Video Blog: Our Mountain Hotel and Free Gondola Rides

For all the people who have emailed, commented, and called… yes, we made it to our hotel okay. I probably should have posted an update. I figured that everyone would have realized this occurred when they saw that I had uploaded the videos in the late hours of the morning.
The hotel we’re staying at is in the mountains, about 20 minutes away from the main street. When we finally checked in at 1:00am last night, we could see nothing but the stars in the sky. It was a pleasant surprise to wake up and find this incredible view outside the window in my room. Day 2 of my 28 Day Movie adventure begins.
And as it turns out, the best way to get downtown involves taking a 15-minute ride over the mountains on a gondola lift. Balance has never been one of my strengths, and skiing is something I’ve just never attempted. Although, I have seen my share of ski towns through my years of attending the Sundance Film Festival in Park City Utah.
Even though on the surface, both festivals seem simular, Telluride is so very different than Sundance. I feel like this is what Sundance must have felt like 15 years ago. It’s a lot less crowded. We walked to the main street and were able to find a half empty restaurant to grab lunch. Just the fact that we were able to navigate around the city without having to play a constant game of navigating in and out and around other festival-goers, says a lot.
Right now I’m sitting in a coffee shop on the town’s main drag, posting this update. For me, the festival will begin later tonight with the David Fincher Tribute, which includes a 20-minute preview of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. I will also be seeing an Irish film called Kiss at midnight. Check back for updates. I promise the film coverage will begin tonight.
Telluride provides press with a few extra tickets to the big screenings, and it seems like my tickets may have been lost in some sort of mix up. I’ve been in touch with the press office trying to fix the situation, I’m hoping that they will be able to resolve the issue.
