Update: No loving bitch slaps were ultimately exchanged. We can all sleep soundly. However, Devin did make an LOLCats: The Movie joke on air. FYI: “Andrew Stanton from Pixar is directing.”

Peter leaves for an epic film festival triathlon and suddenly Slashfilm is vulnerable to attack? No way, dudes. Our readers will easily guess who the first sneaky culprit is. Yep, one Devin Faraci from Chud.com, known here as the guy who labeled Wall-E a would-be date rapist on the /Filmcast. Today, Devin threatened via Twitter to “lovingly bitchslap” Slashfilm (more specifically: me) this evening on G4’s magnificent Attack of the Show.

The reason? Well, Faraci has quickly anointed himself as the web’s chortling spokesman for Facebook: The Movie, and he’ll be defending it on G4 tonight as such. Yesterday, FB:TM was announced by writer Aaron Sorkin on, duh, Facebook, only to be immediately and unanimously meh’d by /Film and its readers. Devin then responded by comparing the reception here to “bitching about email,” in reference to both the film and the site/company. He’s playing up Sorkin’s involvement (accomplished, talented, agreed) and presumes the rather typical controversy surrounding the company’s start will be the basis for a really good film.

Well, let’s say Sorkin was writing Wal-Mart: The Movie or Match.com: The Movie instead: would he choose to first announce the film on those respective companies’ websites, especially if he plans to deal fairly with controversy? Moreover, Faraci calls me “ignorant” and “snobbish” for not aligning with his view that Facebook isn’t much different “from email,” the phone book or Verizon. His Scrabulous-referencing headline aside, Faraci completely overlooks how sites like Facebook forever impact(ed) personal identity, relationships, consumerism, privacy, conformity, expression, for good and bad and who knows. I’m not championing or “rebelling” against the site or being a hippity hipster. Unlike Devin, I simply don’t think people hold Facebook dear enough to see a feature about it this soon, like they might, say, Atari or Nintendo, hence my comparison yesterday to The Wizard. Whatever.

And not to be disrespectful or ageist, but is the 47-year-old Sorkin of walk-and-talk fame—who admits to knowing nada about social networking and the site—the guy for a high profile film on this subject? And if so, who’s the audience? Grandpa meet Devin? Fun.

Good luck with that bitch slap, Devin!1111. FAIL. <3 Attack of the Show airs tonight at 7 and 10 p.m. EST.

I'd rather watch a penis get sliced in half with a razor blade for an hour straight over and over then see FACEBOOK The Movie
  • webb
    sounds like cross promotional propoganda.

    i like it.
  • andy
    lol, webb
  • Goobity
To quote Sorkin, “I’ve just agreed to write a movie for Sony and producer Scott Rudin about how Facebook was invented. I figured a good first step in my preparation would be finding out what Facebook is "

    Yeah, good idea...
  • Hunter... you're a beast.
  • th1nk
I feel as if Hunter should be marching to the Imperial March theme on the way to the bridge of the /film Super Star Destroyer.
  • Andrew
Only Devin would defend such an inane idea. Sure, the questionable circumstances in which Facebook was founded are mildly interesting but NOT interesting enough to warrant a feature film. At the most it would be a good Wired magazine article or a Dateline NBC segment.
  • Brian
All I can say is "lmfao".
If he wants to go on national TV and publicly state how much of a nerd he is, by all means let him. It's advertising for you at /film.

It's bad enough that Facebook is around, let alone having a movie made after it. If this Facebook movie is made, it will forever tarnish my favorite medium of entertainment....film.

