Harold Ramis Updates on Ghostbusters 3

Harold Ramis sent a casual email to the Chicago Tribune over the weekend per confirmation of Ghostbusters 3. He clarified that Bill Murray, who has expressed much hesitation about a second sequel in the past—even preferring to do voice work on a once proposed animated sequel—is game…

“yes, columbia is developing a script for GB3 with my year one writing partners, gene stupnitsky and lee eisenberg.  judd apatow is co-producing year one and has made several other films for sony, so of course the studio is hoping to tap into some of the same acting talent. aykroyd, ivan reitman and i are consulting at this point, and according to dan, bill murray is willing to be involved on some level.  he did record his dialogue for the new ghostbusters video game, as did danny and i, and ernie hudson.  the concept is that the old ghostbusters would appear in the film in some mentor capacity.  not much else to say at this point.  everyone is confident a decent script can be written and i guess we’ll take it from there.
best, harold”

“Some mentor capacity.” Hmmm. We’re still not too clear on Judd Apatow’s role. As much as I respect the guy’s style of comedy, I do hope Ghostbusters 3 is not a signature posse showcase complete with millions of feet of guys freestyling about cocks, bromance and Internet porn. Also, we need to be reassured that Slimer will appear (for one minute, natch) and that Ray Parker Jr. will keep the theme music locked down without threats from Huey Lewis. Oh, and no Vigo Jell-O molds.

"the concept is that the old ghostbusters would appear in the film in some mentor capacity."

    Lame shit.
  • Harrison and Steve
im cool with the "mentors" angle..

provided the new kids totally wet their pants and wimp out ,
compelling the the original crew to strap it on and get it done one last time.

thats the only way i see it.... the new crew to bring in the kids..

put the game out first...see how that sells..
then drop the live action finale.

Problem with bringing the game out first Harrison and Steve - at the moment the game is on indefinite hold until someone picks it up (which I would bet will happen, the question is when, and how the handover will affect its release schedule).

Anyway, I'm a HUGE Ghostbusters fan... that series defines a major part of my childhood, the original 2 movies will always be dear to my heart... so all I can say is I'm very glad to hear the original cast is game to all have a role in this one, but I remain skeptical for now.
  • lame, lame, LAME.

    Awesome news!

I think the host's of Top Gear in the UK should be the new GB's.

They have great chemistry and all look a bit different....

Who are the new Ghostbusters going to be, and why do we need new Ghostbusters? If the original guys saved the world before and things went back to normal in NYC, wouldn't it be funny to see them have to do it again as fat 60 year olds? I'm sort of getting sick of seeing the whole Apatow crew, and since they all show up in every film, it never feels like you can get away from them. Is this really going to look like the Freaks and Geeks grew up and became Ghostbusters with Rogen, Siegel, and Franco? I hope that Judd Apatow being involved doesn't guarantee that his stable is coming along too.

dude this 'mentor' thing, and bill murray 'on some level' sounds like its gonna be the shit we didn't want at all.

a proper sequel would do soooooo well. this sucks until we hear different.

God, I effing hate the Apatow gang( yes, all of them). What, are they the only comedy game in town? Theirs a reason you guys got your asses beat in high school. Honestly, can't they just leave well enough alone? My parents took me to see the first GB when I was like 4. Will it be that caliber of a film? No. Let's learn from "the crystal skull" some films are better off not made.

    I also miss Annie Potts.

    Awesome!
I'm so freaking happy about this, you have no idea.

Slimer must appear! If he does not I will not see the movie... end of story.
  • Gerry Putler
The villian should be Sandman from the old Real GB's tv show. that would be ace.

Also, wonder of Sigourney Weaver will be back. Seems she Venkman and Oscar got really cozy in 2.

Im excited. I think it could turn out really good. I like the idea of NYC back to normal, Ghostbusters are slow on work but they've hired new guys... who only really went for the job because they dont believe in ghosts, so they think they dont have to do anything. Ray and Igon try to teach them things but they dont really listen, then they get a wakeup call when s*** hits the fan. I also think that the apatow crew are some of the few comedians around nowadays that could pull off ghostbusters style humour.

I dont know why everyones calling for the 'original' team to be centre stage... I think a bunch of geriatric ghostbusters trying to save NYC in walking frames sounds pretty pathetic.
  • Peter
nah, i don't know... the whole thing seemed to go from awesome to lame in like 2 seconds for me. The best thing about those movies was the interaction between those guys. I don't know if the current Judd crew could pull it off.
  • Gerry Putler
But do you know that the original GB's could pull it off these days? Think about it.
  • Venkman

Fellas fellas... We have to appriciate the fact that there is a new movie in the first place. Look we all want the original guys back but they would only do one more.. with a new team we could be talking TRILOGY!!!... You know thats how all the big franchises do it now. It reminds me of Extreme Ghostbusters the cartoon... I mean shit it wasn't the greatest new team but I learned to love it because bottom line is someone is out there with a suit on and a proton pack bustin some spooks.

Bottom line stop being so ungrateful and appriciate that Bill and company is coming back to atleast mentor a new team so we can continue to have Ghostbusters as a part of our pop culture.
  • Pentarix
This is a bad idea. Mark my words.
  • ROCK
I think its a great ideal. But you have to have bill, dan and harold in the movie no!!!!!!!!!!!!! cameo..... They have be a big part of the movie for it to work... There only one ghost buster..
