7 Minutes of The Day The Earth Stood Still

Fox aired an extended seven minute look at The Day The Earth Stood Still during Fringe last night. It’s basically a nicely edited together version of the footage which was shown at this year’s comic con. Pretty underwelming if you ask me. What do you guys think?

i worked on a couple vfx shots on this one... i'm pretty happy with what I've seen so far in this trailer... BTW we're not done yet. plenty more shots to improve/complete.

got me MORE excited to watch it..and i do think keanu is the perfect part.not to say he's a bad actor, cause he's realy not.he was great in the matrix and..like many other actors..he sometimes doesnt pick the best roles, and yes,the way he talks is somewhat monotonal but in this flick thats perfect because he plays an alien trying to pass as human.one part i liked is when he was being questioned and..somehow thru the wiring,he reversed it to where he started questioning the guy.the way the guy went back in the chair and then sat up was erie and a good touch.i dont know..maybe im just biased because im a HUGE special effect/action lover.

I'll admit that it looks better than I expected. I'll wait until the geek audience reviews come in.

I'm kinda burned out on world calamity.
I'm predicting this film will do average numbers maybe have a 39 mil weekend.

anyone have a higher quality link?!
  • edog
I'm reassured that there will be other quality films to catch this December, so that I don't get sucked into seeing this one. Last night's teaser played like a reboot of Matrix Reloaded.

I think that this is just another attempt at using the name of a famous and beloved work (e.g., "I,Robot", "I am Legend") to pump up interest in something that is merely close to being in the same genre as the original. *sigh* Even if this didn't share the name of an SF classic, I'm still underwhelmed by the trailers. Might go if it's available at a discount.

My wife also thought Keanu was alien enough in his acting to pull this off.

Yeah im gonna have to agree with what other people said and say this looks pretty good to me. I saw it last night with my 2 sisters (17 and 13) and they were interested. Its more then I expected and I know Im gonna see it when it comes out. I don't know what you guys were expeecting.

Loved the original. It was pretty thought provoking for the time.
I hope they give thought to this one.

I'm not sure how I feel about that plotline with the kid, or Kathy Bates for that matter. Right now I'd prefer to watch the original if I had a choice between the two.

I'm more interested than I was when I saw the first trailer (but that's not saying to much),

I'll definitely keep my ears open for news on it, but it still looks like a cookie-cutter-studio-wanna-be-blockbuster.

    video has been pulled
  • It feels like 1970's sci- fi which I like!
  • So Neo is playing Agent Smith this time?
  • The Addict
It looks better than I'd expected, but still can't touch the original. One of the greatest sci-fi movies ever made.

Is this the sequel to Point Break?

looks awful. only K reeves can play that role so perfectly boring and uninterestingly

Looks lame. War of the Worlds looked more intense. Keanu? Pleaaasseee...
  • Captain Awesome
Looks better than I thought...so far.
  • Jon
This is what War of the Worlds should have been.

    Looks solid too me.
  • i think that this is obviously a Great role for Keanu, because it suits his acting style so well. yeah, im one of those people who actually like him. anyway, the tone of this film, from these seven minutes, is so fucking awesome to me. i Love the music, the eerie silence, etc. if that makes any sense.

i think im gonna enjoy the fuck outta this movie.

ok, i wrote this whilst watching it. by minute five it gets kinda weird. i hope they dont fuck this up. shit. they probably will. forget all i said above! though i hope my original sentiments hold up.

Pretty underwelming? i really just do not know what makes you guys on this site happy lol. i think it looks pretty great so far.
  • D J
Definitely a technical improvement, but I can't help but ask: Do I really need to see Keanu as Klaatu? I could probably do without this remake.

    * Whoah...*

It's pretty great if you ask me. I don't know what you guys are hoping for. I watched the original some days ago again and I might say it is fairly OVERrated. I hope they improve it. And I always knew Keanu was a alien BTW... :P
