Fight Club and Choke author Chuck Palahniuk tells MTV that DC Comics approached him about doing a comic book miniseries. Nothing has come of the talks, but Palahniuk says he would love to create a ghost/monster series like the Tales from the Crypt comics he read as a kid.

I would love to see what Palahniuk could bring to the world of paneled storytelling. I’m sure it would be something unlike we’ve ever seen before. DC’s Vertigo label needs to ink a deal with him right now. Am I wrong?

    This needs to happen yesterday.

YES!!! That would be amazing!! If DC does not do it then the dont know what they ar doing.
  • I'd read it.
  • Pentarix
I am a DC comics man, my favorite movie is Fight Club and I am currently reading/loving Choke. So yeah, this would be amazing.
  • MonkeyMafia
I know I'm in the minority but i f'ing love HAUNTED and I think that would make an incredible mini-series... just thinking about how they would show GUTS.... mmmmm

This should have happened THE DAY BEFORE yesterday.

What Palahniuk would do with a comic would inevitabely result in Epic Awesomeness.
  • Steelo
man Stephen King is doing it with Marvel, why the hell not.
  • Ellsee
MonkeyMafia .. I LOVE HAUNTED TOO!! and yeah it would make an awesome mini series!

    This must happen!
  • Can't wait for it to be collected in a graphic novel. I'm there.
  • Perfect.
  • Victoria Mancini
Has DC been reading my diary? This is beyond awesome.
  • Domino
If you're wrong, I don't want to be right
  • Captain Awesome

Comics aren't totally new to Chuck fans that have frequented his official (the writer's cult) site. I'm curious if Chuck would try to, in some fashion, employ the artist that has spent many years gracing us with comic translations of some of his novels (Lullaby and Invisible Monsters).

It's always interesting seeing artists jump all around available mediums ... whether to see failures or successes.

Good book authors don't always make good comic authors. Writing a comic book is in some ways, a lot more like writing a series of short screenplays. Some authors have made the transition from books to comics well (Orson Scott Card with Ultimate Iron Man comes to mind)
And it should be noted that the Dark Tower comics are written by Peter David and Robin Furth, a well known comic writer and Stephen King's Dark Tower research assistant.
Would Chuck make a great comic writer just because he is a great book writer? Definitely not. Would I read it to find out? You bet.
  • greycolumbus
Haunted sort of reads like comic book anyway. Or maybe it's my imagination...
  • Emma L.
That would be awesome!! He's just about my favorite author, ive read every single one of his books and Fight Club is one of my all time favorite movies. plus im a pretty big fan of DC comics. i really hope this falls through.
  • rasalghul
Ditto ditto ditto. While writing books is different than writing comics, he seems like the kind of guy who, once he committed, would want to do it right.

it's one of those ideas that is so obvious it makes ya think, 'no shit, why the hell didn't i think of this before?'

vertigo, top cop, icon, dynamite - the label would depend on what type of story he ended up writing. right now marvel is doing a really good job with the 'dark tower' series, it even has a 'literature' feel to it, so i'd throw marvel's hat in the ring.

My mind just blew into a thousand pink, squishy pieces.

Why must you all represent the lowest common denominator?
  • orange cinema
    @ micheal

i'm curious, how are we representing the lowest common denominator?
  • Tom
Considering the amount of inner monolouging in his books, I expect all the panels to be covered with thought balloons.
  • dave
Chuck's boring. His early shit was cool, but I'd care about this even less than a guy Ritchie comic book. Or movie.
  • YoungZe
I ... i think in need to change my pants.
  • YoungZe
btw. it's Chuck Palahniuk not Chuck Palahnuik.
  • I was one of your lurkers, so I thought this would be a good post to comment on first. :) Thanks for the list!
