Doesn’t Sound Good: 24 Shuts Down Production

Not so great news for 24 fans. EW is reporting that production of the new season of 24 will shut down for more than two weeks so that the series writers can “reshape the upcoming season’s creative direction”. Howard Gordon admits that they “just couldn’t get this direction to work,” so they “found another one” and “wound up retooling it.” Last season was lackluster by every account, and a production shutdown is never a good sign, especially considering this season was already postponed an entire year (partly due to the writers strike). You would think that with all the extra time, they would have figured everything out…

And if that doesn’t sound bad enough, Michael Ausiello reports that Elisha Cuthbert has signed on to reprise her role as Jack Bauer’s incredibly stupid and annoying daughter.

Actually , this is great news. less garbage on TV. Although christian slaters show could be worth a gander.
  • oh please
I'll take Kim as long as Chloe isn't coming back. Gah.
  • You know at this point, I'd rather watch them do something crazy like do a whole season of "24" devoted to the writing of "24" the series in 24 hours! Just think of it! Every bit of minutiae. Kiefer Sutherland hijinks. Elisha Cuthbert drama! Real earthquakes. And the season finale would end with the opening scene of the next "24" season premiere. I'd rather watch that than Jack fight a cougar in Africa while looking for a shoe with codes to the nuclear codes that China stole from France, whereby instigating a global war with England and Brazil over corn, which Tony Alemaida is holding captive!
  • PSYCH

    no other shows are needed.

THis isn't a bad thing. Remember it's September and according to EW, they've wrapped 18 episodes. If you put that into account with 4 or 5 episodes airing each month, that takes them up to around the start of April for those episodes airing. Which means they have loads of time (thanks to the strike) if needed to stop production and rewrite scripts which they are unhappy with. It's better to do this than to do what they've normally done and just carry on with a bad script because they haven't got time to adjust it.
  • GregoryV
You mean, incredibly hot, stupid and annoying daughter.
  • Blackstar
I'll take Chloe over Kim any day of the week and twice on Tuesday. The only possibly good outcome of Kim's return would her gruesome, painful and highly graphic death at the hands of Jack as a necessary act to "Save American Lives". We suffered through 72 episodes of her character. I think that was more than enough torture, even by Jack's standards.

I dont see how Elisha Cuthbert returning to TV is neccessairly a bad thing...
  • Justin
Ok, Psych sucks, it's basically Scrubs without the doctors.

24 is consistently one of the best shows I TV and I've seen every season as it aired and I plan to do the same with the upcoming one. That said, the latter half of last season was kind of lackluster, but when you compare it to most of the garbage that's popular these days it's like The Wire.

Sounds like people just don't have enough faith in the writers.
  • The only thing that could possibly get me to watch 24 again would be Elisha Cuthbert.
  • Not Mark
    Yes! Bring back the cougar!
  • Jeff
24 needs to die. I'm sick of the torture wanking.
  • jesus
    WHAT ABOUT TONY!!!!!?????
  • 790
Sounds like there changing the last 5 or 6 episodes to better tie into season 8...
  • Brendt
This story is backwards. Elisha Cuthbert's character coming back is the FAR bigger story (in the bad news sense). I'd rather have Jar-Jar Binks as Jack's sidekick.
  • JustinIsStupid
Justin, I'm sorry but you are stupid and lack an intellect to comprehend the stupid writing of 24 and any other mediums.

Lack of faith in the writers?! You damn bet your ass!
Why should we have faith? Have they given us a reason to have faith? 24 hasn't been good since season 3!
Just because you watch anything to do with 24 and lack a sharp mind to see its flaws doesn't make 24 good.
Lack of good tvshows?! What a damn tired sentence that is!
That is what everyone is saying to justify the crap show they are watching!
Here are a list of good tvshows, besides being just generally good, they are 100x better than 24:
    -Dexter
    -Carnivale
    -Heroes
-Lost (yeah, it's overrated, but better than 24)
    -Angel
-Miracles (cancelled, because people like you watch the same crap for years, instead of giving this amazing show a chance!)
    -Nip/Tuck
    -Stargate SG-1 & Atlantis (if you're into sci-fi)
    -Battlestar Galactica
    -House
    and much more!

I can't wait to hear the show open with:

"The following takes place between 2007 and 2009..."
  • john
    Justin is a chud.
  • She is incredibly annoying but incredibly hot so I'm glad to see her back, hopefully not in a prominent speaking role...
  • David E
The problem is that there are only so many plausible ways to destroy the world without bringing aliens into the picture. I highly doubt they'd do some Area 51 perversion of the show. We've been through nuclear attacks, chemical weapons attacks, American traitors, terrorists from different parts of the world....etc. I love the show (except for last year). I just don't know how many more episodes they're going to have a back and forth conversation with the idealistic, yet by the book person arguing with a conniving, yet possibly good person with Jack panting on some cell phone waiting for an answer.

The last season of 24 was a huge disappointment for me as well. It just started out wrong and got steadily worse. Bringing Jack back in from the Chinese torture just left so many things hanging out there. The whole season I was like WTF? If the writing was any good, the season would have started out with Jack escaping from China, on a killing spree of epic proportions! lol This was not done as Jack could not follow the rigid 24 hour timeline to return to the USA if so. The show should have taken place in Europe or Asia. The season was totally f*^kin lame!

Seriously, it was not good writing. 24 hours is a good premise but it is no longer fresh, the show needs revised and updated. I am still a fan of Jack Bower, but the writers need there asses kicked hard.
  • Lee
Just don't go back to LA and CTU, take out the political stuff and you are good.
  • Topher
    @Anti-Septic
If the writing was any good, the season would have started out with Jack escaping from China, on a killing spree of epic proportions!

Agreed...That was a total let down for me when Jack came home on a plane. Here's hoping the writers can give us a good story and a kick ass Jack.
  • Donald Sharp
I don't know, there are endless possiblities for Jack. Stopping chemical or biological attacks is good, Corraling a silo in Montana, Kidnapping the president, hijacking any entity vital to american interest. The enemies are also boundless. The russian-arab confab is intriguing as is the chinese. How about Global-warming terrorists. Jesus, can't they find writers with imagination or must I do everything!
  • JustinIsStupidIsStupid
1st off, I wouldn't spend 2 minutes watching any of the boring shows on that geeksquad pimple-faced nerdball list of yours. Only gave heroes a chance to see what the cheerleader was about but soon lost interest. You people would rather watch fiction then some real life drama that could actually happen?? I don't get it, Keifer hasn't let me down since season one, and I don't believe he would let me down in any future endeavors he intends to do with this show. If season 5 wasn't the most obvious representation of our current government I don't know what is. "A president coming into office on a fluke, making deals with terroist to usurp oil, engage innocents, instill fear in american citizens..." And season 6 wasn't nearly as bad as you people are making it out to be. My God, it showed a man nearly at his wits-end trying to hold it together for the sake of a country that abandoned him at his darkest hours. Need I even go on, this message will self-destruct in: 5...4...3...2-4 ready for the prequel!!