I'm sorry, but that is taking it way way too far. A word to Devin....get a life.
  • I heard that Wall-E podcast and Devin's commentary was scary indeed. I've been doing commentary on movies for 14 yrs on a nationally syndicated morning radio show and started my own Website 3 months ago so Ive been around the block. I must say his rant about the Wall-e stuff was a total joke. The fact he believed what he was saying was really scary, and to me, honestly quite pathetic. People go to the movies to have fun, forget about life for a few hrs and in a rare case be moved by something great. Theres 300 million people in this country and he's the only one with that Wall-e point of view. I know a few therapists so If he needs one just sent me an email and I'll hook him up! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!
  • BATGIRL
    nice bear, hunter.
  • jimbo stewart
    What'd he say about Wall-E?
  • digitalet
I am going on TV to show Stephen Colbert /film, so he can publicly denounce your use of his most feared arch nemesis, the bear.

People, bears are no laughing matter.
  • orange cinema
maybe we just didn't like the idea of a 'facebook' film, because we are tired of knowing movies like this ARE STUPID FUCKING IDEAS from inception, yet we still see countless dollars pumped into their inevitable failures.

    @ hunter

i don't know anything about this faraci guy, so i gotta ask what would be his agenda, in getting behind such an obviously terrible film idea? i thought blogging was heading in the direction that we hope to be able to curb studios away from making such horrible pieces of shit. why turn and support one?
  • Devindra Hardawar
  • cmac8219
Wow... don't no why I posted that twice.
  • spacedog128
I didn't hear his comments, but I was creeped out by wall-e. If it were humans and not robots, essentially he dragged a girl in a coma around simply based on her looks.

There is a lot of time spent showing us how quirky and cool wall e is, but eve is simply an attractive robot. Wall-e goes to great lengths to show off to her with physical attraction being the only motivating factor for his affections.
  • Iron Matt
I love SlashFilm and I'm not going to stop visiting this site but this argument is just stupid. Yes, I think a Facebook movie is a terrible idea but I don't think it needs to be blown out of proportion like this.
  • What would Jesus do ?
  • krackajap
Aww what happened Hunter? You and Devin seemed to get along so well during the Wall-E date rape discussion. Is the honeymoon over?
  • Patrick O'Riley
Were there a string of atrocious murders associated with Facebook's inception? Because if not, I don't understand what this will be about.
  • J.Kerr
What does it matter? No one watches G4 anyway.
  • Superman
    true
  • Chris
    I second J. Kerr.

Worthless "game reviews" that no one should ever take to heart; and if they got a guy who's gonna be all "Hur, Hunter and /Film suck" then that just goes to show how ricockulous that channel is.

Ah, I'd watch Wal-Mart: The Movie though, but not this Facebook crap.
  • Josh
Finally a site that has blogging about arguing about blogging about movies.
  • LordToastButter
Oh know he's gunna call us out on cable tv. What will we ever Do?

    P P P Please!

Who cares about Facebook The Movie? This totally has TV movie written all over it. It should be placed right next to Pirates of Silicon Valley.

Devin does need help. I did listen to that pod cast and all I can say is Sweet Jesus on a Chocolate Cracker!

If Devin is so lock-step behind this film then let him have it. I'm sure he'll support the next movie about Starbucks, Txt Messaging and how Al Gore created the internet!
  • Reggie
I heard Hunter was the one who made the Wall-E statements. My bad.
  • evergreen
    There's a bear in Wall-E?
  • CHUD? please. i go to a shitload of film blog sites every day (at work of course) and CHUD is one i check out maybe once a week. it never seems to be updated and im not sure their code has been tested in IE7 as it tends to look like crap. oh, and i find their opinions unintersting. but, thats my opinion. :) keep up the good work hunter. peter get some sleep.
  • will
    simply brilliant!
  • @J.Kerr agreed! I want my TechTV back. Damn G4!
There have been way worse stories for feature films. Making it about how the company started is not such a bad idea. I would end the movie at the launch of Facebook. It could just be based on startups that became giant companies.
  • Superman
mmmmmmmmmmm fellow techtv fans? Sumi das in fresh gear! :) bring it back! At least xplay's still good. Oh call for help? So many memories flooding back... good times... good times...
  • The_Condor
Sure, Aaron Sorkin may be going out on a limb here, but isn't that what you did when you stumbled upon blogging for /film? And Hunter, look how that turned out!!!!

