Director Neil Burger (The Illusionist) has confirmed to Coming Soon that he’ll begin shooting Dark Fields in NYC with Shia LaBeouf this winter, making it the next film for the actor after Transformers 2. The project sounds pretty cool and seems to be flying under the radar, so if you’re curious, let us point you to our report from April, in which we referred to it as Adderall: The Movie.

Based on Alan Glynn’s 2002 thriller of the same name, LaBeouf will play a young man who ascends the ranks of the Big Apple social elite thanks to a “smart pill,” one that has addictive side effects and dangerous consequences. There’s also an epic Big Pharma conspiracy in the book. Leslie Dixon (Loverboy, The Birds remake) adapted the script. Hat tip to Best Week Ever for milking this photo of LaBeouf all week long, one that’s particularly fitting for this post given Dark Fields‘ subject matter. And is it just us, or did Shia backlash go full-tilt this week?

I reflexively roll my eyes or grown at the sight or sound of Shias name, guess I need to accept I won't be able to avoid him at the cinema for a long time into the future. I though The Illusionist was nice, think this could be an interesting follow up for Burger. Maybe by the time it comes out I'll have lightened up and maybe can call this Dark Fields or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love LeBeouf.
  • This would proove to be not much of a stretch for Shia since he looks like he is on drugs. Not that there's anything wrong with that but it's just an observation.

    Question:

What did Shia LaBeouf do to make people hate him?

I think I must've slept through that week.

Sounds Great! I love Neil Hamburger!

when i first heard about this, i thought it'd be an excellent step for shia, to get away from the funny/anxious/young roles he's been frequenting. i think it'll give him a chance to show us his chops, and the story sounds awesome - kinda remids me of something we'd get from phillip k dick.

though i also remember that him & caruso were hoping he'd be able to use this winter to get some rest before Y: the last man starts early next year.

i like the kid, i think he's really good, and will only get better. i'd like to see him steer away from hooking up with caruso so often, because i think some legendary/better/risky directors could really open up some range things for him.

I have a theory: If you're overexposed, then you'll get a huge backlash. Sadly, I think the whole 'backlash' thing is getting old myself, as the internet tends to go 'all out and whinny' sometimes.

I like Shia.. He has an energy about him that will either ruin him or build him up to a ridiculous entity in the Hollywood circles.. You can't dismiss him at this point. I approve. He's great, committed, consistent.

Shia's all right, I'm just not excited about this because of Neil Burger. His Illusionist had great big yawning plot holes in it.

Shia is great, loved him in Transformers and Disturbia

shia's came a loooong way since i first saw him in charlie's angels:full throttle as the the kid on the dirt bike that the other kid was trying to kill.he was also good in constantine.im not sure either why people dont like him. i must have missed that memo to..and the one that said we have to hate micheal bay,. because i think bay creates amazing work and extreme acton and some of his camera shots make you say,how the hell did they do that.i guess people just dont like those who are overly successful at what they do.is it jealousy..envy?who knows, but what i do know is that if shia was really that bad,he wouldnt be so sought after.

Shias obviously very charismatic and likable and a hard fucking worker, thats why he keeps and will continue to keep getting roles. I just find him incredibly dull and one-dimensional. Maybe its a generational thing but I just never find him compelling.

Shia was horrible in IRobot. This project sounds lame and you would have to be on adderall to watch it.
