Quick Stop Entertainment has, what is being billed as the first teaser trailer for The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, but most people would probably consider it more of a featurette as it lacks proper footage. Terry Gilliam gives us an introduction to the world of his next film, through a combination of photos and concept art.

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus is a fantastical morality tale, set in the present day. It tells the story of Dr Parnassus and his extraordinary ‘Imaginarium’, a travelling show where members of the audience get an irresistible opportunity to choose between light and joy or darkness and gloom. Blessed with the extraordinary gift of guiding the imaginations of others, Dr Parnassus is cursed with a dark secret. Long ago he made a bet with the devil, Mr Nick, in which he won immortality. Many centuries later, on meeting his one true love, Dr Parnassus made another deal with the devil, trading his immortality for youth, on condition that when his first-born reached its 16th birthday he or she would become the property of Mr Nick.

Valentina is now rapidly approaching this ‘coming of age’ milestone and Dr Parnassus is desperate to protect her from her impending fate. Mr Nick arrives to collect but, always keen to make a bet, renegotiates the wager. Now the winner of Valentina will be determined by whoever seduces the first five souls. Enlisting a series of wild, comical and compelling characters in his journey, Dr Parnassus promises his daughter’s hand in marriage to the man that helps him win. In this captivating, explosive and wonderfully imaginative race against time, Dr Parnassus must fight to save his daughter in a never-ending landscape of surreal obstacles - and undo the mistakes of his past once and for all.

  • Terry Gilliam is a genius. I trust anything coming from that mind

I wonder how Ledger's transformations go by. Seems like a cool movie, though.

This is neither a teaser nor a trailer.

Looks really really weird; but so were his other films. Glad to see some originality instead of just the same old movies.

this is more a production featurette, not the greatest artwork but I'm sure it'll end up looking classic Gilliam in the end...I wonder if he'll ever decide to take on "Don Quixote" again...

I think Gilliam is best when his films are at their most fantastic. Yeah, his more conventional work with 12 Monkeys & Brothers Grimm were good, but there's a depth to those wild trips in Munchausen, Brazil and Fear & Loathing where on first viewing I found myself dizzy and scared: Pretty much confused to hell over what I had just seen. Days later I wanted to go back and do it all over again, just get lost in the world he's created.

Really, what good is a film (or any other medium) where upon leaving the theatre you find yourself "done" with it? Parnassus looks like something that will follow you home and live on your bedroom ceiling for weeks after. I'm looking forward to it.

So how are thy attempting to salvage Ledger's role with the other actors?

    I'm rather excited though..

looks fantastic, but as with some of his other stuff I think it will come down to the editing room floor. How choppy it will be with the sheer amount of stuff this film is bound to have. If he can still make the audience feel even when cutting it down to whatever length it needs be.
i like him and his films though so here's hoping for the best.
  • cant wait to see this film i love gilliams work. and brazil is one of my fav movies of all time. besides TOM WAITS is in the movie and that man i GOD!!!!

    Looks awesome! I can't wait.
  • BRAZIL was something like a "psicotic joke" of what BRASIL really is.

Maybe Warner Bros or Paramount shows interess in co-produce and release this picture.
  • gocitizen
nice. I'm looking forward to this. Gilliam has a long history of fighting for his imagination. I'm glad to see he's still exploring.

This looks to me like a sales tool for a film market, likely Toronto. I'm a little nervous about the CGI in the film. My favorite thing about Gilliam is his use of models and "low-tech" effects. But I'm really hopeful about this movie!
  • juanj
yeah, I also worry bout the CGI. It would take away most of his genius
  • B
Fucking damn! It's been removed, it says :\

WTF GOAMDANA IVE BEENB WAITNIGNF ROT HIS AND NOW ITS REMOVDED

sorry swete shit i gota find this.

The fact is; and will continue to remain; Terry
    Gilliam is a visionary,
    film director.His overactive imagination is
something that destroys his whimsical style of story telling
If only he could pay less
attention to detail and have tighter reins over
    the plot .
He would reap the rewards of 'Twelve Monkeys' and 'Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas'.