    Oh, wait a minute....

Way to blow another DF article out of proportion Champ.
  • @Superman yah xplay is still good but damn!
  • YoungZe
    I want an arena-fight.
  • Adam B.
    it's 10PM EST and Kingpin is on G4.. :/
  • Jon
    @Hunter:

TBH, I really could care less about this feud and I think this was very unprofessional. I think your criticisms of his blog are justified, unbiased, and belong in public view, but certainly should not have any malicious nature to them. You are a very good journalist and one of my favorite /film writers. Don't screw that up with petty bickering! Devin's attitude about this is very childish and he won't be winning any readers over in this blog.

    @Wall-e:

I like it when movies get a different point of view, like how Star Wars gets compared to The Wizard of Oz in the VW shorts. But if you think how Wall-E interacts with comatose Eve is "creepy", it is because you are thinking about it in reality and not in the Wall-e Universe. In reality you already know how to react around the opposite sex from movies/experience/etc. Wall-E doesn't. Wall-e, like any artificial intelligence device, needs to learn by doing and has no manual to know what proper etiquette is. Therefore his behavior is quite innocent without any malicious intent. There is no double entendre here.

    @Facebook the movie:

Yes, it is a very, very bad idea. But it doesn't mean it has to be a bad movie. Aaron Sorkin is one heck of a writer and could really turn it around. Then again, having 20 minutes of Sting in Studio 60 was a really bad idea. What do you do after you spent years at the top? You have to redefine yourself. And this is what Aaron is doing. He is testing new waters. And I just hope the internet gives him the shock of his life. He is a noob in shark waters. And if he does get a shock and realize the tragedy that is Facebook, then he may just write a good story, Woodward style. They got a good writer, so if they get a good director, then they might be able to pull something out of it. But tbh, Microserfs would be far more thrilling any day of the week than the story of Facebook. I'm just really sad Aaron Sorkin isn't being put to good use and doing what he does best. Obama movie starring Will Smith anyone?
  • Agent J
Meh, I only watch G4 for Morgan Webb. Who gives a crap about Devin or this Facebook movie.
  • seanovan
I would much rather see Hunter punched in the taint than see the awful FBTM ever get made, it's true.

But I'm going to see Tropic Thunder tonight so I can't (or ever have had time to) watch ATOS.
  • gah
    LAMEST FEUD EVER.
  • El Chupacabre
.... really? a facebook movie? Let's stop being retarded. That movie should never be made.
  • Icarus
Wow, Devin has some issues to work out. Between this and his calling of Alex at FirstShowing.net a "cocksucker" last week, I think he could use a hug... or a decent lay. Wait, I just watched the episode and saw what he looks like. A hug is much more likely.
  • Agent J
    Meh
  • Andrew
Devin's tirade against "Wall-E" was embarrassing. He obviously loves the sound of his own voice and relishes "intellectualizing" (i.e. prolonged philosophical masturbation).

Oh, and apparently he's SO smart that he can pick up on the underlying themes that the filmmakers themselves were unaware of.

Methinks Devin saw a little too much of himself in Wall-E and took to criticizing it as a way of exercising some demons.

    What a joke...
  • The Playlist
I'm sorry, but the Facebook movie is utterly retarded. Stepping up to defend it is not a good look Devin.
  • Box Office Psychics, with overall traffic and regular readership representing a fraction of what /Film and CHUD pull from say the Republic of Zaire -- on a Sunday, at 2AM -- will nonetheless gladly step into the ring vis-à-vis the Facebook Movie or any other feud-worthy points of contention. Come on, someone feud us – please?

Our take on the Facebook movie here.

  • Wait they already made the movie: http://www.break.com/index/i_can_be_your_facebo...
Btw, Hunter when you click on the bear crammed into the usb port the image links to the old one :o. Is that an easter egg??

  • Hunter Stephenson
    @ Ivan

Not intentionally. Ha, that's awesome. Note to self.
