The Dark Knight Back on IMAX in January

Remember when I predicted that Warner Bros would rerelease The Dark Knight in theaters? Well it’s happening sooner than you might expect. According to Reuters, the studio planning a January 2009 IMAX rerelease, as an award season reminder. It is “uncertain” if the film will also be redistributed on conventional screens, but I don’t see why not. But with the DVD / Blu-ray rumored to hit store shelves one month earlier, just in time for Christmas, will moviegoers be interested in seeing The Dark Knight on the big screen one more time?

  • Josh
    It's about damn time.
  • AJ
Will consumers see it again after the DVD is released? IMAX-yes Standard-no

but it's good to hear they're giving it an awards push
  • Logan
Great news! My father was working in a small shit town for 3 months and the theater was smaller than the one I have in my living room. I don't want him to see it in a regular theater. Definitely going to take him in January.
  • Fir3Wolf
I won't because I have seen it twice once being in IMAX, but I do recommend people who haven't seen it in IMAX to not miss out this time around. Sure it will be on Blu-Ray but that is not the same as IMAX.
  • Alec
Good news. I never caught TDK in IMAX. Glad to hear I have a chance to do so. It will be fun to see how many people watch this movie again after how much it made in the theatres this past summer.
  • chris
i searched /film for "the dark knight" and it resulted in 1,830 articles.
  • Tommy Metropolis
    haha! epic
  • Yeah I never saw it in IMAX either. I will definitely check it out in January.
  • Kevin
I'll definitely be seeing it again in IMAX. I only saw it once, and kind of regretted it. I'll see it!
  • Kal
    @Fir3Wolf
The blu ray is getting then Imax Version. The BD can reproduce the aspect ratio switch of the imax version.
  • Jon
I've seen it 3 times thus far and would want to see it again in Imax. The thing is I just saw it 3 times, so seeing it in Imax right now wouldn't be as good when I can repeat every line from memory. But in January it might be better to see 3 more times. But I wouldn't expect it to be in Imax for more than a month, but if they keep bringing it back for short periods of time like they do for other Imax movies (Polar Express, Everest, etc.) then it just might beat that $600 mil. mark.
  • Abdallah
I've seen it on IMAX already, but it was so amazing that even if i already have the DVD by then i'm gonna see it again on IMAX.
  • Adam B.
I'm down to go see it in IMAX or even a regular theater.
  • Matt
yet again another dark knight story, blah blah blah, but for real though, i heard the imax experience was amazing, so i might go and i will probably be reminded again and again by "/knight"
  • Sauce
never saw it in Imax ...I'm pleased.
  • The Enchanted One
Awesome. Seeing it again for sure.
  • Bob
with the economic times we are currently in, i will buy the dvd and be satisified. however, it is tempting to see it in imax.

    @ Matt

i like your joke about /knight
  • Aindriú
I'll see it again in IMAX; I've already seen it twice.
  • Never saw it IMAX. But as it appears I will have almost the entire month of January off from school, it'll give me plenty of time to experience it in all its glory.
  • Silver
I also must reccomend TDK in IMAX it looks absolutely amazing you get immersed in the world of TDK and I'm certainly going to try and see it again
  • Captain Awesome
I can't stress it enough. If people have to chance to see this in Imax, you won't be disappointed.

It's so much better than the standard DLP screen version.
  • Paige
    YAYYYY!
  • evergreen
THIS WILL BE A YEARLY TRADITION IN MY HOUSE.
  • Anthony
Still on IMAX in the UK till middle of November and its still selling out in London. i'm sure they will have to pull it before Christmas if WB want to release it on Disc. Besides Polar Express will be wanting to fill the slots over the holiday period, that always sells out right up until February.
  • OAKside
Saw it on IMAX (Santikos Palladium, TX) and I'd still much rather watch it (24 times) on Blu-ray. Simple, HD home theater FTW. That said, I might see it a second time at another IMAX on re-release, just because. :)
  • Benjamin Wright
Looks like we can expect a whole new batch of posts come January asses the themes of Dark Knight and why the way Christian Bale strokes Maggie G's cheek represents the poor economic climate. I mean honestly, are there any other movies out right now? If I knew nothing about film and constantly checked slashfilm everyday I would think that "Dark Knight" reigned supreme and all these other films were the leftovers.
  • this is great news for anyone wanting to experience it again on an imax screen.
  • El Bart-O
    ENOUGH!!!!! OF THE CLOWN!!!!!!!!
  • Aaron
Wow, you guys must live in deprived towns. It's still at the IMAX here in San Antonio. I almost get the feeling that it will be until something else finally releases in the same format.
  • peteo
I'll catch it on IMAX again. Will be third viewing.
  • Wall•E Plays Pong
C'mon extended cut, c'mon extended cut!!
  • brian
I've seen it 3 times so I probably won't see it again. But yeah, best movie of the year.
  • Fir3Wolf
    @Kal
Well I didn't know that, thanks for the info. Guess I will be getting it on Blu-Ray one it releases this December.
  • Saw it twice at IMAX, once at normal cinema - i think IMAX added 20% more of everything to the film! It felt more 'in your face' and more of 'a ride' at the IMAX. A little scarier too at the faces were huge and right in your face.

Kids were crying at the first IMAX screening I went to!...

(Is it true about Bluray adopting the IMAX ratio and resolution quality??)

Like other people said, I didn't get the chance to see this in imax so Im happy it will be out in January. Not mention January is usually the slow month, this could actually make some more money.

Oh and the stupid hate about the TDK articles is exactly that. You act like all we get are Dark Knight post. I see a whole bunch of post before this that are not Dark Knight. But what I do see is that whenever a Dark Knight article, there are a whole lot of comments and Im assuming view counts. So obviously people are coming here to read these post and if you don't like it, then don't leave a comment because basically there going to do it more since they get revenue by view counts. But by all means keep leaving comments, your keeping people amused.

/knight btw was funny, I will say that. You guys should so do a April fools joke with the site and a movie that is popular at the time.
  • charles
    I'm Game.
  • Zach
Hell yeah! I will see it in Imax again! Really, anything to beat Titanic out of the number one spot....then again, Revolutionary Road is coming out, and since it has the stars from Titanic, we know that's going to win anyways, TDK should just give up.
  • Good. Wipe that Titanic
  • Gajonka
    YOU COMPLETE ..... ME.

    YES OF COURSE.

STILL HAVE TO TAKE MY GIRLFRIEND.

    OF COURSE!

THERE NO GOING BACK... BUT IN THIS CASE THERE IS!!!
  • A Better Class of Criminal
I probably won't go see it in IMAX again if I've already got it on DVD.
Unless it's an extended cut... that would be freaking awesome!
  • Jack
Last month when I predicted that slash film is annoying with their predictions and personal comments looks like this month I'm right again with more contributions to the annoyance. Instead of boasting why don't you guys just stick to reporting news which you're great at. I just cringe every time I hear you guys gloat about something.
  • Vic
I suppose the rerelease concerns only the USA. I have friends who haven't seen Dark Knight on IMAX. That's too bad. We have only one Imax theater in France.
