hope this releases close to me. Don't get too much variety in Kansas.
  • Sigh. Peter, Peter, Peter. You got me excited then crushed my dreams, since I live in a place that I KNOW won't get it until it goes wide.
  • Time Traveler's Wife: November 7th in NY/LA, Nov 21 limited theaters, and Christmas Wide release
  • Jonathan: IMDB has the NY/LA release of Time Travelers Wife listed as November. Not sure if this is still the case. But you are right, the wide release isn't until christmas.
  • p.s. Cannot wait for Slumdog. Simply cannot wait.
  • Since when is The Time Traveller's Wife opening in November? I'm pretty sure that was changed a while ago and that it's going to be a Christmas release.
