Tomorrowland: The Movie

Disney has announced that they are making a blockbuster movie out of an entire section of their Disneyland theme Park, Tomorrowland. What’s next? Epcot Center: The Movie? Dwayne Johnson is already attached to star in the film, which is being penned by Jon Lucas and Scott Moore (The Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, The Hangover). What’s more is that Disney is denying that the film will be titled Tomorrowland, but the setting will only be “inspired by” the futuristic setting. I personally hope that they use the old version of Tomorrowland as the inspiration. I’ve always loved the idea of retro-futurism, which is probably why I was somewhat excited when Robert Rodriguez was toying around with making a live-action Jetsons movie. But I’m sure the movie will probably be based off the current more futuristic design. Disney is also developing a film based on The Jungle Cruise.

Discuss: Do you care about a movie based on Disneyland’s Tomorrowland?

Keep your fingers crossed for People Mover: The Movie !

Couldn't theoretically, any future-set movie they make be "inspired by" the "futuristic setting"?

I'd much rather see a movie about something going awry in Tomorrowland...sort of a "One Day at Horrorland"-- in the FUTURE.
  • Disney does gret film, i belive that tomorrowland will be great.

I'd much rather see disneys next land be horrorland.

    Good idea marquis.

I guess it will depend on the story. I also like retro futurism and steampunk settings, so at least some eye candy can come out of this idea.

Now departing Rocket Tower Plaza Station.

Attention: All visitors from Galaxy N31, please keep forward facing tentacles clear of oncoming metro liner vehicles.

Long live the people mover. There should be a movie.

If you had a movie studio with a gang of talent fighting to get to it and a chunk of land with rides and crap on it I ask you, financially, what would you do?
  • Mikey M
Because Disney made it big on a lark with Pirates of the Carrbean they half to pimp all their rides as movies now.
Are these the same people that greenlight all the straight to DVD sequels?
Can't wait for the Matterhorn movie with Vin Diesel.

    @Mikey M

didnt Vinny Chase turn down that movie??

    There's actually a term instead of retro-future.

    It's 'paleo-future'.

Paleo-future is past predictions of the future, which are usually ridiculous to us.

  • Not sure about Tomorrowland but I feel like a movie about Spaceship Earth would be pretty cool.

Hey wasn't Pirates of the Crapibean based on a ride? I didn't care for the series much past the first movie but from what I hear it did pretty well for Disney. Sounds silly but hey! It might just be crazy enough to work! $$$$$$$$$$$$$
  • The idea sure sounds horrible, but of course Pirates of the Caribbean has nothing to do with its ride, so I assume this could theoretically achieve the same level of decentness.
  • Anomaly
Retro-futurism is indeed awesome. This doesn't sound as awesome.
  • Fo' Sho! wurd
If its starring Dwayne "Don't call me The Rock" Johnson then I'm up for it. Bring it on!!!!

"They did this already it was called 'Meet The Robinsons'."

The Rock again? How the hell did he get from wrestling to Disney movies? THREE OF THEM SO FAR.

And also, yes, this sounds like Meet the Robinsons, but Disney is Disney. Surprise me.

I'd pay to see "The Carousel of Progress: the Movie."

if they can harness the visuals of Darwyn Cooke's New Frontier, this would be nothing short of amazing. They have the artists. They need a story and a budget....and anyone other than The Rock.
  • Jon
Actually, I do want an Epcot movie! Peter, you should know better! The story of Disney's vision for Epcot is a grand one and would have changed how we lived in the United States. Imagine if the U.S. had no suburbs? That kind of change! And instead, with his failing health, his vision gets ruined by Disney corp and becomes a lame theme park instead of the marvel of social engineering that he envisioned. An Epcot would be fantastic and it makes me sad every time I visit Epcot to see what it has become. A movie about Tomorrowland is just stupid and is just shameless advertising. An Epcot movie would be different.

"Paging Mr. Morrow... Mr. Tom Morrow... Your party from Saturn has arrived. Please give them a ring."
  • Not suprised...the disney corporation will be in our lives for the next 100 years or so....
