New Posters: Frank Miller’s The Spirit

UGO has two new posters for Frank Miller’s The Spirit. It’s amazing how well the marketing department at Lionsgate has been able to promote this movie. You would have no indication from any of the production photos, posters or trailers, that the film is nearly as horrible as the clips presented at Comic Con.

  • Christopher Marc
Finally decent posters from Lionsgate....a little late though
  • Elpizo
Frank Miller has become a parody of himself.
  • Jerry B Good
How is the sun setting in both horizons?
  • Joseph Fritzl
    this movie will be awful
  • Zaphoid
Why are there no bullet holes in his shadow?
  • Jetpackman89
Reason why there are two sunsets Jerry B Good, is because there is an explosion in the background of Mr. Jackson
  • Steelo
with a comic book dude directing this movie, you damn well better have good design

What about "I'm gonna kill you all kinds of dead"? I think that's some pretty good indication.
  • A.J.
ho hum. also known as meh.
  • Baron Von Cheddar
After comic book movies made all those leaps forward this summer with Iron Man & TDK, it appears Frank Miller & Sam Jackson are ready drag it back down again.

Sam, you look ridiculous in those Mickey Mouse gloves. It hurts me to see you clowning around on a movie poster as a character whose face was never seen in the original comics. I'm in serious doubt about your ability to pull off Nick Fury.

Is this LOEG all over again? Another cool comic cast through the Hollywood prism and rendered into a garish and distorted funhouse version of its namesake?
  • Aqualeo
I've never read the comic, but I've heard that it is really tongue in cheek. I think that is what Miller is going for. Everyone else wants it to be Sin City when the two are very different. They need to stop comparing it to Sin City.
  • Mitch
    PG-13?
  • I can tell the movie will be crap in many ways.

The Spirit has many classic splash pages that would make a great movie poster. Will Eisner drew a classic image of the Spirit running ahead of a train on elevated tracks in Warren Publishing's The Spirit #3. Why these weren't used, I have no idea.

Also, the Octopus was a mysterious enemy in the Spirit comics. You never saw his face. Miller has just gone way off course by showing the Octopus is Sam Jackson and letting him dress like a pimp and carrying all these huge guns.

What a shame. Miller was a good friend of Eisner's and he has bastardized the comic.
  • YoungZe
No Aqualeo it's not a tongue in cheek and nobody wants it to be another Sin City, but everything Miller showed us so far makes it look like another Sin City movie.
  • Chadams
@ Aqualeo: Pick up the original and the new Spirit. You'll see how far below the bar Frank Miller's aiming this movie.
  • South Texas Terror
    This movie looks like garbage.
  • Retroqqq
oh my why so negativity , although the second trailer is a bit strange ...
  • R_McCall
Wow. Everyone seems to hate this film. Never thought giving Frankie Miller the reigns to make a flick in the first place was a good idea but. Oh well, another piece of crapolla for the junk pile of life.
  • I remember how saw seeing the first teaser trailer made me. The Spirit wearing all black and the stupid red tie. Sighs. I just hope no one sees this so it doesn't taint such a classic character. (Daredevil?)
  • Is anyone else still sad that Brad Bird wrote a screenplay for an adaptation of the THE SPIRIT? THAT would've been something worth seeing.
